seems like some thais get extra face points in buddha heaven by screwing over farangs, and get to brag about it to their drinking buddies.

After I learned to speak/understand Thai I learned that Thais speak very bad and have no respect for anybody. Not just Farrang.

(I hear things in the BTS, busses that sometimes make me wish i had not learned the language)

Some Thais explained to me that if you get cheated it only mean they are better business men than you.

They explain to me that general Thais have two faces and a cheating heart.

Always expect them to try and cheat you unless they know that your are not a touristsad.png

When I moved to BKK everybody tried to cheat me, until they found out, that I lived in the local neighborhood.

The tourist do not care that they get cheated and the Thais only see your white skin and expect that you are just yet another

tourist with a big wallet facepalm.gif

  2. Can someone say "overreaction"?

Overreaction....that's the strange thing about the OP, Thailand is most likely to be safer today than it has been in the last 12 months.

one suspects over all crime will decrease, there will not be nightly grenade attacks, people getting shot at protests in BKK, the BiB will be keeping a low profile and not scamming money off people etc.

    I agree....

I spend 6 hours in BKK today. I did not see more that 10 soldiers.... and nothing really special....

When you can not give it away expect it to drop lower..

Is not falling food prices a welcome news when the last years have been all about inflating food prices? Lower rice price means easier for Thailands poor to feed themselfs, while the middle class can continue to eat their processed and imported expensive food. That the falling price is subsidised by the rich tax money is how a working society should work. Redistribution of wealth.

Falling rice prices are because the Thai Govt has totally f***ed the market. Prices offered to the dirt poor farmers have fallen to as low as 4500 bht per tonne, less than it costs to produce. Tell me how that helps the rural poor?

I agree, this year is not looking good price wise,it,s all very well for Xminator to waffle his marxist claptrap, but if you a farmer or have an investment in rice farms this coming year is looking bleak, and yes the govt made this mess, and a lot of farmers are bankrupt now because of it.

    It will get worse:

Many farmers here do not plant the paddy fields this season, because they do not expect to be able to get Mr. Taksins min. price.

And then they did not go to vote, because they wanted to show their anger w00t.gif

  4. I just today finished the change from work to marriage as reason for extension of stay, only I keep working for the same company but wanted to have a more stable basis for my extension as I worry a bit about the stability of my employer.

The first time is a bit of a hurdle to take as they ask for all kinds of proof that you are actually married and live together. We even had to show up at immigrations with a Thai neighbor who states that we live in our house together. My luck was that one of our neighbors works a volunteer at immigrations...

Further extensions of stay based on marriage should now be more easy than the work extensions.

    Good choice thumbsup.gif

My attorney recommended me the marriage visa (Extension) instead of a Business for the same reason, Much easier when you have done it once :-)

When I extended my stay 2 and 3 time i only have to fill in a new TM7, copy the passport and take new pictures of me and the family, All paperwork DONE smile.png

(All other papers was the same)

    P.s

4 month after I changed the visa I resigned from the company because of missing salary..

2 month after I resigned, they fired all (with no salary) and closed the office.

And I still have my marriage visa (Extension)thumbsup.gif

  5. The Thai immigration at the airport newer once asked me

to show documentation for buying a return ticket when I earlier visit Thailand on Tourist visa's,

I would not worry except that normally a return ticket is cheaper than 2 single tickets.
(If you intend to go to Thailand and later return home to your origin :-)

When I derided to stay and live in Thailand, I applied for a NON-O visa at the Thai embassy in my home country.

They required a booking of a return tickets, before they give me a NON-O visa.

(So I picked the cheapest return ticket possible, and throw it away when it expired :-)

  6. One comment:

A work permit and a Visa is 2 different things.

If your work permit expire your Visa (If it is a business visa) will expire 2.

When this happens or the company cancel the work permit you will get a letter

that tell you to leave Thailand with in 7 days:-(

    I tried this.

What I did, was to extend my old NON-O for 1 year based of marriage.

and just let the company cancel my 2 year Business visa (BOI).

(I was quit surprise that I could just go back to my original NON-O visa and extend this without any

    problem.)

If you not have had a NON-O visa before i suggest to go outside Thailand and apply for a NON-O.

You can then when your new NON-O expire extend it because of marriage if your wife is still happily married :-)

    God luck

You are mixing up visas and extensions of stay from immigration.

A visa does not end when the job ends. Only extensions of stay end when the job does.

The OP will be able to change the reason for his extension of stay based upon working to one based upon marriage.

No extension of stay requires a particular category of non immigrant visa entry. All that is required is a non immigrant visa.

