  1. Using my laptop (ACER Aspire 1) in Nonthaburi. Got a free SIM card and 18 months free air-time from True Move from an Acer promotion. Not sure if it's 3G but it connects (to Edge) and works OK.

  2. I have decided to digitize all my old photos and wonder if there is a bulk scanning service in Thailand such as the one offered by www.scanmyphotos.com in the States. You send them your photos and they scan them and then send back the originals along with digitial copies. Anyone got any ideas of such a service in Thailand?

  3. I went to Cabinet last week and was pretty impressed. They can interior design my condo and I may even buy some furniture from them, even though most of it is rubber wood. I will try Siam Old Teak as well.

Does any anyone know of a decent interior design company in Hua Hin?

  4. Slightly off the original subject, can we play PS2 on-line from Thailand with fake games using a chipped PS2? Or how about an original game using a chipped PS2? I have a network adaptor and successfully connected my PS2 to my ISP ( True ADSL). However, I still can't play any games on-line. This is because either my PS2 is chipped and somehow this is detected, or my ADLS router (D-Link) has a problem connecting PS2 on-line (I know the D-Link firmware has had problems in the past with PS2 on-line). Any help would be much appreciated.

  5. My son dropped his Ipod video and the screen is broken. Does anyone know of a place which can replace the screen? I phoned the Mac Center in Yannawa but they said they can't replace it. Surely a shop in Panthip or Fortune Town can do the job. Any help would be much appreciated. My son is pretty down at the moment.

  6. Before Skype, I used to use Netphone and Dialpad, with average results. After downloading Skype, I cancelled both services. Skype is brilliant for PC to PC but Skype Out was crap when I first tried to use it last year. Haven't tried it since but will give it a try soon - my account still has some credit left. If I want to call a land line from Thailand, I use the 009 international access number rather than 001. The 009 call costs about Bt6/minute to the UK, which doesn't break the bank.

  7. I have had the True Bt1,230 per month for 18 months and it has been fine. However, today I got redirected to a True site and was asked to register a user name and password. I did as requested and now I can't use my True ADSL at all. Luckily, my neighbour has an unprotected wireless network that I use when True goes wrong. No doubt in the next few days, everyone will have the same problem with True and they'll sort it out - useless idiots - no idea of customer service.

Oh, by the way, don't bother trying to call their customers services. I have never succeeded in talking to anyone.

  8. I'm lucky enough to own a car and therefore am not forced to take public transport. Most people don't own a car and have to rely on the dubious driving skills of someone who drives for hours at a time, hence the carnage on the roads.

The Bangkok-Chonburi motorway is one of the worst roads for deaths because of the high speed limit. It's not a bad road, but the locals have little experience at driving at such high speeds.

With regards to driving laws, driving licences, police etc., as with most developing countries, the law doesn't work and deaths inevitably occur. Such countries are usually poor and corrupt - Indonesia, Philippines, Nigeria, South America etc, etc. There has to be a political will to change this, but the politicians are corrupt and are interested in keeping the status quo.

I know one person who has died in a car accident in my home country. In Thailand, I have many friends/acquaintances who have lost friends and family on the roads. Many girls resort to working in bars after their husbands have been killed in a road accident.

  9. I want to go online and play some games using my ps2 (new model) but it appears that I need a network disk.  I never received one with my PS2 and have had no luck finding one online so far.  Can anyone point me in the right direction

    Cheers

    JAF

PS I would prefer to download it if possible as I am not situated in BKK

I think you have to buy a Network Adapter which you attach to the back of your PS2. The adapter comes with a disc that allows you to set up your PS2 with your ISP settings so that you can play on-line. I did all this but have still failed to play on-line. I believe it's because I have a D-LINK wireless router. However, the problem has apparently been resolved with the new Firmware that is now available. I'm not brave enough to download the new Firmware because I'm scared I may screw up my Internet connection and then I would really be stuffed.

  10. Dont know anywhere in Nonthaburi but one of the best Jap import servicing garages are Power & Performance on SriNakarin Rd (T)01-818-1836.2 guys that run the place are cool and speak perfect English and Ive always taken my cars there for servicing/tuning.They have one of the top japanese tuners come over to BKK for a few days every few months to tune the drag cars.

The other garage is Wins Tuning Shop@ Buddy, they specialize in Skylines,Silvias,Evos etc and have a good understanding of Jap imports.(T)02-805-6767.

SEC are good at getting the cars into BKK,but not good at keeping the performance cars runnning, and a new MR-S engine isnt cheap!

    Good luck,

    Sky.

    Sky,

Thanks for the info. Any idea about prices for a basic service?

  11. Anybody know where I can get a video sender/receiver in BKK?

Got 2 TV's and want to be able to watch UBC/DVD in the bedroom, without investing in a second decoder/DVD player!!!!!

Never seen a video sender for sale in BKK. I bought one from Ebay in the UK and it works fine. I can also change channel from the 2nd TV using the UBC remote. This is done via an IR feed from the sender. Pretty nifty actually.

  12. First check if your PC has a PCI Express or AGP slot

If it is PCI then without doubt the very best card to get is the Asus Extreme N7800 GTX TOP. It is based on the Nvidea 7800 but cooled and overclocked at the factory.

I got mine from Pantip just last week and am amazed at the difference in speed from my last card (ATI X700). Am now ready for Fear, B&W 2 and HL2 HDR games! Bit expensive at 26k though

Bt26K is too much. Any other decent VGA cards under Bt7K?

  13. Last weekend I bought my son a new (Belta) computer with a brill 19" LCD monitor. He tried to play Battlestation 2 but can't because the video card is not the correct spec. Can anyone recommend the best VGA card for gaming (Nvidia GForce) and the approximate cost.

  14. Why delay if your line is activated?

    Thanks again for the input.

Well, first I wanted to tried to make that old modem to work with True, but I guess I'm starting to get stuck after some experiments.

Second, so many brands/models in the market, I just want to make sure that I will buy the good one with no/least problems.

BTW, just got an info for reseller of Billion products:
