  1. Try Thai shop in London. This shop is wellknown to all thai in England and Europe.

    www.tawana.co.uk

    Tel : 44 ( 0 ) 20 7221 6316

You may get all you want :o

  2. He might desire to be a doctor but too lazy to learn too many years to get the license. He's just want to be mr. Dr. Frakenstein :D But his name has 2 meaning in 2 languages. Hellfried....Friedlich to hel_l...in English....To hel_l peacefully ( for his victims)

So sad to hear that hopeless people who wants to be cure believe the advertising in net.

It is the same like people believing in something that cant be proved...and there are many fake dr. or healing dr without licens, or just drink a holy water and you will be healthy and immortal.

It's good that he is in jail now. But hope he wont be a Dr. Volunteer behind the bar :o

  4. I saw this story in the English press a day or two ago. It seems like every horrible story like this has a counter story in the Thai press that does come very close to smearing or blaming the foreigners(by implication or directly). For example, the story about the English teacher who was killed by his girlfriend's male friend was reported in the Thai press as trying to pick up the Thai man's girlfriend.

Does anyone keep up with stories simultaneously through both the Enlish and Thai press? It is amazing how differently the stories are reported.

I have noticed some of this and then I thnk perhaps I should stop reading the news. Thai paper says white guys fault, White papers say Thai guys fault. There's no news here, just yellow jouralism. :o

Thailand has become dangerous and more brutal. I dont like to read thainews because there are only badnews , only kill , brutal murder.

Felt so sorry for the family and for the kid who was raped. This nightmare shall accompany her through lifetime. :D

Farang who has been living in Thailand should not show thais that you are weahthy. You can not trust anybody, not even one of your wife's relation.

Life is not so safe and we have to taking care and dont trust anybody easily.

  5. For 5 pieces of Barguette.

    1 kg Flour

40 g fresh or dried yeast

    3/8 l water ( lauwarm)

    4 tsp salt

Flour and yeast and water mix together. Leave the yeast going for 15-20 mins. Then put salt and then knead. Sorry I can only describe in german. Leave again for 2.30 hours to get a double volume.

Cut into 5 pieces and making a barquette form, cover with piece of clothes to let it a volume again for 15 mins.

Put the temperature 220-250 c. Make a small cut on barguette form and spread with lauwarm water on the bread. Put a small cup with water in the oven and put the bread to bake for about 35-40 mins or if you see the bread has already nice color, then it is finished.

    Bon Appertite !

  6. Totally agree, it's the way they were raise. They wont feel safe if they have no money and spend lots of money for anything. Everything is expensive for them. One Baht is worth for.

As long as they have lots of money and becoming successful in life and all their dreams come true, then they shall spend money.

I once have a Taiwanese friend who is extremely thrifty, everything for her is expensive. Hundred of time talking only expensive, but she herself never bought any dress or pants here, all she got from her sisters from home when she visit Taiwan. She has a good earning job and shall soon become her Phd. She at least earn 10 times more than me, but I prefer pay her a lunch or coffee instead of letting her pay for me once and have a bad dream at home.

Once I invited her for Thai Chrismas Party at my place and everybody should have small present(worth 15 EU.-) to exchange each other ( just for fun ) each can buy anthing for present. She came with a big present box, and a friend who shared the party got her present, opened it and found out that there were some chestnuts inside and a small candle that people get for free for the graveyard. The girl who got this box was surprised but she had lots of fun, she said the present was good for her squiral at home too. :D I , who felt little uneasy for this situation, had to buy some little present once again and gave to the girl later, as a thank you for sharing our party. :D

But Thai wont be thrifty when they cook thai food I think. They shall spend lots of money for expensive thai veggi and invite many pepple to join in.

Normally I am not thrifty, but I always have a bag made by cotton, instead of plastic bag, in my handbag, for shopping. My sisters look :D at me and might think I am really thrifty, but I dont care.

But spending money is quite a happy feeling, just as spending for a nice Trip ,a nice vacation, a nice Ipot, a nice camera, a nice shoes, a good eating once in a while, a nice evening out, or a nice cope of good Italian Icecream..... :o and a nice Belguim chocolate and a nice bunch of white lily and a big basket of Durian.....hummmmm :D and....

  7. What is relative cherry boy ? Sorry I am too naive. :D

I think our Post is good. But it was better 30 years ago. My mister used to send me letters ( within 12 years of our friendship) and none of them were lost, I still keep hundred of his letters till today. Once we had a big flood in Bangkok and the postman couldnt drive his bike to our moobaan...the post office prepared a table on the main road and leave the bunch of letters there , and I also got my letters too. Postman were trustful at that time and worked hard and non of them were reliable.

Every new year I gave them some presents like a bottle of thai whiskey or cigarette.

But nowaday, postmen in tourist areas are not 100% trustful. But in bangkok is still giving good service and seldom stealing or lost. :o:D

  8. xbusman: Toiletries, especially deoderant and razors, are very expensive here. I dont think the Thais need or use either.

    LOL

I'll tell ya sometimes it seems like living in Thailand is like living in a communist country. The selection of consumer products available for purchase here in Thailand is pretty bad/poor.

I dont think that living in Thailand is like living in a communist country. It is only you cant find things because you are living on very far outskirt of Bangkok or bigger town. There are also many good thai products selling abroad with English name too. :D:o

  10. I should have wore yellow shirt if I would have stayed in Thailand on that day. This same color shirts parade became popular just recently as I could remember. One time I visited Bangkok and it was Chinese New Year or Songkran day, I cant remember now, and my sister said today people shall wear RED COLOR, I didnt wear because first I have no red and never wore red, second, I shall do if I feel like to do, but wont do if somebody force me to. But I like this feeling that people join the same activity to wear the same color. It's like we love the same favarite football team , green, orange or red or yellow. Or Carveval , we do the same funny thing. Dont think too serious.

It is for the business too ( for the textile branches ) and looks good on television or news. We all like to have good image, even Bush needed good image before he was on TV, everywhere should be perfected, background, the flag, the loacation for interview etc....

Aren't we copy you ? Put the Yellow Ribbon round the old oak tree ? To show how much we love ?

We do love to copy good things from other places too. :o

I do love our King and happy to see the yellow (love) color round the good old Bangkok streets on our news here yesterday :D He is always in our heart and wishing him good health and long life.

  11. :D

Great post Indo-Siam. Belfastboy and Monochaser should inform more details about southeast asia and Thailand. Give your brian little broaded perspective before asking WHY...WHY...WHY...

We are Thai, and we shall doing in Thai Way. Actually we dont need to be fluently in English, we have our own language. We just do it to please you. Why England dont speak Thai or Chinese or Vietnamese ?

OK, if you know thai only by hot chicks, that is your point of view. People can read you too , how many points of view you have. One never satisfy whatever doing.

Some likes to critizise ONLY but doing nothing. Giving us the hints how to develope ? Giving us the intelligent hints how to run FAST after the first world. Maybe we shall try to do it eventhough in a slow speed of time.

But anyway, I still love Thailand, and being proud to be Thai. :D

    You cant eat pride. :D

Why is everyone taking this so personally? If something is wrong the first step to fixing it is accepting it.

As for the comment in red thats the most ingnorant thing Ive read in this thread.

That attitude is why China, Vietnam and others will leave Thailand in the dust.

You sanuk the day away, because somewhere theres a vietnamese guy or a chinese girl busting his or her ass to make something for THEMSELVES, not US.

You need to stop looking at ENGLISH as an intrusive , destroyer of culture and embrace it as a way to communicate to the WORLD. (ie. not just england or USA) One problem I see with Thais and their false sense of pride is that 98% of THAIS have NEVER been to another country.

You remind me of the guy who said "University too expensive" when discussing the fact that he had 20 years to save for his childs education. He too accepts that "this is the way it is, the THAI way".

The thing is for a familly to break the cycle of "poverty" or medicore existance someone in that familly has to take a stand and SACRIFICE. This is not unique to Thailand but luckily for a lot of people in my generation our Grandfathers busted ass and sent their kids off to university.

There is a catch 22 to this, just how many generations can this sacrafice paid benefit the following generations. It seems that eventually this leads to spoiled and unmotivated individuals.....bah I wont go on, its probably a whole different topic for another thread.

nuff said by me on this thread, hope it all works out for everyone.

On your red paragraph was my irony. The whole post was also irony to the one who always asking..why why...

I know exactly that language is important for us nowaday and for the new generation too. That is why we hire more efficiant Teachers , narrative teachers from overseas to improve our children.

We are tying hard to improve. :o

  12. We are Thai, and we shall doing in Thai Way. Actually we dont need to be fluently in English, we have our own language. We just do it to please you. Why England dont speak Thai or Chinese or Vietnamese ?

Ah, but my Thai friend, the most successful export and international businesses based in the U.K. (or any other western country) DO speak Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese!

As an expat, I love Thailand too, and I believe most of these comments are meant at helping to preserve Thailand's future economic security--something we all want. As a professor in one of your universities, I see first-hand that Thailand is seriously behind the international standard for English (the world language of international business) and quality education. I'm doing my part to try to reverse that trend.

It's all in a good spirit, and hope that you receive it that way!

Will you wait another 10 years time, at that time, our English Education might be improved. Nowaday there are lots of English Teachers from oversea trying to help us. We shall wait and see whether our English quality as acceptable as international standard. English language is so difficult for us. Really.

  13. Haven't gotten any good sunset shots in Thailand yet, unless there are some in a box of negatives and prints that I cannot find right now...

Here is one of my all time favorites. It is descending to a place called Trail Camp that is at about 12,000 foot elevation, so probably taken from around 12,700 feet I would guess. This is looking east at sunset on the eastern slope of Mt. Whitney in CA. So, all the color is back-scattered light, and the pink/blue boundary you see is the shadow of the mountain range behind me, painted into the sky far above the dark blue mountain range in the far distance.

(apologies if this attachment didn't work... i've never tried to post a photo before)

Very nice pix, autonomous_unit. The beautiful of nature never disappointed us. More pixs pls.

