Eating breakfast at a hotel this morning. No Chinese screaming across the dining area, no spitting, no kids touching everything in the buffet and no smoking in no-smoking areas. Pure bliss!!!!!

Agreed. At Suvarnabhumi airport picking up sister....nice and quiet, easy to park, no Chinese tour groups. God I love these health scares. I'm off to Oz i April...hopefully the ban on Chinese tourists will still be in place.

  2. I have mounted a taser on my bike to scare dogs away. The sound is enough to frighten them (and humans!). You can buy one from Lazarda.

  3. It is now pretty difficult to get a job as a pilot in Thailand because there is just nowhere to park new planes should Thai carriers want to expand their fleets. Therefore, there is reduced demand for pilots. As had been mentioned above, airports are operating well above their capacities, and that includes the facility to park planes as well as accommodate increasing passenger numbers.

  4. Last week, my friend opened a BBL account in Hua Hin and deposited Bt1,000. His new bank book showed an initial deposit of Bt301 instead of Bt1,000. The bank had given him a Rabbit Card and very kindly charged him a joining fee = Bt100 + annual fee = Bt599. Total fee in 1st year = Bt699, hence the balance of Bt301 for an opening deposit of Bt1,000. My friend didn't know what cards were available and just accepted what the bank gave him. Pretty shoddy treatment by the bank and taking advantage of his lack of knowledge.

  5. I applied for PR in 2007 and got it in 2012. Gathering the initial paperwork was a bit of a chore, but after that, I just had to wait until I was accepted. My reason for applying for PR was that I thought it was becoming more and more for foreigners to stay here long term and when I retire (which I now have), I didn't want any hassle. Yes, I have to get a re-entry permit every year, but that's not too incovenient. I suppose I should apply for citizenship but I don't want to own land, so I won't bother.

  6. My son is a pilot with a low cost carrier in Thailand and is very impressed with the professionalism of the maintenance crew. Of course Thailand has its problems with a lack of qualified engineers, slipshod attitude to safety etc but the negativity expressed in this thread regarding airline maintenance is unfair.

  7. I had two refunds due (from 2017 and 2018). I have a pink ID card and tried to set up PromptPay for my SCB account. However, because my passport number (not my Thai ID number) was registered with SCB at the time the account was opened, I could not open a PromptPay account with SCB. So I opened a KTB account and a PromptPay account using my Thai ID. The account opening process was pretty quick. The refund from 2017 was manually credited to my account and the refund from 2018 was automatically credited.
