" Surely, it's not illegal to leave France?"

Are they even IN France legally ?

Something the French never seem to address.

There must be 100s of illegal immigrants squatting near the Channel coast, who seem to be invisible to  French immigration  officials.

Many French people must be rather surprised that people actually pay good money to escape their wonderful country.

How many 33 year old Chinese males have that much coin to spend outside of China without there being  risk of nefarious activity.

I would say that he was likely paying of dirty RTP cops and either the payments stopped or he got caught by someone outside of his sphere of influence.

How many? ....Many.      Just happen to be sons or sons of sons of 'certain' families.

  3. It is extremely unlikely that any person in China would dare to make any public statement without the tacit approval of the CCP.

I am wondering if this announcement is part of the insistent CCP narrative that Covid originated from some person eating bats, or MORE LIKELY, introduced by some foreign agency to damage China's unquestionably high reputation.

It must NEVER be attributed to a leak from the Virus Research Lab, where they do extensive research on ..... bats,    and which just happens to be located in the city where it all started.

Mere speculation on my part, of course.

  4. There have been comments here to the effect that China was able to halt Covid in 77 days.  Sadly, this is far from the truth. There are ongoing outbursts of Covid in many of China's provinces, but the official News Agencies have been instructed to censor all reports of them.  I receive frequent messages on WeChat (using VPN to evade censorship) about new Covid outbreaks.  However, authorities are at least giving these localised outbreaks rapid attention and essential treatment.

To think that anyone or any one country can eliminate the Covid virus is to misunderstand the nature of viruses.  This position may be reached at some far distant date, as a result of worldwide collaboration, but until then,  the virus is alive and well.

The market dictates the price of rubber not the Thai government..

The world price of rubber is about the same as it was in 2005 and 1995, although there have been significant spikes in between.   Increase is use of plastics is a major factor.

    https://www.indexmundi.com/commodities/?commodity=rubber&months=300

If the Government subsidise one product, there would be demands from growers of other produce for similar treatment

  6. Self promotion may be part of the reason for the public pronouncement, but it's main purpose is as public warning to discourage others who may be tempted to break the Law.

The average Thai citizen will not take any notice of this because it doesn't apply to them (maybe they would not take any notice of police warnings even in situations when it might apply !).

These events are staged for the benefit of those (including TV readers) who might be or have been tempted to "forget" their Visa terms.

It's the Immigration Police doing their job, but in a manner which maybe different from the practise in other countries.

Good work, every piece of string has two ends !

What may appear to be a single piece of string, was in fact, many pieces of string knotted together !   Many of the knots are know to the authorities, but there seems to be little co-operative effort to "loosening" these knots!.

Knotty problems exist in Vietnam, China, Russia, Italy, France, UK.

    Agree, good work so far.

Pathetic bit is silence of UK and USA "leaders" looking away and whistling Dixie or Col Bogey's march

So,  what would be an effective action from USA or/and UK ?   The opposite of silence might be noise - but shouting from the sidelines wont change the situation.  The USA is trying trade sanctions but that is a 'two-edged sword'.    Very few disputes are resolved by raised voices.

Mao took control on October 1st, 1949,  so the upcoming 70th anniversary will not be celebrated with any show of 'weakness' on the part of the current Chinese leaders.

  9. The largest foreign supplier to UK is France and the  French production is mainly Nuclear and Hydro, so is low carbon intensity.   Germany has been and is still using 'dirty' coal (lignite) although it is planned to phase out.   The German phasing out of coal and nuclear is causing concern for the continuity of  electricity supply within the relatively short time frame that is proposed.