  14. ROTFLMAO -

This thread contains some of the most ignorant statements I have ever seen on Thaivisa.

Laos ahead of Thailand? What are you smoking? More Thais speak English than the entire population of Laos. Laos is a landlocked country with only three industry sectors: mining, hydroelectric power genertion, and garment manufacturing. There is nothing else.

Cambodia? 80% of the government officials in Camboia never even attended university - many never even graduated from high school (not their fault - most educated persons were slaughtered back in "Year Zero"). Chonburi provine has more paved roads than all of Cambodia.

Vietnam and Laos (alomng with China, North Korea, and Cuba)are still Communist Countries. You still have to join the Communist Party to be a first-class citizen.

Try talking to Westerners who hve run busineses in Vietnam - they will tell you horror strories about the beuracracy that make Thailand look like a model of efficiency.

Singapore - well, its certainly well-educated and efficient. But - before you start trumpetting Singapore, you best check out a few things. Like the certificate of Entitlement rules for buying a car, or the waiting list for a new flt from the Housing Developmnt Board (imagine marrying your sweetheart in 2006, and signing up for your own apartment - which will becme available in 2013). Hey - but you can always drink and dance until dawn! Thaland is swarming with Singaporean start-up companies. Wh? One reason is that all Singporean men must serves their entire adult life in the military or military active reserves - and one of the few ways to escape annual service is to be posted to work outside Singapore.

Malaysia is a pretty good place. I just don't lke living in a collection of sultanates, each headed by a Muslim Sultan. With world trends going the way they are, I cant imagne ever wanting to put down roots, unless I converted to Islam. And pigs will fly befre that ever happens.

Western and Japanese investment has always been here. Now, Indian, and Chinese, and Middle Eastern investment is STREAMING in. You needn't shed any tears about how Thailand's foreign direct investment outlook is falling apart.

The main people who are singing the blues around Thailand are the sex tourists, and the refugees from socialized Western economies that tax the everloving daylights out of ther hard-working citizens, to subsidize unassimilated masses of hostile immigrants.

We're also immigrants in Thailand - and way too many of us are "unassimilated." Let's not also be hostile.

    Cheers!

    Steve

  16. Baby Wipes (you know, those moist little towelettes that come 20 or so to a package, usually used to wipe a baby's bum on the go?).

    Reasons:

    1) The only place you find toilet paper in Thailand is on restaurant tables. Never in a restroom. Utilizing Baby Wipes will give you time to get used to the spray squirter thingy installed next to most toilets here. Sometimes the little spray gadget is powerful enough to de-bark trees, let alone shoot directly from your arse to the top of your head (in some cases, the ceiling). Also, after your bum is soaking wet, you have the choice of pulling your pants back up (soaking them too), or bringing Baby Wipes to the rescue.

    2) You'll need the baby wipes until the diarrhoea tablets kick in.

    3) You'll go through a package or two of these little gems until you learn how to conquer the infamous Asian squat toilet. Meanwhile, you'll be cleaning sh*t outta your shoes, off the back of your legs, etc.

    4) In this hot & humid climate (which will hit you like a ton of bricks as soon as you step out of Don Muang Airport), a baby wipe is the most refreshing thing you can do for your unclimatized, sweaty face between showers.

    5) When your driver stops at a roadside fruit vendor, buys you a bag of luscious fruit, you peel a few rambuttan or super juicy oranges, and your face/hands/lap are now soaked in sugary, sticky fluid, who ya gonna call? Baby Wipes!

When my relatives back in the home country ask me what they can send me each Birthday and Christmas, my needs are simple and consistent: B.W.

I should buy stock in the freakin' company...

Total agree with you. Even I am a thai, I also bring some babywipes, easy to use to wash your hands and feet or when diarrhea. Humid climate is sometimes nasty too. For the treatment of bacterial diarrhea, dysentery, enteritis and gastro-intestinal infections use * Disento* good and you can buy any drugstore in Thailand. The green pill, take 1-2 each 4-6 hours. In Thai * Yaa Gae Tong Sia Disento......ยาแก้ท้องเสีย เป็นบิด ท้องร่วง ไดเซนโต....

Good suncream ( in Thailand is more expensive ), mp3 player***, your favarite books, good shoes.

The climate shall make you sick at the first days. Dont walk along dirty water when it is flood. If you cant avoid, then clean with soap ( Detol ). Ok, your antibody shall be stronger as long as you stay longer.

Have a safe flight. Welcome to Thailand, land of Angel or hel_l :o of cute mosquitoes.

  17. The easiest way that I used to do is :

For reading thai and thai font : *Right mouse* click on anywhere on your desktop then click *Encoding to Thai Window* then your Boss can easily read thai.

For setting your keyborad to Eng-Thai-or French or German or other languages...( I am using 3 languages too )

......Click Start....click Setting.....looking for *Keyboard*......Click at *Language* then

.......click *Option....choosing your Thai -English * then Click *Add*

.......Click ( mark) in the small box to activate your language on the screen ..easy to click when you want to type TH......click TH.....Eng....when you want to type English ) click OK.

Finish......now you can type and change languages you want.
