  1. Shotgun training works wonders. Feel like Edwardcissorhands, cutting, splitting and slicing away at audio and videos. lol

"Videoredo" has a handy synch function as well as an editing function. You can download a trial version which should do the trick. For synch you will have to estimate by how much the audio is out of synch. For other video programs try www.videohelp.com

  2. If I recall correctly wasnt his wife apprehended at the Cambodian border and then realeased....I think mid last year?

Yes they posted bail, and she went gone like the wind

    29 January 2009

Police on Thursday, 29th January 2009 arrested the mastermind of the attempted murder of a US national in Hua Hin last year when she was about to escape to the neighbouring Cambodia.

Junpen Yungyu, 48, wife of a foreigner developing a major housing estate in Hua Hin, was arrested at

Aranyaprathet district by immigration police for ordering the murder of Donald Whiting, whose wife is

deputy rector of Stamford International University, according to assistant police chief Aswin Kwanmuang.

The arrest came only a week after Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva ordered police to speed up the case.

On Tuesday, police apprehended three suspects they said were involved in the attempted murder of Mr

Whiting in the resort district in prachuap Khiri Khan. The three confessed to attempted murder, and one

said he was hired for 200,000 baht to kill the American by Mrs Junpen.

Mr Whiting had reportedly criticised the developer over the construction of his house before the local

media. He was shot soon after lodging a complaint with local agencies.

He was shot twice in front of his house on the night of October 24th 2008.

  3. Avoid applying for a visa on a Monday which is extremely busy.

Take the Bangkok subway to Rama 9 and walk north to the chinese embassy.

The visa application form can be obtained from the man on the desk at the entrance on the first floor.

Take a queue ticket, complete the form and hand in form and passport when your number is called.

You pay for the visa when you return to the embassy after three days.

The price of visas is displayed on the right hand side of the room.

When picking up visa, go to extreme left hand side counter and pay.

Collect your passport frpm the next counter.

A multiple entry visa to china lasts for six months.

    Enjoy your trip

  4. assuming your in thailand:

For Thai pp you need Thai birth cert and both parents need to attend the passport office (MFA) - 1000 baht.

Sorry, the MFA is in Bangna - Bangkok

Yes i am in Chonburi. Thanks for that info.

Do you have any info regarding the UK passport?

A simple search for the British Embassy Bangkok website will produce the answers you require. The Embassy is situated in Wireless Road, Bangkok and opens at 0800 hours mondays to fridays. Take a bus from Chonburi to Ekami and then the skytrain to Ploenchit. The embassy is a few minutes walk from that skytrain station.

  5. Hi,

lm planning on travelling to Shenzhen China from Bangkok at the end of September for buisness, could anyone tell me if visas are obtainable at the Chinese embassy in Bangkok or do l need to apply in the UK.

    Many Thanks Mark

The Chinese Embassy Bangkok is a five minute walk from Rama 9 subway station. Best not to attend on a Monday as very busy. A six month multiple entry visa for China costs Baht 2,200 and can be had in three days. The 0830 hours rush is best avoided. Arrive at 0930 hours, pick up a queue ticket and you can be in and out in five to ten minutes provided you do not attend on a Monday. USA and Thai citizens are charged twice that amount for the same visa. A visa form can be downloaded from the web. You pay when you pick up visa - go to window number one to pay and window number two to pick up. Visa charges are displayed on the right hand wall when you walk in.

  6. You might like to check out www.videohelp.com and search the "Tools" section for a selection of burners.

    Try uninstalling and reinstalling Nero.

I generally use version 6.0.13 of Nero with no problems whatsoever. Easily found in Panthip.

Your problem may be due to defective external drive. Try using the drive on another computer.

Nero is probably the most popular burning program and your problem is likely to be due to a corrupted installation of the software rather than the program itself.

