  1. I am looking for reliable, regular squash partner/s. I am about low intermediate level but would like to get better and play more often.

I live in Sukhumvit 101 and have found a court near Prompong BTS for 400 baht a day including gym and swimming pool.

Or if anyone knows anywhere cheaper then I'm all ears...

If you fancy a game drop me a line on here or ring/txt me on 0811 387 639

  2. As an adjunct: I am watching a rerun of Greece vs Russia with English commentary. There is a button on the remote that switches between languages on one or two channels, which is useful. smile.png

  3. I went back to BIG C where i bought the TV and they were running a promotion on dishes etc. The salesperson was able to ring the company in Bangkok and after chatting to them they offered to come and fit a dish on my balcony last night for 2500baht! No one turned up last night and they weren't answering their phone, so I was fairly pissed off, but as I had watched England beat Sweden! the night before I was asleep by ten so didn't know if I had missed them.

Anyway, she rang this morning and said they were on their way over with the dish. So after most of the day fitting it (they made a hole with a screwdriver above the patio door, which I will have to fill in before I leave the apartment or will get fined. The pole is attached to my balcony rail and the small, bright orange dish is attached to the pole. They even offered to spray it another colour, and I am thinking about that.

Of the 400 channels on GMM, only one, Nat Geo Adventure, seems to be in English, although have seen one or two others with Eng subtitles. The quality of the picture is very low/blocky on a widescreen TV. So I'm not sure the 'free' sat box was worth all the effort/money, but still glad I did it..

  4. I only know I live in a complex with like 6, 9 story buildings and those with dishes have their cables running up to the roof from their balcony. Take a look on your roof to see if there are dishes up there. My place is still wired from when they had a dish and they snake in the cable in the same hole the a/c uses.

I txted the guy who spoke English in the shop here in NP but he hasn't replied. I don't think they would allow the cables as they would need to be fixed to the wall. The lady in the office downstairs has a GMM box so they do have the dish on the roof.. The other people in the building, including me, get a type of basic satellite TV including the Thai channels, Lotus Macau film channel and NHK and DW TV via a socket in the room.

  5. I purchased a satellite dish stand last week from Satellite Tv Thailand in Bangkok they ship cash on delivery anywhere in Thailand .

The order proccess was very simple i just ordered online and select COD the goods was ship and i had to goto my local post office to pay and collect the stand . The stand is very strong and stable i would advise this to anyone who is in your position just google satellitetvthailand

I hope that helps you just order online they ship same day EMS so you get in 2 days normally !

Thanks for that! I have txted them and will ring them Monday if no reply

  6. I would have thought if that was possible they would have done that when they turned up this morning... But my lack of Thai and the lack of English around here makes everything difficult to explain... So who knows if that was possible?

Why not run a cable up to the roof?

  7. I bought a new TV a few days ago from Big C in Nakhon Pathom, where I live. With the TV came a free GMMZ Smart digital satellite receiver.

However, I have been unable to hook this up to a satellite dish. Big C were no help, so I asked in a shop in town and arranged for them to fit a dish this morning. They arrived, but could not fit it as my apartment block owner will not allow them to drill the walls. The guy in the shop suggested another supplier for a satellite dish with a stand, but they couldn't help either. He suggested I had to buy a dish with stand in Bangkok.

So, does anyone know where I can get a satellite dish with stand that I can get in the van back to Nakhon Pathom or get delivered? Or a company that can come and set one up here in Nakhon Pathom without drilling the walls? I live on a south facing wall and have chromed balcony rail which I wouldn't have thought would be that difficult to attach to.

    Any help appreciated

  8. Hi mooro

I would like to play squash

Although I haven't played much lately I do enjoy a game and would like to play regularly if possible. I live in Nakhon Pathom but am on holiday from the university where I work now. It takes about 1 hour to get to Central Pinklao and then a taxi from there, or would it be better to taxi it to skytrain?

I do not have a squash racquet, is it possible to buy one at reasonable cost in Bangkok?

  9. Had a good look round near the hospital today for a house with my American friend who has managed to rent a house (but he has a Thai girlfriend which makes life easier) but although there were many empty looking houses there were no for rent signs. Houses in Nakhon Pathom are rarer than elephant eggs. I also asked in an apartment block on Ratchamanka rd called Baan Thai as suggested by an earlier poster whether they had a swimming pool and gym. The girl said yes, yes, but then the boss spoke up and told me to go look at a different place with an unmemorable Thai name, but I couldn't find it. Will have to do a bit more research..

  10. How bout time for a get together in Samphran? The Guitar Bar near the junction, everyone seems to know it, say Friday? Sorry can't help with the apt though.

    Oz

Gonna struggle to get to Samphran on my knackered old bike but might be able to organise some kind of taxi. I thought you said you were leaving the area last time we met..

  11. An occasional beer sounds great timbovril! nice name btw. Getting a bit old for rugby but could give it a go I suppose. A bit of frisbee, table-tennis or badminton might be possible.. Used to play squash in UK but that might be a bit harder to find here.

I'm currently living just outside NK near Bosco with a buddy. We're always keen for a beer and occasionally go kick a rugby ball around! Will keep your number on hand, we are only 5 mins out! Will also keep an ear to the ground!

  12. i don't know of any houses for rent.. i think you will just have to get on a bike and ride around until you see a sign..

As for apartments with pools etc. i think the apartments near the market on Ratchamanka rd have gym and swimming pool.

ALSO there is an apartment on the hospital rd that has both.. but thats about 10-15 min bike ride.

i'm in NK 4 times a week if i see anything i will let you know.

    regards Allan

Thanks Allan. My phone number is: zero 8 one one 3 eight 7 Hok sam 9.

Have tried riding around but I don't read Thai and it seems hard to recognise the signs. Will try working on it...

Am also looking for Thai lessons

  13. I have been living in a condo in Amphoe Muang Nakhon Pathom near Silpakorn University, where I work. It is very hot and the choice of TV and internet are not mine. Therefore I would like to rent a house. Does anyone know of any houses for rent in Nakhon Pathom? I pay 4000 baht a month plus bills at the minute but would go to 6000 baht or maybe a little more for somewhere good.

Also hardly anyone speaks English in my apartment block so once I leave work I often don't speak to anyone til the next class. So a better apartment would be another alternative if anyone knows of an apartment block within a motorbike drive of Silpakorn Uni where there is a gym or swimming pool or place where people socialise, then do let me know...

Also always looking for anyone living in Nakhonpathom who would like to play sport or have a beer or two now and again..

  14. Hi guys

I am teaching in Nakhon Pathom at Silpakorn and have been having the same problem. Not found anyone to hang out with and the bars seem pretty dead. So if anyone fancies a beer do drop me a line. Off back to UK for a couple of weeks tomorrow (20/1/2012) but any time after that I will be looking to hang out.

I looked up Samphran and it is not that far from Mueang Nakhon Pathom.
