I think he is a smart guy and I agree with many of his sentiments, but his closing statements contradict the current PDRC process itself. Also I think he is attempting to smooth-out this process to reassure normal people that the PDRC is needed, which again contradicts his last statements about how the Dems should run in elections as a progressive reform party. I file this stuff under "relax, everything is being taken care of."

They would probably be better off looking at the specific situation in Thailand, than looking elsewhere f.ex the Philippines. It is sort of evasive to ignore the wishes of the people directly involved, while busying yourself looking at other examples instead. The South problem is solvable in the sense it could be solved, but also unsolvable because the solution is unappealing to the people who could bring about that solution. So just from a logic viewpoint, it can not be solved until new people arrive or the old people change their priorities. I would say the fact that people have been dying in huge numbers due to this problem, is reason enough to implement the solution that the majority of people directly involved are demanding, and as a matter of urgency.

I'm with you on that. Yes, it's what made me think about, as I said the photos do not look like the same man. Which is a worry. If the hypothesis is right, there's a dangerous scumbag out there who WILL do it again, even if he's smart enough to lay low for a year or two, he will re-offend.

Yes, and staying on that line of thought, why did the CCTV not capture the man entering the building - we would have seen his face clearly. We only saw the back of his head. Would it not have been possible to scan back through the CCTV records to the point in time when the man walked into the building and his face was clearly visible? Even if he had entered from another doorway, there would probably be CCTV there too. It is very mysterious to me.

But like I've said from the start, I really HOPE that Nui is the guilty man - because that means he is locked up and all children are a little bit safer in this crazy world. So I totally hope that he is guilty, and I really don't want to consider other possibilities unless they are obvious and demand consideration.

I realise photos can be deceptive, but looking at this photo and the CCTV photo, I get the feeling that they are two different men. Something about the shape of the head, neck and shoulders. Also the cctv guy looks a bit heavier, and has lighter skin.

It wouldn't be the first time someone has made a false confession. It wouldn't be the first time police have stitched someone up to get results.

When this story first broke, and the CCTV pictures were released, my first thought was "it is a foreigner." In the CCTV shot he looks heavy-set, tall, and white - characteristics which do not apply to "Nui."

But I later factored in that CCTV is not really good for colour or scale, for example he might just look big because he was walking with a tiny kid. But even so, I have some lingering thoughts in the back of my head that the perp in the CCTV was possibly not Thai.

I hope they have got the right guy, and he wasn't just confessing under duress, because of a mental disorder, or taking the rap on behalf of somebody else.

How do you explain how he led them to the body of another victim?

Maybe because the person paying him to take the rap told him. At least in prison he will get fed.

As has happened before, people get paid to take the rap. If his single name is as reported, ie that his surname is not registered, it's highly likely that he is very under-educated and poor.

His family get some money, he gets a meal every day without working.

That was also my chain-of-thought. I've never said Nui is innocent, or that somebody else did it. The CCTV pictures make me consider that possibility - but I have not moved over to that viewpoint entirely, only considered it.

Following the possibility that Nui took the rap, it is possible the guilty man is wealthy - possibly famous - and has offered large sums of money to Nui's family in exchange for Nui accepting guilt and showing the cops to the crime scenes - locations that the actual guilty man could easily have told him. Other incentives apart from a huge cash payment, could be possible threats to Nui's family if he said "no." This kind of thing happens around the world every day.

And again, I would not even consider this possibilty if the guy in the CCTV shot looked even remotely like Nui.

Unfortunately hate has been instilled in both sides and that is going to take a long time to heal.

Even the polerisation into two sides is something that will likely take a generation or more to bring back together, particularly when children are taught the hate.

Fortunately this does not appear to be general throughout the country but is only in places where there are fanatics of whatever color.

Where I live people can live together as friends and neighbors and still have different political views, although they may not be discussed particularly openly they are still respected and accepted by all but a few and I see those few getting less and less.

No need for violence from any side but also no need to do things to provoke those who you know have strong views.

I agree with you about the bitter political divisions, which are often present within the same family.

Leaders who do not have a worthy policy package will often focus on increasing factionalism, "us versus them" politics, and will use division as a distraction.

This boils down to leaders inciting followers to demand the destruction of political rivals, as opposed to those voters demanding their own party produce results, or demanding their basic human rights such as full-wage economics, regulations, stability and security etc.

This politics of division is "the only game in town" at the moment. And behind it lies a lack of progressive policies, lack of genuine desire to see corruption stamped out, lack of intention to bolster living standards or meritocratic full-wage systems. Divisive factionalism in politics is cheaper and easier for the leaders - at least in the short term which is all they care about.

Yingluck, it is time to stop falling out of vans, and to start falling on your sword.

I'm sure there's a lot of hard labor work under the hot sun that he can do for the rest of his days, with his leg-irons and bowl of rice per day salary. Make him contribute to improving society by digging and carrying, instead of just robbing the most precious things from society - children. Death sentences or just sitting around are not punishment, and doesn't help society. Hard labor is punishment and repayment at the same time.

It is too much to hope for that we will ever see the reply to this letter.

Seriously though this will she / won't she gossip at the moment is very diversionary. She faces very serious charges, and in a nation where it takes rather a lot for wealthy persons to end up facing serious charges.

This "running for office or not" question doesn't seem to be very apt to ask at the current time. Its like asking the captain of the Titanic if he plans to captain more ships in the future, as he gurgles his way to the seabed.
