  1. I dont know where the he's getting that 40,000 year figure, never heard of that see this film at about 35seconds, that's always the cycle we were taught in geology 101.. this film is one of the 'ice age scare' that was all over the media in the 70s and 80's, notice the culprit was the same and we were supposed to be all frozen by now.. we're at the end of a 10,000 year interglacial, also see my temp chart on page 1. The fear of sudden glacial, only 20years, younger dryas.. dennis quaid movie took it to 2 weeks..

Yeah this is used a lot by climate change deniers. I don't think there was anywhere near a consensus on this theory. The narrator uses the very ambiguous term "some scientists..." Here is a popular meme for them:

  2. I remember some greedy businessman, named Al Gore, spreading an "Inconvenient Lie"... over a decade ago. Will he be held responsible? Will he ever be questioned about the 20 or so air-conditioning units in his luxurious villa??? No, because the majority of us humans are stupid, lazy and ignorant sheeple who won't deserve better than being lied at. We basically beg all those opportunist f__ks to lie to us, we love it! ermm.gif

I think if you use the word "sheeple" in a forum debate, you automatically lose that debate. I think it's a sub section of Godwins law.

Well anyway, here's some more "lies": The scientific consensus is that the Earth's climate system is unequivocally warming, and that it is extremely likely (at least 95% probability) that humans are causing most of it through activities that increase concentrations ofgreenhouse gases in the atmosphere, such as deforestation and burning fossil fuels.

Sorry MJ, the debate is actually over.

  3. Climate change is normal. Even Mars is warming. Politicians who use their power to tell you otherwise (ahem..Al Gore..Obama) are fear mongering profiteers. Google it. Al Gore created hysteria and owns a carbon credit company and his wealth is soaring to the tune of $200,000,000-$300,000,000. Thats the same as me lighting your house on fire and then selling you a fire extinguisher. This is a not get rich quick scheme. It's a get SUPER rich quick scheme. Get informed.

  4. Im off to burn some more fossil fuels to cancel out this ice age, I dont believe mans impact on global warming is anything more than hot air coming out of politicians and some scientists <deleted>

Hmm..Your position on climate change can not be reconciled with your avatar.

  5. Don't have to pay tax if you drive on the red plates.

"Red plates can now only be fitted to a car or bike for 3,000km or 1 Month (whichever comes first). Exceeding this, or any attempt to obscure the plate number and/or use of damaged plates that cannot be clearly read will attract a fine not exceding 2,000 Baht."

It took 6 or 7 months for the dealer to get the white plates despite several inquiries.

Good, I am waiting now already over 2 months for my white plates from Ducati. I'll send them the bill if I get fined, let's see what they say to that.

I wont accept buying a bike and then not being allowed to ride it because the dealer can't get their asses up.

To get the white plates the dealer has to go to the DLT and pay the taxes. And they don't like to do that. That is the only reason for any delay, there is no shortage of plates.

There is another reason. New bikes and cars are usually not the property of the dealer. The dealer does not have to pay for the bike/car until they report it sold and they can't get a book and plates for it without documents from the factory/distributor. For example, I once had a bike that was permanently on red plates because of a dispute between a dealer and the manufacturer. The dealer was paid in full, but never paid the distributor for the bike, but kept the money to pay for what the dealer believed they were owed by the distributor in repair parts the distributor couldn't or wouldn't supply.

  6. yeah the 15+ is a suggested rating, your daughter can go on her own is how I read it. You can not like the US where R ratings you are suppose to be 18 by law unless accompanied by an adult. Thailand has some weird laws on movies on television, like censorship of things like smoking, alcohol, drugs, gun play. But im sure if accompanied by an adult its ok. If its in the cinema, its not banned in Thailand, which is the only thing I'd worry about.

    From wikipedia:

The 1930 Film Act was replaced in 2009 by a film-ratings system. The ratings system has six classifications – G for general audiences, P for "promote" as educational, 13+, 15+ and 18+ suggested viewing ages and the restricted 20- rating, which requires ID checks at the cinemas. A hidden seventh tier of the system is an outright ban by the Film and Video sub-committee

boring but somewhat interesting source considering current times: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinema_of_Thailand

Just FYI R is 17+ in the states, and it's also not law. Its voluntary. X (now called NC-17) is 18+ by law no matter if with parents or not. Theaters don't always ask for ID if it's an R movie unless they look well under 17. I remember when i was young, it was common for parents dropping kids off at the theaters to have to purchase the R rated movie tickets for them. The parent didn't seem to have to accompany them to the actual movie. I actually worked security at a theater for a couple years and I don't remember the issue coming up more than a couple times, usually kids under 13-14 buying tickets to a PG or PG 13 movie then sneaking into an R with obviously no parents in attendance.

