Thanks for info and sorry to be pedantic, but what amount do they want to see in my UK bank and for how long? I get a second pension just before Xmas, that will give me +65k monthly total income but the visa will be required 2 months before that starts (30th Sept). I do have funds 'sitting' in my UK account. I'm 66 next birthday and had a 'B' visa for the last 11 years. -

For an old guy, Tawandeang might be too loud, with flashing laser lights too. I believe what you want, you will not find in Surin. Sure, there are some busy Thai music bars but the days of Gogo bars, are long gone. I had a pub-crawl around there 10days ago. Take him to Pattaya!

Its very easy when on your own motorbike. Ive done it and intend to do it again later this year. Living in or around Surin I found Chong Chom border to be very easy. Times when I didn't use my motorbike, I always parked-up my car at the border and got a taxi to SR/Ankor as its only about 1/ 1.5 hrs drive. Don't forget to get a re-entry stamp before you go!!!!! -
One road all the way (Highway 24). Sometimes it's good to be not too near to the outlaws!

Have you considered somewhere around Ubon, as that's not too far from Sangkha and lots more amenities than other alternatives? They even have condo's that a foreigner can buy/own outright.

There was real-estate companies in Surin but unsure they still exist. Suggest you tour the area to find where you would like to live, then pop into the local Mom-n-pop shops, who usually seem to know whats going on in their area. May be better to get a Thai to do the enquiring as sometimes the infamous "farang prices" come to play.

Glad the kids OK. I know a lot of people living on less than 17k a month, so wonder if the addiction that you mentioned, is the root cause of the problem? Its a common problem in Isaan. I used to live in a village near to the Surin to Prasat (Chon Chom) road and remember seeing all the silver minibuses shipping Thais to the casino's 24/7.
