Does the green bus vip from Chiang Mai drop you by the border immigration just like the minibus's do?
-
Cheers dear.

Sorry about this but I've been looking online with no joy. Need to do a visa run to to Mae Sai but am tired of the little minibus with crap air con. Anyhow they refuel and stop at the roadside for the drivers breakfast once your all on board which is annoying.
-
I have been with M and J a few times and am slightly displeased with the experience.
Firstly they piled us all in then went to get fuel. Why didn't they do it the night before? Then the driver pulls over 20 minutes later to have is breakfast at the side of the road. Surely they can do all this before saving us getting dicked about.
Usually all this wouldn't bother me but the air con was set to how the driver liked it.....bloody sweltering. He returned from his breakfast and asked if "everything was ok"? I replied "more water on the coals please" it was that hot.
Never again!

Cheers for help. Still not sure what to do but at least I'm better informed now.

You seem to be on a visa exempt entry both times (30 days by air and 15 days by land) so FYI a tourist visa provides a 60 day stay and can be extended at immigration for another 30 days and any Thai Consulate (they are located outside Thailand) can provide (those in Laos would likely provide two at the same time). You do not appear to qualify for a business visa and would have to be enrolled for an education course for that option.
Can I obtain a 60 day tourist visa whilst in thailand?
Many thanks for your reply by the way!

Sorry about doing this, on an unco-operative phone and searching visa content is difficult. Came over on a 30 day tourist visa and have just done a awful visa run to the Burmese border giving me another 14 days.
What I'm looking for is an education/business visa but I have no idea of the requirements or where to go. By the way I am from the UK and am 31 year old. Any help is much appreciated.
P.S. The visa run was an absolute circus. First the air-con didn't work, then the driver pulled over to fill up before we left and then pulled over ten minutes to eat at a roadside stall to have some lovely som tam whilst we the paying customers sat cooking alive in the oven of a minibus.

I would get rid of it straight away. Police confiscate them all the time. Seriously you need to heed my advice.
Thankfully the gods have smiled on you and I have a Mio 125 you can have in exchange. No need to thank me I'm just glad to be able to help.

Hi I took out compulsory insurance but am thinking its probably best to upgrade to first class insurance.
The bike is a 125 scooter worth 32000 baht. Does anybody know if this is possible and approximately how much it will cost?
-
Did the OP have his friends permission to use the bike. That's the elephant in the room.

Why does everyone always bring up that their missus part Chinese from 17 generations ago. Its just such a crap thing to keep throwing in every conversation.

I think that by and large, most Thais just don’t care a whole lot about their mostly crappy jobs. We get all worked up into a frenzy and run around red-faced, look down our nose and shake our fists, and they laugh. I don’t think it’s childish, I just think they have different priorities. They quit and go help with the harvest or because their mom is sick, it would not even occur to them that their job has some importance beyond generating income. I respect that, and in a lot of ways admire it.
I know I can get at least twice the work out of an average factory worker in the US than I can from an average worker in Thailand, but I have to pay the US worker five or ten times as much.
We should consider ourselves lucky. If the average Thai had the drive and work ethic of the average American, we westerners would not be able to earn a living here.
A German labor could do at least the double, sometimes I think maybe triple. But a lot is balanced because the Thais have no problem working 10-12 hours a day 5-6 days a week.
We worked for 3 month from 8 AM till 1-3 AM, 6 days a week. Of course the labor made excellent money and liked it therefor. If you do that in German the labor union and the state would complete freak out.
That compensate a lot....
You lost me. You worked where and for who and with whom?
I work now in Bangkok, for my company, with Thai staff, together with my wife who is Chinese ethnic from the south of Thailand.
Prove it.

I quite fancied Muay Thai boxing. But I got destroyed in the ring.

Don't American cars fall apart after a few months though?
-
I tried it once. Got stuck in my throat. Had a stiff neck for a few hours but all ok.
All jokes aside I can see them facing some stiff competition. Hopefully it all goes well and doesn't come to a sticky end.

In the same position as yourself and more than happy to meet for a friendly chat/beer/bite to eat etc.

The first word on this thread was "idiots".
Not the most sofisticated way for an OP to get started.
Sophisticated, old bean.

Now I carry a small towel left in the storage compartment. Does the trick.
-
Pressing down with your gloves works? I tried fixing a towel on by zip ties and did an exemplary job. Then it rained and it got soggy, dam_n.
Now I just carry a small towel and either cover it beforehand or when I get on.

What pick up can u pick up cheap second hand without picking up a total wreck?

I like spicy food such as vindaloo and the odd fahl but my first two weeks of my time in Thailand left me feeling like I constantly had a blow torch to my ring piece.
Now I give it a miss and no longer produce molten lava from Satan's alley.

How did this thread get derailed about som chai being stationary with the engine and air con on.
I would only buy a vehicle off my hi so Thai Chinese friends who pay for everything and love and respect me in equal measure.
-
Lanna Muay Thai is not that great I can attest to that. They just want you to pay and go with unsanitary conditions inbetween. I know a lot of people who have been once and never again.

Same same but different. I bought a compass with a sticky back so I could figure the map out easier. Placed it on the bike dashboard in the afternoon in the residents parking lot. Came out a few hours later to find it gone.
Just out of curiosity I asked the manager to review the cctv for a laugh. Well well the cleaning lady apparently watched me stick it on then promptly pulled it off and put it in their cleaning room.
Manager came back with a story how she found it on the floor and put it in the bin which has now been collected. Very convenient.
A lot of saving face all round but how stupid is that.
