  1. my wife is x bar girl and im not ashamed to admit it! all the people you meet who say my wife worked in a bank or tesco and so on,  ok yea you take a big chance when you marry an x bar girl. and the odds are stacked, but the rewards are worth it, my wife is smart ,funny, and lovely and loyal, she did what she had to do for her and her family! there is no s/s in issan! you may think they are hard nosed women some are, but most are decent human beings that are just trying to live, how many of us could go to a strange place at a very young age and put up with all the stuff they have had to? i have the greatest respect for them, and lets not forget we created this market not them!!!! so please lets take a step back and have a bit more compashionPosted Image

Respect must be in the eye of the beholder.

I'd rather respect a young Thai-Lady, that makes an effort to support the family "on location" somewhere in the Isaan by working the farm and/or working as a seamstress or store clerk and possibly going to night-school.

If she wants to make an acquaintance with a Farang = every village has an Internet-Cafe in the meantime. That's the kind of Thai-Lady I respect.

What's with all those middle-aged female bar-empolyees, that started a career some 20 years ago in the "entertainment-business" and haven't managed to hit the "jackpot" by landing a Farang?  = The majority ! They present themselves today as overweight, grumpy and disgruntled persons, knowing that they missed the "jackpot".

    A rude awakening.

Relationships of Farangs and bar-ladies can last for many years, as is often-times mentioned here, as long as liberal amounts of money can be withdrawn from the nearest ATM.

Otherwise the Farang may be in for a rude awakening.

Nevermind, I don't want to spoil anyone's party.

    Cheers.

I have to correct you Swissie....... not every village has an internet café...... never been round Kalasin area I take it?

  2. It's those darned people from England; they call ham "bacon." I wish they would learn to speak proper English :)

If you want bacon in an English pub type place or their Thai knockoffs, often it's referred to as stripe-bacon or fatty bacon.

I actually laughed out loud at "proper English" :D:D:D

  3. What i have seen over the years, most of the time the rich and wealthy farang( either old/young/good looking/qasimodo) just succeed to bed a ugly, darkskinned low education thai princess.

farang brainless certainly but with a big heartPosted Image

As someone said, the whole population put you in the same basket... you can do nothing about it!

you consider dark skinned thai girls ugly??
Going by his TV "name" he probably finds all girls ugly.

  5. Why do people jump here so often.

By definition, there should be more jumpers in their home country. Relationships end all the time, so why do so many jump in Thailand?

Most likely because the women they meet in Thailand are far more lovable, more beautiful in every way, than the bitches they break up with in their home countries. This has certainly been my experience. I have never felt suicidal over a break up in Australia or Norway, saddened a couple of times, but mostly otherwise relieved. And never before have I felt so incredibly positive, and I will say, so in love as I have been and am in Thailand.

I was devastated by the one and only break up over here two years ago. But now, a somewhat more "road wise", navigator of Thai sensitivities and social ethics, the money thing, etc etc, I actually feel that the current love is the one that I may have for life. Had I a balcony and a bottle of booze after the first one, it would have been just another TV news item 2 years ago.

But just to be on the safe side, I live in a 2 story building, with only a short drop from the balcony, which the landlord has recently caged to keep out pigeons, also thwarting the spontaneous leap, and I drink tea, coffee, soft drinks and loads of water, with only the occasional single glass of ale on special occasions.

Just had a thought, regarding my "I actually feel that the current love is the one that I may have for life." This of course would still hold true if I were murdered by the in laws when the money runs out.

You sound like a bundle of laughs.

  6. Some Thai wives don't want their western husbands learning Thai -- they want their husbands to be isolated and dependent upon them for even the simple transactions involving money, visas, property titles, etc. One of my pet peeves is watching the older western guys with their Thai wives conducting business at the bank, immigration, utility offices, etc, in Chiang Mai. These places have customer service reps who speak acceptable English, yet when a guy has a Thai wife, they will revert to talking to the wife in Thai. Often the customer service reps are speaking entire paragraphs about complex transactions, which the wife then conducts, often with minimal input from the western guy who is supplying the money. Certainly the poor guy is not getting a word-for-word translation of what he is signing or OKing.

My husband and I have been invited to a few social functions where we are the only western/western couple. All the other guys have the "good fortune" to be married to young, beautiful Thai wives while poor Hubby is stuck with his original western wife. Anyway, I'm in "no woman's land" at these functions -- I have little in common with the Thai wives and the guys don't want to talk with an old, pudgy white woman who reminds them of their first wife. So, I drink beer and hover. I understand the Thai language much better than I speak (and can read and write, too) All the wives talk about are the latest things their husband bought for them for them or their family -- how much money their husbands are spending on them. They try to out-do each other and you can see the jealousy building among them.

Once I shared with some of the guys what their wives were saying and they were shocked at their topics of conversation. I said, "what did you expect them to be saying -- how good you are in bed?"

Now that's the kind of post I wade through puddles of drivel for........brilliant.....!

  9. This foreign ownership issue is a furphy. Anyone with a modicum of economic savvy knows that foreign investment is always good. Land of course is emotive, but in the words of a famous premier of Queensland, "They can't take it home with them". At the time the Japanese were buying huge tracts of Queensland at grossly inflated prices. They did their <deleted> and contributed enormously to the economc development of the state. Playing the xenophobia card is always good politics, but doesn't mean anything.

    Great word.........Furphy......!!!
