  1. My experience was that the vignette in the passport (which is valid for 30 days) was valid from a date 7 days before our stated travelling date. The residence permit was available to collect from the local post office as from our stated travel date.

it is possible to change the date on the vignette but of course there is a charge for that!

You might want to consider a CT calcium scan. Stress Test will detect 85% of coronary artery disease but 15% will not show up. Since you have history of smoking and are symptomatic I think this would be wise.

Phyathai Sr Racha is offering a promtional price 2,550 on this in February.

I just had the CT scan at Phyathai. Good price, quick service and a very new 256 slice scanner. Takes 5 minutes, non-invasive and it is the gold standard for identifying the extent of your heart disease (if any).

Ivor Cummins on youtube has many videos explaining the benefits of a CT scan.

Did not want to do self upload as I heard you  can get timed out. But looking for barcodes good idea thanks

It's not very elegant, but it works.

There is a file size limit of 10MB, but if you use a PDF size reduction facility (available via your browser), you can include a load of documents in a single file. Our record was 77 pages in a single file which reduced down to only 6MB.
Create PDF files, each containing the documents you want to submit for each category. Reduce their size and then upload them. Takes minutes.
You then have a digital copy of all your documents which is good to keep; and you can leave your originals at home when you go to VFS.

  4. The checklist is merely a list of documents that the system generates based on your inputs on the online application; it is not meant as a definitive list of everything you will need for the visa. So it is not a checklist of the documents you would like to show, it is a checklist showing "must have" documents. It is not a complete list and it does not indicate a sequence.

The easiest approach, if you have scanning facilities, is to upload your documents yourself. When you do this, you have the choice of different categories which are the same as those on the barcoded sheets.

So if you are going to let VFS do the scanning, go to the upload section of your application and make a note of the upload categories, and then sort your documents into those categories before going to VFS.

@fractturedRabbi" filled in and submitted Appendix 2, but I think it is from an earlier process; the questions in Appendix 2 have little relevance to the application type you are making. It's indeed not mentioned anywhere in the application, although there is a heading for it in the document upload section. I have read elsewhere that people have ignored it and received their visa, I just did it for completeness sake and because it does not take long to complete"

just wanted to ask...was the Appendix.. 2 form , done online or filled in manual on printed pdf?

Downloaded, filled in manually, scanned, uploaded. And probably never looked at!

The processing time being equal to the time gap you can specify for a travel date is indeed ridiculous. One way round it is to pay for a priority service which gets you an answer within 30 working days (for us it was 17 days).

I live on a quiet are and usually in the past when I flew friends drone I do it away from places that can cause any issues.

Someone here mentioned ghat foreigners are not allowed to register drones for now because some flew into restricted areas etc. So does that mean like with anything Thais never do anything wrong or bad?

Therefore we aren't allowed to fly drones based on race and or culture.

If you base your perceptions on what "someone mentioned here" then your perceptions will inevitably be skewed. No problem registering to fly drones.

  8. For a visa, there is no such thing as a relationship letter. They don't really care about the state of her relationship; they want to be satisfied that she will have sufficient funds to support her while in the UK, and she must show reason why she would want to return to Thailand (property, job etc.)

If you are providing the funds by sponsoring her, then a sponsor letter would be appropriate; explaining the funds that will be used to support her and providing evidence of those funds.

A far as I know, a TB test only lasts for six months.

Correct. The TB certificate has to be valid at the time the application is submitted; it does not need to be still valid at the preferred travel date stated on the application. My wife's TB will have expired by the time we travel. It is apparently extremely unlikely that she will be asked to show it at UK immigration; but if she is, then she will just have to submit to another test at the airport. Obviously it is best that the cert is valid both when you apply and when you travel; but given the timescales involved this is not always possible.

  10. I have just been through this.

The standard processing time for the application is around 3 months.

When you apply for the visa online you can elect for a priority service which is several hundred pounds more but gets you and answer in 30 working days (assuming there are no issues with your application). Ours came back in 17 days.

Using an agent will not get you an answer quicker. We did it ourselves and it is a load of work but straightforward enough. If you have the facilities, scanning the supporting documents yourself saves time and stress at the application centre when they decide to break up your carefully ordered documents into different categories.

Oh, and read theoldgit's guide as he indicated; very useful. Also this: https://www.migrate.org.uk/spouse-visa-uk-2018/#1544388557814-f271df79-069a

  11. We filled in the on-line settlement visa form a couple of weeks ago and made an appointment to go to VFS today. I printed out the appointment confirmation.

Then I gathered all the necessary documents and loaded them to the VFS site.

This morning my wife went to VFS and they told her that the appointment confirmation did not include the list of uploaded documents (because I had printed the confirmation before uploading). They told her she had to log on and print it again, which was easier said than done as all the necessary passwords were at home on the computer... Fortunately (but suspiciously) a young man at VFS was able to log into her application and print out the revised confirmation.

So, if you self-upload, make sure you only print the appointment confirmation letter after you have finished uploading!
