I'm confused by their figures, another story says 138 billion to be spent over the holiday - but 34 billion is on foreign travel. So this story - or the other - must be 20 billion baht out somewhere. Not exactly a small number

I guess the 71,000 think that the house will be like a car that you can use, stop paying for and take back in two months

So, 30% of its budget previously went on bribes ? Where are the charges and claiming back of the money ?

Commissioner Phukphong said that it is expected that a large number of holiday revelers will make their way back to their home towns and to holiday destinations of choice, leading to the possibility of an increase in accidents.
I'm guessing 'possibility' has a different translation here

Said this before, but my wife is a kindergarten teacher, well educated at high universities here in Thailand - never heard of 9/11 !! (and topically once asked me is father Christmas was real person each year in the UK). So, huge lack of historical education

Bt11 billion is expected to be spent on parties, Bt9.61 billion on merit making, Bt17.43 billion purchasing consumer products, Bt1.16 billion on luxury products, Bt60.44 billion on domestic travel and Bt35.84 billion on overseas trips.
So, let me get this straight - I'm not an Einstein mathematician - about the same money is going to spent by Thais running off abroad than on New year parties, merit making and consumer goods this holiday season ? That to me does not spell well for the Thai economy !

Sheds light on 1000 people losing their jobs yesterday. Thailand exports will be in the doldrums for years after this continuous silly high baht when competitors seize all the future orders

One positive factor is the government’s “Eat, Shop, Spend” scheme, in which people who have registered and spend money on eating, shopping or travelling can get a certain amount of money back.