    I am aware of this.

My 2 Year business visa was connected to the company (BOI) so when the work permit expired

    So did the visa.

I could not use the business visa at my new company.

Properly because the new company is not BOI promoted.

  8. Maybe someone here can give me an advice:

I started renewing my visa using documentation for income > 40K (Married to Thai):

Should I in the future have 1 bankbook where I receive my salary and only use this book

    for receiving salary ?

After receiving the salary I will transfer the money to my Spence account.

Then it would be easy for immigration to see the salary transactions, when I in 1 year from now

will apply for PR or Thai Citizenship.

Or does this matter at all?

    wai.gif

What is the source of your income? Are you legally working here with a work permit or are you proving foreign income by way of a letter from your embassy?

Showing money coming into a Thai bank account is the best backup proof for the letter from your embassy if immigration was to ask for it.

Unless you are working here with a work permit and paying taxes you will never qualify for PR or citizenship unless the law and/or the regulations are changed.

    Thanx for the Reply.

Yes I am legally working here. I have legal Work permit and all my income is (from working in Thailand) being Taxed and put in to my Bank account in Kasikorn bank.

According to my attorney I can apply for PR or Citizenship in 1 year from now so I am just preparing :-)

But I think If i later show a bankbook to immigration with a mix of salary transaction and many ATM retrievals, immigration might get a little confused :-)

You should apply for citizenship. No need for PR.

Your tax payments are what you will use to prove your income for citizenship or PR.

They will not want to see a bank book.

    Thanx

    I Appriciate it :-)

  11. Although unrelated to this but seemingly in the same vein I am about to apply for a renewal of my Retirement Visa based on the 65,000 baht a month criteria proved by a Statement signed by the Australian Embassy (and a letter from my pensions fund if necessary, but which I've never had to show in the 6 years I've been doing this).

I bring in money as I need it and do spend a lot on Australian bank credit cards but I never have anything near 800,000 baht in my Thai bank account. I will have the bank letter and bank book.

I know the procedure and documents backwards but I would be grateful for any updates as I will have only 2 days to get things sorted before leaving for an extended stay overseas (on a new passport! - oh yes, it's all happening!)

Has anyone had any problems renewing their visa in this way at the temporary Immigration posts in Bangkok?

    Thanks.

No problems for me except a very long queue. :-)

    Answer : Alien having Thai wife could stay in Thailand under the reason of staying with his Thai wife. The requirements and documentations are as follows;

    • Foreign husband must obtain “Non-Immigrant visa”
    • Having any proof of relationship; Mariage Certificate,Birth certificate of their children(if any) etc.
    • Having evidences of nationality of his Thai wife; Thai ID card, her household registration Book.
    • Having relationship with Thai wife de jure and de facto; Family picture, map of the applicant’s residence in Thailand.
    • Having evidences of definite financial status of foreign husband by showing average income not less than 40,000 Baht per month or having money in the Thai Bank account of not less than 400,000 Baht which must be held consecutively not shorter than two months.

Documents supporting financial status of foreign husband as mentioned

    above are as follows:

For foreign husband working in Thailand

    • Work Permit
    • Letter from his employer verified employment and salary in details.(monthly salary must not be less than 40,000 Baht)
    • Evidences of payment of annual income tax with receipt (Por Ngor Dor 1 of latest three months and Por Ngor Dor 91 of the previous year)

      OR

5.2 In case of having money in the bank account (Fix/Saving Deposit) of any bank in Thailand

      - The updated bank passbook on the date of application submission showing his account of not less than 400,000 Baht which has been deposited and consecutively held of such amount for 2 months

      - Letter from the bank certified that account.

      OR

5.3 In case of foreign husband having any other income (not working in Thailand) such as pension, social welfare etc.

      - Letter from the applicant’s Embassy consulate in Bangkok verified his monthly pension or other income not less than 40,000 Baht per month

An affidavit confirming the alien’s status with a Thai national

I also had to sent in company registration papers signed by my accountant and also document that my company actually have an income.

Beside that immigration was most help full :-)

  13. Actually the minimum salery for farang was changed a couple of years ago to be 50k.

I just extended my Non "O" and it is a lot of paperwork before immigration accept your income :-(

(but only difficult the first time:-)

The 50k salary requirement is for getting extensions of stay based upon working.under clause 2.1 of the police order. That has been the same for about 10 years now.

You did not extend you non-o you extended your permit to stay,

According to immigration in Bkk, I get an extention of my Non"o" based on marriage, but call it what you want. :-)
