  1. Cheap beer ? Thai or Foreign .?..Anyway all stores are very similar in price i find .I drink Chang ,and the cheapest shop near me ( mum and pop style ) sell a large bottle for B50 ,compared to B54 at 7/11 . You may make larger savings by buying beer by the box at Makro .Their wine is also a few Baht cheaper than most .( especially if you buy a 3 or 5 lt box ) .

  2. Oh and no motorhomes will be allowed to enter at all. No motorcycles either. Only cars and pickup trucks weighing no more than 3.5 tons GVM.

    Tom,

    are you sure about that?

Last year i was in Sonkhla and there was a French family driving around with a, right hand driven, Unimog mobilhome look al like. A big square box on wheels. This was certain a truck and weighted over 3;5 ton with no Thai plate.

That was last year ,this is now .

  3. Do not fix the problem. Just bury your head in the sand with unworkable legislation. How can any tourist stay in just one province? Why apply 30 days in advance? These are not holiday conditions they are unworkable ridiculous restrictions on people attempting to come here for a holiday. These people are retarded. This is a kindergarten country.

Why not do the same as any other country? Ohhhh no this is Thailand!

These rules were brought in because of the erratic style driving of many Chinese .Also China makes it almost impossible for a Thai to drive /take his car (easier on a motorcycle but still a lot of paperwork ) into China .Before people say Chinese can not be worse than Thai drivers ,a friend who has lived in China says that they are a lot worse .Many cars in China driving around with multiple dents on the bodywork he says .

  4. I have experienced dozens of funerals over the years and costs have been from zero baht to 1 million baht, and varying costs in between.

The most common are in the range of 150 to 200k baht. Many of these funerals are financed by insurance from the BAAC. Funeral insurance is not expensive and many families target 200k.

I have my own funeral insurance with the BAAC, the yearly fee being only 750 baht for 200,000 baht coverage.

    Good idea .

  5. Semi related side story.

My husband worked in maintenance at what was the biggest bakery in the southern hemisphere (very expensive houses and apartments now). One evening, we're watching the news and here's this story about how a woman had just stopped her little one from chomping into a meat pie or donut or something with this big piece of metal in it. Mr K called BS immediately; he said if it had been a piece of glass, yeah, maybe (very unlikely but remotely possible). This was the day I learned that every single item of food went through a metal detector before going out of the door.

(The woman later admitted that this huge shaving of metal wasn't inside the food at all - that wasn't on the evening news of course. In my opinion, she should have been prosecuted for attempted blackmail, she admitted doing it for the money).

You'd think that all except the very, very smallest food manufacturers would have one set up, particularly somewhere using industrial mixers and bread slicing machines.

I'm not a fan of social media, I'm not in any of the 'clubs' but I joined Twitter for no other reason than to shame SriLankan Airlines into answering my emails - it wasn't even over something very important, it just annoyed me that their customer service wouldn't reply, despite getting auto responses saying within 24 hours. Got one pretty quickly, I can tell you, but I had to go back to Twitter and make another post because they didn't answer a related follow up question (after another 3 emails went unanswered). I should have found the CEO's direct email or other social media account but I couldn't be bothered. Public shaming, therefore social media, does have it's place in society (I don't class ThaiVisa as social media, they're an old school forum.)

I had a problem with Ethiad Airlines .Their call center in Abudabi is useless .When i contacted them through their Facebook page though ,things got sorted quickly .

  6. How would one explain to Thai immigration when renewing the retirement extension, etc?

Ah haarr shipmates, shiver me timbers, I come ere to renew me retirement extension. Or a short, hello sailor may suffice.

I will explain nothing, I will just show my Elite card. I do not speak to officials anywhere, they are not my friend, they are here to do the job they are paid for.

Wish i was in that Elite Club .I feel Elite but my wallet and Bank account do not .

  7. Maybe a business opportunity to set up a cheat cut price service without the trimmings for Farangs with small money left .I have asked my wife to cut out all the <deleted> and just cremate me . ;-)

  8. Pattaya Park, that's the place where little kids get sucked into the pool filters and die. No wonder they are so cheap in price to attend.

That was about 8 years ago .I am sure it has been fixed by now .Since then i have not heard of any other problems .

About 3-4 years ago i would say.

Time flys quicker than we think .I am up in Chiang Mai from Pattaya /Jomtien 6 years now and i know it happened before then .

  9. >>Yes, Thai are smart sometimes, they know that it's stupid to use a ceiling fan to blow hot air down when it should stay up and leave somewhere.<<

Yes ,i put up a ceiling fan at great expense and it was useless .My wall mounted remote control fans are great though ,to the point that i dont use a/c .If they do fail (Hatari brand going a few years now ) they are dead easy to dismount for repair .

  10. Well done to him. Though I have no idea how much he won, one hopes it is enough for him to get out of the factory and secure a future for himself and his family, though I understood those 'jackpots' were reserved for pals of Yingluck?

He is keeping his job ,for now at least .>>He told reporters that he will pay his debts off and build his house with the money, but insisted he would still work at the factory.<<

  11. No news really....an American died in his condo........the smell told the story....been dead a week they think

Just as i thought .Do you know his name ? Its just that i knew an old American living there ,but there is probably many of them .

From The Nation newspaper: Perry Boomershine 66 yo

No not the guy i knew then ,but around the same age .
