  1. P.S. Just realized I neglected to mention:

Phyathai Hosp (there are several, Phyathai 2 at Victory Monument seems in particular to have some senior docs doing orivate hours there)

Thonburi Hospital - of you happen to be near that side of the river, this is a medium sized private hospital located near Siriraj so some of the top Siriraj docs do private practice there.

In these as in all, you still need to research doctor qualifications.

Sheryl, thanks for the info !

But how do I research doctors' qualifications ?

  2. Let us help this man.

    ================

First thing - Check the model no of this PC/laptop, so that you can identify the WLAN adapator and download the driver

Yes, I should have thought of that, but I assumed Windows was "plug and play"

Anyway, I downloaded the driver from ASUS website and now wifi on Win7 is working.

Now to reinstall eveything, but at least all the junk is cleaned out !

  3. I had to reformat my Windows 7 partition to get rid of a nasty virus.

Installed Windows 7 again, but now the wifi adapter is not recognized and cannot connect to Internet.

Luckily I still have my WindowsXP partition working, but how to get Internet back for Win 7 ?

  4. How long ago did you get those visas?

There is a very good chance you would not get one now because the MFA came out with a directive that tightened the requirements.

I don't recall any reports ever of a multiple entry visa of any kind being issued in Cambodia or Vietnam.

The last multi-O was issued in Phnom Penh in August. When I picked it up I did see another person get a multiple entry tourist visa.

As you know, it's all up to the discretion of the officer in charge (each time the clerk always said "I'll have to ask my boss"). I think it's the intermittent employment contract in a neighboring country that does the trick as it gives a good reason for coming and going.

  5. Thanks for the link and very interesting read.......learn something everyday......

Hope I don't have to get married AGAIN....wub.png

    but

that looks like the best way to get the..Proof of having legal custody of the child document needed for an 'O' visa

    or

I can continue just getting 30 day stamps at the airport hmmmmmm?

    cheers

It's not always necessary to be married to the mother or have legal custody.

In your home country it would be easiest and just the birth cerificate would probably suffice

I have obtained 1-year multiple entry "O" visas for visiting my son from Thai embassies in Hanoi, Colombo, and Phnom Penh. Each time I showed the birth certificate, a letter from my "wife" (we're not officially married) with copies of her ID card, money in a Thai bank, and an employment contract in the country I was working at the time.

If you're not working, retired or rich Immigration has good reason to be suspicious why and how you are going to stay in Thailand for an extended period.

  6. >Now that the note 3 will be coming out soon the note 2 prices should be dropping.

Where did this information come from? The Note 2 only came on the shelves five months ago in November. Expect prices of Note 2 to stay unchanged for foreseeable future.

Samsung Galaxy S3 & Note 2 price slashes at Amazon US

Under: AT&T, Mobile Phones, Samsung, Sprint, Verizon

    Date: March 14th, 2013

Although the focus of the smartphone world is very much on the Samsung Galaxy S4 event later today where we expect to hear all of the official gen at last, we want to talk for a moment about the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2. These two are extremely popular and impressive devices and Amazon US has now slashed the prices on Verizon, AT&T and Sprint, very timely indeed. Read on for all of the details you need.

    samsung-galaxy-s3-note2-amazon.jpg

A particularly good bargain can be had on the Galaxy S3 and although we’d expect price cuts with the Galaxy S4 so close to release we haven’t seen anything as competitive as this previously. We had seen deals recently for the Galaxy S3 where the price had been discounted to $99.99 on a two-year contract but Amazon has topped that completely.

If you purchase currently through Amazon US with the usual two-year contract the Galaxy S3 is now available on Verizon in black, blue or white color options from only $0.01. For AT&T it’s available in blue, white or red, also for only 1 cent and for Sprint you can get the Galaxy S3 in blue or white, again for $0.01. Now that’s some serious price-cutting!

Prices of the Galaxy Note 2 phablet have also been cut on Amazon from today. On AT&T it’s available in titanium or white for $149.99 on a two-year contract. Better still, if Sprint is your choice of carrier the Galaxy Note 2 is currently available in titanium or white for only $69.99 on-contract. We imagine these prices are for new customers only but the source link below doesn’t make that clear. Nevertheless these are prices certainly worth considering.

Although the Galaxy S4 is due to be announced later this evening the Galaxy S3 is still a very notable device. The Galaxy Note 3 may not be along for many months yet so these are attractive prices for the Note 2. Send us your comments to let us know if you will be taking advantage of these offers from Amazon US?

  7. You are trying to use a retail product key on an OEM CD. You should install using a standard product cd.

DVD was retail version and previously installed on my laptop.

Solved the problem by buying on-line a Win7 product key for USD 23.99, a lot cheaper than buying another DVD I don't need.

  8. Jiu-Jitu is trying to help out. If the laptop brand/make is known, then can do www. search and find out if there is a recovery partition, and how to get into it.

Follow this for an example: http://answers.micro...58-298ec70a6185

If xp can be recovered, then usually possible to upgrade to win7 (at cost).

    Good luck, AA

Too late to go back to XP and try to upgrade.

Have already deleted all the old junk and reinstalled required applications.

Just need to get the Windows 7 activated (willing to pay).

  9. Is it possible in Thailand to buy a product key for Windows 7 on-line ?

My son's PC which had XP installed crashed so I installed Windows 7 from a disk I had already used to install 7 on my laptop. Of course the product key verification failed, but when I went to the Microsoft web site to buy another product key I couldn't get it to work. After verifying the Windows as genuine the webpage said "don't navigate away from this page", but then didn't do anything else !

Has anyone else successfully purchased a product key on-line in Thailand, or do I have to buy another DVD (which I don't really need) just to get that "magic number" ?

  10. Anyone know anything about a shooting about a week agao in Buriram ?

Two youths on a motorcycle were killed by some other youths outside a 7-11 late Saturday night.

    Interested in knowing the details........

  11. I have heard of this being done but I doubt the value and validity of such practice in circumstances where the child is or becomes the custodial responsibility of either the Thai mother/father or grandparent or relative as that then would give them access to use the asset "in the best interest of the child" which of course could mean taking out a loan upon or selling the property which could then be applied as the custodial parent saw fit.

I'm not a lawyer and of course Thai law is unlike any other in the world so I wouldn't know whether you could set up a family trust and make the property an asset of the trust and the child(ren) the sole beneficiaries of that Trust. It would be worth investigating.

On the other hand if you can get sole legal custody of your Thai child then it would be a different story as nobody else can then interfere!

    1. If property is owned by a child it cannot be mortgaged except with permission of the Family Court who decides whether it is in the child's best interest.

    2. In Thai law there is no such thing as a trust.

  12. Re Chuwit Park, it used to be open all day, morning until evening, until maybe a year or so ago...

And then the hours were shortened and now I believe it's just a couple hours in the morning and another couple hours in the late afternoon/early evening, but closed during the midday.

It's a very nice little local park, a kind of haven from the noise and rush of adjoining Suk Rd... Very popular with Thai and farang Moms and their small children. Too bad its hours have been limited.

It's open from 6 am to 10 am and from 4 pm to 8pm.

Quite a lot of people use the park, especially for exercise in the morning and families with small children in the evening.

I asked one of the caretakers why it was closed in the middle of the day and he said they had too many problems with "undesireables" sleeping there all day long.

  13. Was the drive under power, that is disk spinning, when it was dropped? If not, the heads automatically move to a landing zone out of the way of the active surface of the drive and you may be ok regarding surface damage.

No, unfortunately it was running at the time.

Won't the damaged spots be found by the format program and marked as not to be used ?

It should be able to. However, the bad sector information storage area is limited in size and if exceeds that amount that area can not be salvaged. Just have to wait for the low level format to complete and see.

OK, I'll let you know what happens.

    18% so far .............

  14. Was the drive under power, that is disk spinning, when it was dropped? If not, the heads automatically move to a landing zone out of the way of the active surface of the drive and you may be ok regarding surface damage.

No, unfortunately it was running at the time.

  15. I expect the disk read/write head may have struck the platter(s) when dropped...this is never a good thing.

If the manufacturer of the drive has a utility/program to do a "low level/physical format" that may help/fix the issue. Low level/physical formats are done at the factory but programs do exist to redo the low level format. Don't confuse a regular format (a.k.a., high level/operating system) like you probably did with a low level/physical format. If the manufacturer's support web site has such a low level/physical format utility (some do, some don't), download it, give it a try (which will probably take a couple hours to complete), then do another regular/high level format....you may get lucky and fix the problem.

Unfortunately I don't have the purchase receipt anymore, so the manufacturer (Buffalo) won't do anything.

However, I did find a low-level format program on the internet and it is now running (3% so far).

If it works it looks like it will also get rid of the annoying write-protected virtual CD drive which the manufacturer bundled with useless "utilities".

But will it still be reliable as a backup disk (all bad sectors not used at all ?)
