I think the key is, Colin, nothing worth nicking, a couple of TV's, PC's and not a lot else apart from clothes & household appliances, and all the outlaws know this....

Have a house in the middle of a small, poor Isaan village. 200 odd people of whom 90% are relations. have an Isaan looking house with farang features on the inside, that I designed and built. don't really have much worth nicking, never locked, dogs and relatives all around, safe as houses....

Yep, that baby story had me in tears as well. As for the big motorbike rubbish, as a rider of a BMW 650 here, riding a bigger m/bike is FAR safer if you are an experienced rider, which of course the majority of Thai BB riders aren't. The vast majority of accidents are on small m/bikes, but these are mostly unimportant people as far as the powers that be are concerned, unlike big bikes which tend to be ridden by Thais with money, which suddenly means that they care about it... Pathetic doesn't begin to describe it, but TIT...

I'm depressed, what do I do?
I know, I'll go and take pointless orders and learn how to kill people. Why didn't I think of it before?
That'll sort me out.....

Yes, I've wasted around AUD2000 on 4 sets of spectacles over the last 3 years. FIL & MIL - broken, uncomfortable, don't wear. B/F - doesn't wear. 10-year-old child with major sight difficulties - glasses bought after careful testing by opthalmologist at private hospital - broken/doesn't wear.
Rule of the House: No more glasses for anyone, no matter the need, other than me.
What I worked out with glasses was, work out what your prescription is, and then buy the 100 Bht or less pairs from markets, malls etc. they last anything from 2 weeks to six months or more depending on luck, but when they break, just buy another. Or, thinking a bit, buy 2 at at a time so you always have one spare. you end up paying less than 500 Bht a year on average which is ok...

My number one gripe is door handles, doesn't seem to matter what price you pay for one, within 2 years the innards shear off and you have to smash it out with a hammer and screwdriver and buy another. I was a builder back in the UK and I can't remember ever having a problem with a door lock/handle, here they don't seem to last 5 minutes however much you pay for them...

Can't do that, it'd divert too much funds from needy pockets...

The Chinese do a cheap tablet if you buy in bulk! It's been tried and proven!
And if they last 3 months before breaking you'd be very lucky...

I find it amazing, they were able to build temples to last centuries, make them very intricate and precise, but cannot excavate and build a road or footpath to last more than a few years without major defects.
A combination of corruption and jobs for the boys. By the time x% of the budget has been pocketed by various officials along the chain there's only enough left for, not enough sub standard materials. And if you don't build or fix it properly you then get endless employment down the line repairing it...

Any ambulance on the islands automatically take farangs to that, private hospital, they get a nice commission...

Wonder why only half was covered by insurance?
At least they had taken out insurance for the trip
Probably because the insurance co. realise what a ripoff that particular hospital chain is.
Also I thought it was illegal even by Thai law for hospitals to hold your passports to ransom???

China should not be in charge of any construction plans. If you go on liveleak, it’s plagued with thousands of videos showing shotty work and buildings collapsing/stuff falling, buildings built with the cheapest materials they can find.
Sounds just like Thai building then...

Not sure if there is now a time/age limit on registering them as a descendant of a British Citizen (if as reported he is Irish) but if as reported he has been in Thailand for 11 years they are most probably going to be aged under 10.
And again if he is Irish then what is the Irish law on this?
Even if he can get them a UK passport the UK will never allow him to bring his Thai wife with him unless he's earning a serious amount of money, thanks to the May bot back in 2012, forget human rights for families, you only get them if you're rich...

Always amazes me when they publish stuff like these posters or leaflets for the "aliens" benefit, that they expect the so called "aliens" to be able to understand Thai, instead of translating it into English which everyone can understand or translate easily.
It must be less than 1% of the worlds population who can read Thai with it's own specific alphabet.
Or maybe they do this deliberately so that they can just make the rules up as they go along....

That doesn't need much comment
It is the false circus side that exists here that prompts what you perceive as negative comments that is brought to attention constantly.
Thailand has some very big problems. One of them is the refusal to accept what is wrong. Instead of accepting that and doing something about it, smoke and mirrors get put up everywhere. Ministers for This and That. Daily propaganda by the "leaders" telling everybody how good it is when it is NOT.
You're a Thai person who has joined a group specifically for farang. We think and speak differently due to our up-bringing in different parts of the world. We are an INTERNATIONAL community - trying to tell Thailand what is wrong - - - -
Guess what....
They won't listen...
