  1. It's not surprising that Thaivisa.com members would agree with the anti-progressive, brain-dead opinions of Thais on this subject...disregard for human life and lack of any sort of compassion are characteristics both of many Thais and the racist right-wing farang cabal which makes up much of the membership here. Yaaaawwwwwn.

Hold It right there,if a rapist attacks a woman his take away her right to go about her business unmolested. If a murder takes the life of a member of my family he takes their right to life.If you take away someones rights you must forfeit your own.

  2. The hate of the rich never stops for you guys at your stonetables outside 7-eleven.sad.png As some of the posters above are longstayers here, they should be well aware of this is the way doing things in Thailand, whether you are rich of poor. Go to your local policestation every day of the week, and you will see many accidents being settled by paying a few thousend bath to the victims. And the perpetrator and the victim leaving the copshop together, big wais and smiles all around, because most importantly, noone lost face.

Btw I think, that 3M baht is very generous for an unmarried cop with no kids, meaning the money will go to his aging parents, securing them some good last days. The Thai way, for better or worse!wai.gif

Sick words. No matter the way to do things.

So you accept that no change in corruption is welcome, and you just want to get on with the way things have been for centuries?

Do you have no sense of requiring, and giving examples, of the way things are and should be, with reference to 'democracy'?

3M is very generous from one of the richest families in Thailand?

I think you should go to 7/11, have another chilled drink, and comment again.... ? Or is loss of face more important to you than killing and paying off the poorer for it? sad.png

    -mel.

Any change in corruption here would be most welcome but you can bump your gums till the cows come home IT AIN"T GONNA HAPPEN
  3. My wife changed her surname to mine at her amphur, the district office for her area. Took along all her own documents plus Thai translation of our marriage certificate and I went with her with my passport.

Thanks for the Quick reply.I"ve been told to get the translation stamped by by British Embassy and then the relevant Thai Ministry, then take it to my local office.
  4. My wife (Thai) and I were married in the U.K. and are now living in Thailand.I would like the wife to take my surname as it will be easier for her to get my pensions from the U.K. after my death.Do I have to go to Bangkok or can this be done in my local area.Thanks.

  5. Would the tough line being shown if the man killed had been a member of the public and not a Policeman?

I hope that justice is done in this case. I'm sure all of all of Thailand is watching and waiting

Probably not but the "tough line" has more to do with media exposure because of the family involved.

Without the famous family and a police victim, this would be just another of the many road accidents.

Cheque book justice would still be done but not in the media spotlight.

I don"t think the whole of Thailand are watching and waiting.I"ll bet 90% of Thailand don"t give a $hit what happens, because they already know the outcome.

  6. Much of the physical activity of village life is of the variety that breaks you down, rather than builds you up. It is hard but not in a healthy way. It is not aerobic and does not strengthen your heart, it is just dirty, hot and sweaty. Bending over in a rice field all day is not going to make you healthier or live longer.

Or finishing work and drinking a litre of Lao Khao, then driving home
  7. I'm afraid you might be the only farang in Phrae, I visited once!

    Nice around there though.....

You're not the only Farang in Phrae. But I and the other one I know both have DSL from TOT. It seems to be the best option

I"m in Phrae that works for me.
  8. I've never lived upcountry, so I can't profess to be knowledgeable on the drinking habits of Pheu Thai's main constituency....

But I'm curious: what portion of the distilled liquor consumed by those folks is likely the locally (village) made rot gut that presumably escapes all taxation vs. what portion is actually the commercial and taxed stuff purchased through stores???

    Simple answer NONE.