  7. Hi

My thai gf is applying for a tourist visa to visit me in UK and I just had a few questions:

    1. I'm sponsoring her visit and paying all the costs. I've provided all the recommended info on my finances, but is there any need to also provide her bank passbook? The only reason I can think they might need it is to check she has cash in her bank when she applies (I heard even if I'm paying for everything they like to see over 50k baht in the applicant's account for some reason). Her salary is paid in cash so doesn't ever hit her account, but she has wage slips to evidence her salary. If we do need to include her bank statements can we just give them the latest one showing over 50k or will they still want 6 months?

    2. I know reason for return is crucial. She's had a job in a well known up-market spa chain since Jan. I'm trying to get her boss to sign a letter confirming she has the job, her salary and 1 month holiday authorisation but he's being awkward as he doesn't seem to understand he won't be making his whole company responsible/liable for her if she didn't come back in time. Assuming we do get the letter, do you reckon that is sufficient reason to return? - she also has family in Thai but I heard they don't attach much weight to that. One other thing is she has worked in another Asian country for a bit under a work permit and came back within the deadline so that shows she has followed immigration rules in the past. We have tonnes of proof of over 6 months relationship but guess that's not relevant for reason to return. She has a small plot of land her Dad bought her but the paperwork won't be sorted by the land registry for at least a number of months, so no way of proving it - is it even worth mentioning the land if no proof? And if we don't get the letter from her employer are we screwed on reason for return and not even worth bothering to apply for a visa?

    3. Last question! I know the tourist visa is automatically a 6 months multiple entry. She's stating the hol is for 1 month as that our plan. In theory though once she gets the visa can she literally just come and go as she pleases any time from the date the visa is valid from, up until 6 months? Also does she have to fly to the UK on the actual date the visa starts from or can she just fly here on any day after it starts?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

My experience of obtaining a UK tourist visa for a Thai friend is as follows:

    1. Every statement that is made in the visa application form must be backed up by original evidence.

    2. You should write a letter to the British Embassy stating that you will pay all the costs, define those costs and enclose an original copy of your bank statement. The letter should also state where and how you met the lady.

    3. She can arrive in the UK anytime during the validity of the visa

    4. She should provide a copy of her savings account together with the original savings account book.

    5. If she has land, she should provide a copy of the land certificate and the original certificate. If she hasn't yet got the certificate, a little tea money will normally speed up the process.

    6. Attach details of what she intends to do in the Uk - a statement just saying she is to meet you doesn't count for much.

    7. She should provide full details of her employment and salary irrespective of non cooperation of the employer and explain the position taken by the employer if salary slips and a letter are not forthcoming.

    8. Attach an utilities bill to your letter to add support as to your home address.

    9. The current visa application form doesn't provide much space for information and it is best to provide much of the information as attachments.

    10. If she has an old passport send that too.

    11. Some old photographs of you both which provide evidence of the relationship might help.

    12. Copies of correspondence between you both might help.

    13. Knowing her for only six months might not help.

    14. Having worked overseas and returned to Thailand will help.

Given the limited time you have known the lady, I have my doubts whether a visa would be forthcoming but I reckon it is worth applying even if it is to provide evidence in a future application of the relationship.

    Best of luck

Body of murdered Briton found in sea

Police on Friday found the body of a UK tourist who was murdered by Burmese workers three days ago off an island in the Andaman Sea during a yacht burglary.

The remains of Malcom Robertson, 64, whose throat was cut and body was thrown into the sea, were found near Rawee island, Pol Col Wirat Saeng-orn, superintendent of the Yala provincial police said.

His wife Linda, who was tied up when her husband was killed, testified in the provincial court Friday because she has to leave Thailand.

According to Reuters at 1920 hours Thailand time, today, Friday 27th March, reports that the body having been found by police are, I am afraid, incorrect.

  9. Each negative story about Thailand is CUMULATIVE. A case like this is yet another small nail in the coffin for the potential growth of Thai tourism. People's attitudes about Thailand abroad are definitely changing for the worse, but it is true just one case doesn't make it or break it.

Shackled and beaten: Simon Burrowes claims British Embassy officials rejected his pleas to double check after they told Thai police his passport number did not exist

'I was thrown in Thai jail because of embassy error'

    Andrew Drummond in Bangkok

    09.03.09

A British martial arts expert claims he was beaten, shackled and imprisoned in Thailand after a British Embassy official mistakenly told police he was travelling on a false passport.