Kind of moot now since any computer, tablet or smart phone can bring up anything of any rating with a few keystrokes.

I was listening to a radio host saying he brought his 7 year old to it and said it was fine. Lots of silly superhero type action which didn't adhere to any laws of physics belonging to this universe. I'll wait for it to come out on DVD.

  7. Sure peoples is acceptable, when referring to groups of people from multiple ethnic, cultural, racial, or national backgrounds.

So in the context here I think 'peoples' is simply a mistake, but it does exist.

Nope. I used it intentionally and exactly as you you described. Is there a group of people who spell it "gaol"? wink.png

I honestly wanted to know of there are places where jail is spelled gaol. I have seen it before but I think only on this forum. Since this is an international forum, I naturally, occasionally, come across English words, spellings or phrases which I have never encountered, as we don't use them in the states. Having lived abroad for so long with many British and European friends I guess I take an interest in learning these and thus am curious when I encounter a new one of which Google does not help me determine if it is still widely used somewhere. So my question remains unanswered.

  8. Maybe he doesn't want to be found by the OP, and is not even in gaol.

Do peoples somewhere actually spell it gaol?

Is "people" plural, or is it "peoples?" biggrin.png

In this context "peoples" is acceptable. "The peoples of ancient England spelled (or spelt for you limeys) "jail," "gaol."

  9. But how do you give them money if you don't know where he is and I don't speak Thai language.

If you learn which jail he is in, you find out who the jailer is, you hand him money. Then you get as much visitation time you want regardless of posted hours, you can bring him anything you want, even have "private" time with him.

If he is in the prison, sorry I don't know anything about that. Only heard that it is a special kind of hell from people who have been there.

What do you mean with "the jailer", is that a prison guard who has responsibility for a certain detainee?

Walk into the station, say "Jail?" to anyone in uniform. They will point you to a desk in the back left corner. The policeman who sits there or who will show up shortly is the jailer, or guard.

  10. The dealer in town closed over a year ago. Last time I saw the bikes sold was at Big C many months ago.

Their website went down summer of 2013 and I can't find a new one, so perhaps they have pulled out of Thailand completely. Some of the latest models had promise but I think they never overcame the initial quality issues of 2007-2009.

You can see their Thailand website achieved here: http://web.archive.org/web/20130616061901/http://platinummotorsale.com/

  12. I can confirm the above. I have had to have things notarized twice for a parents estate settlement in the states. I confirmed with the organization in the states first if they would accept a Thai notary, and they did. Confirm this before seeing a Thai notary. You may need to go to your embassy.

You must find a Thai attorney that is a "Notarial Services Attorney." The ones I visited in Phuket wanted to take 2 days to complete it, so if you need it done in one visit, call first to make sure the attorney is in and is willing to do it on the spot.

  13. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

This could become a tit for tat .... you ban our airlines, we will ban yours tongue.png

Dont think TAT would allow that , mess up there 700% rising in tourusts this week

Yeah.."Oh, so you're not going to let us fly to your country to bring your citizens to vacation or do business in our country? Well in that case, we won't let you bring your own citizens to vacation or do business in our country either!" That would be an exceedingly stupid thing for Thailand to do, which means it is very probable.

  14. So I guess the coastguard is going to be making some extra money in the near future, and I don't mean from the fines.

There is no coastguard in Thailand. There is no regular on-water patrols of any kind in the Andaman.

But your point about the $$ is valid...a measly 10,000B fine will not discourage. As is often the case with fines in Thailand, they can elect to pre-pay the fine then continue with their illegal activity unimpeded.

  15. Great, if they can enforce it. They have been talking about doing this for a while since it was so successful last year in the gulf.

The problem with throwing undersize fish back is that are mostly eaten by sea birds,...

    What sea birds?

due to their swim bladders having expanded and full of air, having been taken from the depth of the trawl to the surface, taken out and exposed to the air, their chances of surviving after being caught are pretty slim unfortunately.

The trawlers around Phuket tend to concentrate around the shallow areas like the Sea of Phuket/Phangna Bay which is fairly shallow, 40-50m at most.

  16. Aussie looks likes a big guy and by the looks of all blood he must of been getting a WHOOP'N so trying to even it out, Out came the blade..

Or....Or.....he got into an altercation with the bouncer, he stabbed him and the rest of the bouncers gave him a kicking afterwards. Most humans IF under attack from several people at once take the foetal position and don't have time to take a knife out of their pocket, unlock it and be able to attack the initial attacker.

All speculation until the real facts are reported.

Hmm..I thought it was "fight or flight"..where does the foetal position factor into that?
