  1. Errr being legal to drive.

    Hint of sarcasm there mate????

I've been stopped plenty of times and produced my UK licence with no problems whatsoever.

Sent from my Nexus 4 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I was stopped at road check in Chiang Rai , Showed them UK license , not good enough either , Thai , or international req`d. 300 b fine .

  2. from the extended article at Khaosod: Songsermsungrueng Tour said it has provided help and accommodation for the tourists who were affected by the incident, and would provide transport to deliver the tourists to their destination the day after.

Chances are, the Tour heads are going to pay absolute minimum - they can get away with.

Added note: At Mae Sai, which is Thailand's northernmost town, there is a big white hotel (I don't know its name) where giant tour buses pull up to the front. I watch fascinated while the tops of the buses look to have as little as 1 inch clearance from the concrete beam above. They're going slow, but it's an accident waiting to happen.

Added note 2: The last 2 times I did a r-trips on VIP buses in northern Thailand, I buckled up. Guess how many others used their seat belts (passengers and drivers)? Yup: none.

The green bus company now run mini-buses from Mai sai to Chiang Sen & Chiang Rai most of them do not have seat-belts fitted .And I might add these buses go very very quick .

  3. Condolences to the family.

The fittest of people can suddenly have a heart attack whilst exercising. I had a friend who was extremely fit and suffered cardiac arrest whilst jogging. He had similar facial injuries as a result of hitting the ground. He was 37 yrs old.

I have always exercised daily 10 kms per day and have been told by my doctor to cut back and not push my body to hard. Now I do around 5 kms per day.

3 cheers for chooka hip hip .......

  4. To rely on any outside help here is a foolish thing. To not have a military or police-government connected family here is dangerous. To put oneself into compromising conditions is reckless! To have no backup plan or phone # of trusted people is naive!

`Joe` The back-up plan is the best idea,ie whilst i was in Chiang Mai a couple of years ago, i was introduced

to a guy who, for b2000 per year you could phone him if you had any trouble , traffic , police . Unfortunately

i lost his contact details. If anyone in Chiang Mai knows someone who does this i would appreciate if they could let me have their contact details.

  5. “It was all captured on a CCTV camera and I have got the option to press charges,” he says, “but retribution does not thrill me. I just want to warn others.”

I wouldn't worry about retribution, but spending several days in a police station pressing charges, knowing all the time that at best the attackers will get a 500 baht fine, would deter me too.

Since the tuk tuk mafia is running that town, and other towns, the only thing to do is stay away from them at all times. Just like one would stay away from any organised crime gang. And no, it is not just a few bad apples, virtually every tuk tuk driver in the country is a scumbag!

Every tuk tuk driver in the country are certainly not scumbags. Here in Chiang Saen they are a great bunch

of guys i sit & talk to them whilst waiting for my wife at the market. Its only were organised crime prevails.

  6. Truevision pulled another stunt this morning, changed a load of

channel numbers & moved programs from gold to platinum without

any warning . Just seen the post about Ubc losing the rights to

show prem. league next season. So thats it i guess. If anyone

can offer alternate viewing advice would appreciate. Truevision

has gone right down the pan in the last few months , No Broadwalk

Empire , Just showing old Downton Abbey series . Not worth the

    1500+ per month

  7. About 7 years ago i met a young guy in his

20`s ,he had met a thai girl (his first girlfriend).

She was a dog, She convinced him to buy a

bar. He was spending his mothers money on

this.I tried to put him wise to the disaster, that

was sure to follow . but he was infatuated with

this girl .I had to leave LOS to return to work

in Brunei , never met this lad again . When

i read posts like this one i wonder how he went

    on.

  8. Skimming is becoming more and more prevalent - what are the banks doing to ensure their ATM's are skim-free?

Also, the news report shows 3 people and lists 3 names - but then it switches to 4 and then back to 3...who edits these articles?

I have always wondered WHY the banks can't have an OTP (one time password) sent via SMS for every ATM transaction, just like they do for internet banking transactions.

The "skimmer" would also have to steal your phone - highly unlikely.

Surely this would be easy to implement and would make skimming a thing of the past, virtually overnight.

BKK bank do this for internet banking its a great idea. But i hope they throw away the key

for these scum, be very surprised if Eastern Europeans are not involved.

  9. How did he get the visa to enter Thailand and a job in the first place????

Any monkey can get a visa to enter Thailand and any other country - when was the last time you were checked for a criminal record?

When I applied for my retirement visa.

When i put my retirement application package to-gether i went to the trouble getting a criminal record check.

Complete waste of time, never asked for it in Thailand, same as medical clearance check. All they were

concerned about was , i had enough money in my Thai account.
