  1. Yesterday I did my first ever 90 day address report at a different Immigration office with a 'new' OA retirement visa. Everything was boringly ok just like all the previous years on a marriage extention, but the Immigration Officer made an interesting and confusing comment to my girlfriend.

He could see from P/P stamps that I had been married previously and that I am now in rented accomodation locally. He said to her that as long as I am 52 or over (NOT 50) and in rented accomodation and married, He can arrange for me NOT to do 90 day reports.

Does anyone know about this or was it just yet another Immigration fairy story?

    Thanks Guys.

p.s. I have NOT taken this as a reason to get married! 555

  2. on less than 20k a month is not living its just existing .... you will exist only until a real emergency arises .....

I have been doing just that for over 14 years; living that is, not just existing. Please explain what a "real emergency" is?

Pretty obvious really, its one that involves a large unexpected cash outlay. Medical or motor accident problems are commonplace for instance, especially when alcohol is involved.

i would suggest 20k is not only well below the Immigration requirements but VERY low to live on. 35k is 'do-able' I would suggest

  3. Why not try surin lots of expat farang places if you want some advice or a chat loads of clubs discos nightclubs all within walking distance of town (try tantawan deeng nightclub for meeting girls you can't fail in there) lots of Khmer culture dance and stuff only 50 odd km from Cambodian border worth a few days

Friendly locals who all want a Husband/House/ Honda Jazz/ 150cc scooter/iphone5 all within the first 5 minutes. Also have no idea of the price of P2P in other part of LOS.

  4. I still have a yellow book that was obtained when I was married and living in the house that i paid for. Now living in a different town in rented accomodation and i was wondering if the same book can be altered to my current address or is no longer acceptable now I have moved and i would have to start the whole rigmarole again to get a new book.

    Thanks

  5. Anyone know where to stay in thatum surin? or have any info on the area

I'v been offered a job there, if i can find a swimming pool there i would be happy

You will save a fortune as there is not much there.Maybe a couple of 7/11's and one small Tesco express store.

    Its Life Jim, but.........

Swimming Pool is called The Moon River ! LOL!

  6. I've been offered a demo for around 700,000 cash. Tempted!

I guess it depends on a few things like how quick do you need a car,

how long you want to keep it for etc etc.

Do you really like the cars or just the price?

Personally, I couldn't/wouldn't buy the old model after seeing the new

ones. Especially with the 1.6's starting at 759 000 in Jan 2013.

Still, it's a good car for that price.

    Regards

    Will

But the new one has been an old model for 2 years in the UK hasn't it! LOL!

I do understand your thoughts but I do like the model and a 2 litre engine too. Most UK ralIy schools use these in unaltered roadgoing form, so I guess they can not be too bad. I might be proved wrong but a 1.6 Focus might be gutless ???? We will have to wait and see.

I have never bought a car whilst thinking about resale, just suitability to my needs at that point in time. 1.6 Fiesta is a great car but as it will be our only mode of transport, I feel we need something a little bigger.

Anyways, there are no right or wrongs, just that is my personal thoughts on the matter.

  7. IN surin, I would recommend the majestic, a stones throw from bus stop, falang /thai bars restaurants, good rooms, and a bigpool.

    regards songhklasidthumbsup.gifthumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif

P.S. I had 1 of the best khou tom moo breakfast soups across from bus station I have tasted in thailand, shame I had to leave half to catch bus.

and if you stay in any of their 3 locations you can use the Hotel pool

  8. Binnsy,

I can certainly recommend this estate agent but then i did set up the website!

Seriously though they are a very reputable firm.

Whens it due to be finished? LOL!

Without trying to sound like Judge Judy and Executioner, there are no indications about history.experience or legal qualifications but I suppose thats up to your customer, more than you.

  9. Why not come over here, as there is nothing better than first hand research. Every link in the chain will make you earn less and be even more vunerable to the excessive corruption in Thailand.

Sorry to sound so negative but I felt it must be said if you want to turn an idea (dream) into reality. Leg work is needed.

Maybe time to repeat the old Thai classic......

If you want to make a small fortune in Thailand, start with a big one!

  10. Le Bien has a nice restaurant but is out of town on the Buriram road. Majestic Hotel is central and also has B&B plus pool. If you are not to worried about B&B then the majestic Twin or Appartments are good too (also central located). ALL under 1000b a night. There is loads of info on the web about Surin as there are quite an active expat base/websites.

If you dont mind being a 20 minute ride out of town 'Ryans Resort' in Prasat has good reviews too.

  11. Yes, it certainly does look good but a few reports from europe (cars been out there 2 years) indicated that the Audio system looks better than it performs. With

this shapely design, it must be hard to change.

Sorry to sound negative, its not my intention and this is a great car but is it worth 200,000b more than the outgoing model, am not convinced???

  12. Thanks for the reply Eezergood, I apreciate the explanation as it a large amount of money we are investing in 4 wheels.

It is strange because my American friend used to comment how economical his Focus was but maybe he was comparing it to some 'Yank Tank'?

I just wonder if you investigated the same Focuss as in Thailand as I believe none have sunroofs? Maybe the reports were about US or European cars????

  13. Did a bit more research & the feedback from the old focus is somewhat worrying -

What negative feedback did you discover eezergood?

It would be helpful to know because I will probably be buying a Focus Sport+

My friend has been well pleased with his, here in Thailand.

    Thanks

  14. Just seen 2 truckloads of new Focuses hurtling thru Isaan. I am also considering going for the new 'older' model as many of the gizmo's like park assist seem too much like an unnecessary gimick to me.

Sure they have bolted on extra's to sell the 'old' version but many road report indicate that its a good car.

Disregarded the Fiesta 1.6 Ultimate for the same reasons as new focus plus its just too small inside too.
