Theres a handful of expats who meet in very specific places on different days of the week, the nightbox on Friday & Saturday nights & an expensive western style bar called the Picking Cowboy on the other side of the road from it. Theres also a younger crowd of often changing English teachers who you might find in the same places on the weekend. The golf club is also quite popular amongst the older expat group, but as I'm not interested in having "a good walk spoilt" I don't know when a likely time to meet them there would be.
I myself find, that the lack of much of an expats scene is a big part of the charm of the place, a consequence of which is a very friendly Thai population, there are a lot of Thai style bars/nightspots etc.

The combination of yabba & Lao khao plus the fragile Thai ego equals explosive violence at the least excuse, You see this all over the country particularly at any bar/party post about 11 30PM

Maybe for the first time in history the Thai Government will issue an actual factual statement.
ie This scheme will start on this date
It will run between these dates
If successful it will be extended for the following dates
It covers the following visas
it would make a change because it seems that every time they announce anything it prompts pages and pages of debate on what they actually mean.It also left to individual officials to interpret the rules as they see fit.
There is no black or white in Thailand everything is grey
This is deliberate to allow room for all the corruption...

Simple. If you want to stay alive then stay out of big bars with lots of Thai men.
Especially after midnight once the whiskey has had a chance to kick in on top of the Yabba.....

but he just cant pick up on the tones at all,
he dont even hear them, its actually worse than that,
he does not hear them when i say exactly where it is and when i
pronounce it particularly.
he also cant pronounce the sounds here
I've been here for 8 years & spent 5 of them completely immersed in Thai in a small village with my wife, I'm exactly the same, yes I can speak very basic Thai, can count, ask for things etc. but my ears can't pick up the tonal differences, & a lot of the time Thais don't understand my basic Thai because I don't get the tones right. While I do slowly learn more Thai, I can understand a lot more than I can speak & can't see me ever being abled to speak it even close to fluently because of the tones, & of course getting older doesn't help either...

Koh Samui and Koh Phangan are regarded as the most expensive places to live in Thailand you can pay upwards of 150 baht for a meal that would cost 40/50 baht in other parts of the country , gasoline and diesel is more expensive as for furniture it’s double what you would pay in Bangkok but saying all that there are plenty of Thais who drive in nice cars how they manage I don’t know.
No they're not... Phuket & the Andaman sea coast, Khao Lak area are both a lot more expensive than Samui or Phangan, go take a look.....
Where are you from ?
