Even if for any reason the Amphoe 'forgot' to issue the certificate, or your wife misplaced it,

How many times, nothing to misplace - it was not an amendment.

She went to Isaan where her Mum was registered without her old ID, got a DNA test and a shiny brand new ID. Not sure maybe 10-15 years ago.

How this was actually achieved? I wasn’t there to tell you the fine details.

Would you like me to attach a picture of them - haha.

End of story, I’m dreaming to get a visa based on our marriage unless we can dig up her old ID and that’s not going to happen.

Now, was her name merely amended in the existing TB or did they issue a new TB?

It couldn’t have been an amendment. It would have been new.

Was this in Australia or Thailand

Thailand, just before she came to Australia.

Probably but we eventually gave up.

Curiosity, but by what name is she registered on a Tabien Baan, her aunt/uncle or her Mothers.

    Her mother’s.

OK this is the deal. As far as we know when she came to Australia in early 90’s there may have been issues with dual citizenship and at the time of getting a Thai passport her ID expired and it was cut up.

We spent many years trying to dig up her old ID information in Bangkok and they also “lost” her old Thai passport.

I understand it sounds highly irregular but there is absolutely zero link/s between her old and new ID.

Maybe a lawyer could give advice (although I doubt it) but think the simplest solution would be for me to stay here on visa based on retirement.

She would have been issued a 'certificate of name change' at that point, and probably not realising its importance not kept it safe.

    No, never.

As mentioned in the OP there is no link between her ID when married early 90’s and the ID with her mother’s surname and yes she did this after Auntie/Uncle passed away and after we married.

Didn’t want to get into exactly why there is no link (with no name change certificate) as it’s a saga 🙂

As-is because we can’t provide any evidence to link the 2 surnames I’m assuming we can’t go down the visa “based on marriage” route unless someone has a brilliant idea.

The list in that topic from the wall in CM IO is for the initial Non O if you entered TV or VE.

It is not for the 1-year permit of stay if you already obtained the Non O previously.

Sorry, just a list I found with the marriage certificate, I’m sure however the process to get a visa based on marriage will require it.

  6. 1 hour ago, Liquorice said:

She just needs to let the local Amphoe know she wants to take your surname.

They'll issue an official 'certificate of name change' as well as issuing a new ID card and changing her name in any Tabien Baan she's on.

Thanks, have been to the Amphoe and they want to see our marriage certificate to change her surname to mine and her surname on it doesn’t match her ID surname.

I suspect even if she changed it to my name on her ID the previous name will be in history and still not match our marriage certificate when I go for the visa based on marriage.

  7. With reference to the list above of documents required, I'm interested in the option of "extension by marriage" to stay here long term. I'm just putting this question out here but I think I know already the answer.

Background - married in Thailand, our marriage certificate (KorRor 3) in early 90's has my wife's Auntie/Uncle surname. She is an Australian citizen with my surname on Australian passport and the marriage was also registered at the Australian Embassy so it would be at the Australian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

Her Auntie/Uncle passed away and her current ID has the surname of her natural mother (DNA test) and there is no documentation to show this name change from her original ID.

Is there anything we could do to show we are the two on our original Thai marriage certificate?

I am registering my wife (Thai) as the owner of the house. I assumed my documents will go in the next stage when she does the actual TM30 - this is just registering an account on the system. Unless I'm wrong?

I was checking this TM30 online now as I should do it again for our trip here and just saw this thread

Had a look and one thing I noticed is I used all .jpg files, not .pdf. Maybe that's the problem.

Also, once the person has setup their details AND the house details, you are set to add "stays" to it.

When you first login the house should show as "Approved" and that's where you select ADD at the bottom, another pop-up and fill out the form and submit.

is that correct that i can do all of that and not have to get another tourist visa in another country?  WOW that would be great....thanks very much for letting me know if i have this correct...

Yes 100% correct, I'm doing this now in Phuket but only for 6 months.

    1. 2 months + 1 month extension*

    2. Off to Penang** for a few days

    3. 2 months + 1 month extension

    * Extension was easy enough (just a bit of push and shove with Russians haha) but got copies of the form so I can fill it in beforehand next time.

** Penang the closest/cheapest option plus have never been there. Georgetown looks like it might be interesting. Also, for an Aussie, just have to fill online your intension to stay Malaysia. I believe you can stay for 90 days.

As someone mentioned a border crossing could be cheaper but from Phuket it seemed too difficult.

