It needs outside influence to resolve this. Thais themselves are not capable.

Joke of a 'system'.

It loks like a criminal conviction is a jobrequirement for Thai MP's. One can only be sorry for the people of Thailand.
They get the government and MP's they deserve.

So much to do and so little time.
Courts, constitution, army, police, civil service, parliament itself.
Is there any public organisation in the country that isn't tainted?
The problem, as you rightly point out, is sadly with the whole society and culture.

What summed it up for me, was when I was working in Saudi and I was taken to a sports stadium and forced to watch a beheading.
Cut my stint there short and never returned.

Schapelle was as guilty as a puppy by a pile of poo.

After wrapping up the demonstration, protesters gave themselves a round of applause, thanked the Embassy for cooperating with the protest and made their ways home in the rain, in true Thai spirit.
Here was me thinking that the 'true Thai spirit' of protests was financial incentive, violence and general unruly belligerence.

We hate hate?
Sounds like they hate the US and Israel to me.

Thai Muslims point of view:
We want our own schools,
we want our own religion,
we want the south of Thailand to be independent from the rest of Thailand,
we don't want to mix with non Muslims, we don't want non Muslims living with us or marrying our women
They could just go back to Malaysia and get everything they want, but no the bombs and fury needs to be vented.
Except that is was Malay land before it was part of Siam and then part of Thailand. They just want to revert to what it was prior to the Anglo-Siamese Treaty of 1909.
They didn't come from Malaysia... Malaysia is the amalgamate of the remaining Malay states Britain refused to allow Siam to claim sovereignty over plus some others that claimed independence from Britain after WWII.
They have their own schools and they have their own religion.

I am pretty sure they do not have deep fryers in aircraft these days.
They do in Scotland. Not allowed to fly without them.

The Thaksin era is over, but so too is the Democrat/Military axis of divine rule. It's time for Thailand to move on before time passes it by.
Problem is, neither side will acknowledge that.

There's no khlong in the middle of Sathorn Road.

I have like many of TV members used Bangkok taxi's many times and have never felt totally safe, they are either on the phone, looking around not appearing to concentrate. Obviously there are good as well as bad taxi drivers but the bad far outweigh the good.
You can now report drivers that refuse to take you to your destination (it is against the law to refuse a fare based on the destination).
I reported 2 drivers on Saturday for refusing to take my gf and myself when it was pouring rain on Friday evening.
The more people that report, the less it will happen.

The people insinuating the victim was drunk or on drugs should be ashamed of themselves.
The Police have charged the taxi driver with reckless driving so they must have evidence to suggest he was at fault.
Yes but without insinuating anything, just acknowledging the possibility under the apparent circumstances, should alcohol or drugs turn up in the victims or if they were crossing a street illegally/recklessly where pedestrians would never be expected then I would expect charges to be filed against them her as well.
Charged with what?
How do you bring charges to a dead person? Charge their next of kin?
-
Unfortunately safety is not a major concern for young tourists/expats. Going out late and getting drunk is first priority.
Less of a concern for taxi drivers it would seem. They don't even have the common decency to remain at the scene of a serious accident.

For those unaware (and if so you really shouldn't be driving in Thailand yourself), normal speed limits in Thailand are 60km/h (37mph) in the city, 90km/h (56mph) on main country roads and 120km/h (74mph) on expressways.

I somehow doubt this information that the speed limit would be 60 km an hour on a four lane road made for high speed travel as others have stated.
Sathorn Road is not a road made for high speed travel. It is a main thoroughfare in the central business district. The area is home to many hotels, restaurants, schools and businesses.
The speed limit in the area is 60 km/h.
-
Thai drivers generally accommodate pedestrians crossing the road by slowing down or driving round them, or even letting them safely cross.
Standing outside my Soi on Charoen Krung at the zebra crossing watching the people trying to cross the road when there's a green man will relieve you of that notion.

Easy to blame the Thai car driver (Thai bashing) but we don't know the full facts and the car driver might be completely innocent (or completely guilty)
He fled the scene, that usually indicates he's got something to hide.
-
then you are most likely to be at fault if you get hit by a car going at 70-80kph, well within the speed limit and far slower than most vehicles on Sathorn at most times, except in jams.
The speed limit is 60km/h on Sathorn and in most built up areas.

Its about time Thailand started charging those who flee the scene of an accident.
Bingo. We have a winner folks.

Terrible tragedy.
Another victim of the most dangerous tourism destination for Brits, Aussies and Swedes.

The bottom line is you cannot believe an organisation that continues to use this fraudulent device and you certainly cannot believe someone that says it works on "something above science".
