  1. Well, I went down to Big C and tried Amorn. Unfortunately, they were useless. The shop was a complete mess and staffed by middle-aged women who had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. I tried a few of the other little shops around the ground floor and nobody had any. I was about to write it off as a wasted journey, but tried JBB as a last ditch effort. I'd already been into another of their stores earlier today and they didn't have any, but the guy immediately clocked onto what I wanted, and gave me a little tube for free! Result!

  2. I live in Phuket and use TOT as my ISP currently. I have no issues with the bandwidth or the speed of my connection - downloads are always fast, and pages load very quickly. However, latency to many servers outside of Thailand is just awful. As far as I can tell, it's because the way the traffic is routed just makes no sense. I can ping Paris and London based servers for around 250-300ms, but Singapore based servers are very often 350-400ms. I'm not quite sure where the information is being routed before it finally ends up in Singapore, but it seems like it's often going all the way to the US and back.

This is very frustrating for me, because I like to play online games from time to time, where having a low latency is often important.

Is there anything I can do about this? Are there any VPN services that will help with the latency between Thailand and Singapore that anybody knows about? I don't have much faith in actually calling TOT and asking them to do anything about it, but does anybody think it's worth a shot?

  3. My Thai girlfriend is expecting our first child at the end of the year. I'd very much like to get him dual-nationality as soon as possible to make it easier when we eventually want to go back and live in the UK.

I've been searching Google for a step-by-step guide, but it's very confusing and the information is seemingly spread across multiple UK Government Agency websites.

Does anybody have a link to a clear, concise step-by-step guide for the application process?

    Cheers.

  4. OK, I got in contact with my old agency. They tell me that they can cancel the work permit, but that they'll need a copy of it to do so. I'm assuming they dont have their copies anymore, and it's looking like I've definitely lost it. Am I going to have to get a replacement WP simply to cancel it? Or are the agency wrong and they can cancel it anyway?

  5. I'm currently working in Phuket, and my school is going through the application process for a work permit for me. Today they told me that the immigration office told them they couldn't issue me with one because I already hold a Songkhla work permit. This old permit was from a job that I finished just under a year ago, but I wasn't aware at the time that I needed to do anything to cancel my old one. I never heard anything about it from the school or the agency I was working with at the time.

To make matters worse, I'm currently frantically searching for the work permit, but I've moved a few times and I can't find it at the moment. It might turn up, but let's assume for now that I have lost it.

What are my options in this situation? My current Non-B visa expires on the 26th of September, so I would VERY much like to avoid another trip to Penang and to have my new work permit by then so I can extend my current visa.

Am I going to have any trouble cancelling the old work permit? How do I go about doing that? Seeing as I've lost it, AND the fact that I haven't even been working at the school it's tied to for nigh on a year, I'm panicking a bit.

  6. If you can get it to load (I think it's probably getting alot of traffic at the moment) there are a number of photos on the khonthai forums.

There are some from inside the shopping centre itself, and some of the underground parking area. Whatever did cause this, be it deliberate or accidental, it looks like it did alot of damage.