Simon Burrowes says he was treated like a drugs smuggler and thrown into a Thai prison for more than three weeks.

The kickboxing and karate instructor, from Wembley said staff at the embassy in Bangkok took 11 days to admit they were wrong but he was then held for two more weeks after being charged with insulting immigration officials.

He said: "I was arrested on a Friday getting my flight to Britain. Thai immigration officials said they were suspicious of my passport. When they checked with the embassy an official told them my passport number did not exist.

"When I spoke to the embassy official he must have known I was British. I told them the passport was legal.

"He said it did not exist. I begged him to double check. But he refused because the embassy closed at Friday midday for their long weekend. They said they would prioritise the matter the following week, so I was sent to jail. But officials had all day in London to check me out. I cannot believe they could not have done it."

The 44-year-old, who was in Phuket to study kickboxing, added: "From that moment I was treated as someone less than human. I was handcuffed to a Thai and sent to court. As I was being led into the court I was beaten by an official with a leather strap. Then they sent me to jail because I did not have £2,000 for bail."

A charge of travelling on a false passport has been dropped but Thai immigration police have charged Mr Burrowes with verbally abusing its officers.

He said: "They kept me waiting an hour studying my passport with a magnifying glass. I told them I would miss my flight. They told me the flight could not leave without their permission. But it did.

"I was angry. I grabbed my passport and walked out of the immigration area, saying, 'I am a British citizen who has come to your country to spend my money. Don't treat me like a 'f**king idiot.'"

Mr Burrowes demanded to speak to the chief of police or head of immigration. Thai immigration police say it was they who were called "f**king idiots".

Mr Burrowes has been released on bail but his case for insulting an immigration official could take a year to go to court.

He said: "The closest thing the embassy have come to an apology is a statement from their local consular officer who said 'I can empathise with your self-righteousness.' He said it was a one in a thousand glitch. But they could do little else to help me further."

An embassy spokesman "What I could say is that we provided efficient and prompt consular assistance. The issue was resolved as swiftly as possible."

This poor guy was naturally very upset, he probably didnt handle it in the best way in Thailand, but we all handle stress in different ways. I think this poor guy need to come on home, sell his story and take a vacation to a civilised country!

    This Post is 'spooky'.

The Forum has HuaHinDolly [Dolly was the victim's wife's name] being referred to the thugaroo. Is this how they met, or a coincidence?

Good point Eggo, I must admit when I found these posts, I was not then aware of the name of DW's wife and therefore overlooked the fact that the member, who responded to the query, could well have been DO himself.

Here is an interesting comment from elsewhere:

  11. I'm thinking of driving down to Krabi in the low season and would be grateful for a recommendation for a three star hotel in Krabi. No swimming pool required, no need to be near the beach, just a comfortable bed plus tv with English news.

Any recommendations please, with prices if you know them.

Down the board there is another similar thread. Karbi Hotels.

Check there for my recommendations, they fit for you too.

    Many thanks Huggy!

  13. I didn't get round to having a dig at the British Embassy, Bangkok, which has demonstrably failed to detect the runaway crook.

Since when was it the responsibility of British Embassy staff to track down criminals in Thailand?

Absolutely right, they have no jurisdiction to to so nor are they resourced.

Absolutely wrong. Firstly the British Embassy does have resources and secondly doesn't need jurisdiction, it merely makes requests to the Foreign Minister, who considers the request and makes appropriate arrangements as he or she sees fit.

  14. On 29th January I spotted an electrical junction box on the floor next to the bottom of the first set of outside escalators used for illuminating a small garden next to a fountain. The junction box was taking a feed from a connection next to the escalator and the two sets of wires had been insulated using red electrical tape.

In wet weather the junction box will become saturated with water as rain cascades down the metal side of the outside escalator and may well cause the electrocution of customers using this escalator. The whole set up, which was undertaken to illuminate the garden, strikes me as an afterthought and, more importantly, a botched and UNSAFE job.

Will Central take note and take action? Your guess is as good as mine.