Hi, what did you end up doing about this? My wife and I are in the same situation about this. I was told that for a name change all that is required is the Thai ID Card and house book. Only difference between us and you is that we have no children so we don't need permission from anyone. We mostly want to do this so my wife can get a Thai passport with the same as her Australian passport name (mine). Thanks.

Hi, what did you end up doing too? We have no children either

Be very interested if you needed any other documents other than Thai ID Card and house book.

Although, I bet it depends on the amphur office and person behind the counter.

Wife will probably go within the next week and find out.

  11. Just learned of this directive.

Wife's current ID has a different name and DOB to her Australian passport.

I understand it is easy to change Thai names so if we got her name changed on her ID to match her Australian passport any reason we couldn't make use of this directive?

Have read the directive and can't see anything about date of birth matching (it's one year wrong).

So I understand she can stay as long as she pleases here and just show Thai ID on departure? Sounds too good!

If the guy travels from Thailand to Australia or vice version and the passports do not match in exactly the same names, then each country will not official recognize that he has duel citizenship, meaning that he would require a visa to travel to Australian using his Thai passport or a visa to remain in Thailand on his Australian passport.

Names need to be the same but what about birth dates?

    Do they need to match?

Does Australian/Thai immigration really want to see the other countries passport?

Also, this comment re needing a visa if the names don’t match doesn’t make sense to me. If you enter Australia with an Australian passport why would you need a visa.

Just a comment here... I'm on rosuvastatin (Crestor 10mg) and this statin can be taken it at any time of the day.

Have tried taking it at night but often forgot or not home or whatever. Now I have a notification on my mobile to take it at 7am.

Like the op, my cardiologist in Australia said I could try going off the statin but GP's tests showed an increase after 3 months off it. Note I also have other issues like mild plaque plus LBBB.

I did not want to take it and looked at so much info about the subject. Hard decision with polarising views about statins but this info I decided I'd better take it, obviously with my doctors recommendation...

    No exception for the METV

Thanks Phillip, I just bit the bullet and took a couple of hours to decipher.

Ended up just registered myself (too hard for inlaws) and used passport as ID and I got a login.
Setup the address plus uploading inlaws ID and blue book.
Added myself and wife to it and got the approved/informed printout.

Done, annoying and an effort but suppose it won't be too hard in the future not I've done it once.

  16. Just arrived at the inlaws place Phuket and knew about this TM30 but not sure if we have to register. Note we need to extend the visa at the local office during our stay.

When applying for the METV, on the form you need to add the address you are staying, so does this exclude you from needed to do the TM30?

Asking here because to register for the TM30 it seems you need to be a business and we are only staying at the families place.

    Thanks

Trying to live 6 months in Oz and 6 months in Thailand is going to be a challenge/continuing headache "visa wise."

    Thanks Pib and others.

We won't have the income for the LTR visa but thought this O-X might be worth considering.

Will keep thinking for the next time but right now we have just got a METV. Would would be great is if this 90 visa exempt came in!

  18. (For retirement long stay: valid for 5 years)
    https://sydney.thaiembassy.org/en/publicservice/non-immigrant-visa-type-o-x

I'm interested in this visa (Sydney embassy) for my wife and I.

Reading through the requirements I'm not sure of a few things. Anyone know who has got this visa please...

Spouses of holders of O-X Visa will be considered for temporary stay under Category ‘O’ Visa if they do not qualify to apply for the O-X Visa themselves. A duly notarised marriage certificate must be provided as evidence.

Not sure about this part, would that be if the spouse doesn't have the $150K or some other requirement?
Would both my wife and I need $300K total?
Would this Category ‘O’ Visa mentioned, have the same validity of 5 years?

A certificate of health insurance issued by Thai insurance companies covering the entire period of stay in Thailand containing the detail of coverage as follows; In-house patients of not less than THB 400,000/policy year, as for out-patients, not less than THB 40,000/policy year. You are requested to obtain health insurance for at least 1 year.

Firstly it requires health insurance for the "entire period of stay" then "You are requested to obtain health insurance for at least 1 year". We are interested in roughly 6 months in Thailand and 6 months in Sydney. I get "free" 6 months travel insurance and I want to use that as much as possible.

For this 5 year visa, can we just pay the first 12 months health insurance to obtain the visa?

    Thanks.

Don't really understand your question as the form asks for details of first entry/departure and second entry/departure so you have to state both departure dates.

I was ignoring the second entry for simplicity as it says, "For double - entries visas only".
There is another visa called exactly that (Double entries) so was ignoring it 😄
