China denies everything on all topics (the floods in China are a good example), regardless of anything... all a lie on everything. You can't believe anything from those oppressive CCP commies... and if you say anything in China, then it's scrubbed and those posting arrested. Basically, if they shut something down and erase it on the internet, plus arrest everyone who dares to say anthing about anything, then it didn't happen and let's carry on as normal.

Sounds just like the UK under Stormer...

  2. I'd go for a Honda Rebel 500, but you need to spend a bit more cash and get a custom seat, rack and panniers as the honda ones look terrible.

Plenty fast enough, okay on moderate dirt tracks, obviously not anything seriously off road.

Most parts are the same as CB500's so easy to get, and you get Honda reliability to start with...

Chiang Rai, some 10 years ago had a large programme of constructing drainage channels, within the city along with a major dam just downstream of the city to control water drainage.

Last year the city suffered catastrophic flooding.

The drainage channels have for several years been, and remain, clogged with vegetation. Of the 11 "gates" on the dam, only 3 work. They have brought mobile cranes in in an attempt to get some of the rest open.

Maintaining the dam and clearing the channels...

If there is a Thai word for maintenance, it doesn't get used much...

Great. All the branches I used to go to are closed. Three of them. And most of the ATMs have been jerked out, too. One SCB ATM in a 4km radius, where there used to five.  Some move, making your customers need to rely on Bangkok Bank's ATM. Sick and tired of being frog marched into using that damn phone app.

I've spent the last week in and out of my local branch trying to get their app to work, no good at all, just a waste of time for all concerned...

Schools are 100x worse in Thailand.   Pollution, has to be at least 10x worse.   Language barrier might be hard on the kids.   House, yea, burn the only real asset they have?  I'm sure the retirement fund will be gone as well.   90% of jobs are not available.   What visa is he going to get?   This sound like some fake Disney story but will end up in a divorce, kids will go back home, future destroyed, money gone, and their 15 minutes of fame won't result in a payout.   Unless this guy has about 50 million baht, there's 0% this works out 10 years from now.  Sure, they can "live" for maybe five years doing nothing...but this is an idiotic move.  I've never seen anyone come to Thailand and make more than in America.   Salaries in America are almost 10x more.

He's from Mansfield, not America. The kids will, quite possibly be the only white faces at the local school, and making anything close to a decent living will be a huge struggle.

The weather in that part of the UK is grim pretty well all year round and so is suburbia, around there...

    Yes, maybe.

An indicator of uncertainty how it's going on economically in particular might be the fact that the hype for motorhomes in Europe has stopped. In Many factories there are more than 15.000 motorhomes waiting for buyers. In vain. People keep their money and might not spend.

Could it be that people are finally realising that motorhomes are extremely overpriced in Europe?

    Yes, possible scenario.

And one might even assume that the guy did it on purpose to provoke the bar owner into assaulting him to get the bar in trouble. He could literally be friends with a bar owner across the street.

You need to keep your wits about you. You never know who is out to get you.

I was walking down the street and spotted a Thai woman giving me the evil stinkeye and talking to her friends behind my back. I didn't do nothin' to her.

There's a lot of Troubled Men and Women out there who would get you if they could.

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean that they're not out to get you...
