  1. Have you got any idea how long it takes for police clearence checks to be done in Thailand? :o

We went straight from the embassy to the Police Headquaters after submitting application and money and documentation. My then fiance (now wife) talked to a plain clothes cop and both of them kept looking over at me whilst I was sitting in the waiting area. He didn't ask for any extra money but my wife knew it was common practice to give extra if you want something done quickly.

We picked up the police check in 4 days. Otherwise it could have taken 4 weeks. We got the medical check done the same day and the hospital sent the results straight to the embassey.

We got a phone call 1 week after application and was given an interview date of 4 weeks later. I was back in Australia at the time of interview and my wife was given a 2 hour interview. 2 weeks after that she got a phone call to pick up her visa. :D

The biggest hassle for us was getting the police check from Taiwan where my wife had worked for 3 years previously. Nigh on near impossble. Only got it because someone that I knew had some contacts there.

    Hope that helps :D

  2. Why give someone a new car when she wasn't happy with the first one. From what I hear she smahed the car herself out of frustration that it kept breaking down. In my experience, I can tell you that some people are never satisfied.

My work involves me with customer relations for Honda. I know of many real life situations and I can tell you the majority of people don't have a concern with the product but the service they get from dealerships, may it be presales, aftersales, service.

This person probably got to the end of their tether and snapped out of frustration. I can't blame her. If I bought a new car and it didn't work I would be very angry as well.

From what I hear, Honda Thailand didn't handle it in the best manner, because if it gets to this stage then they have failed. There are people that request ridiculous amounts of goodies from Honda if something goes wrong and in the odd occasion people actually ask for new cars. Honda has to deal with each case individually and check the validity of each claim. Usually, and I do use the word usually, there is a fault on Honda's part and the customer is looked after. However, on some occasions there is no fault of Honda but the customer goes off their rockers abusing Honda staff. Honda must hold its ground here otherwise it would be a free for all.

It looks like Honda Thailand was trying to hold its ground here but this lady took it to another level, involved the media and made Honda Thailand look bad. Honda's number one goal is Customer Satisfaction. That comes from the GM in Japan. We all know it and are trying to achieve it. I can tell you, every other manufacturer will have similar stories as this lady who smashed her car.

So keep buying those Honda's won't you :D

I hope someone else from Honda reads this and I get a promotion for backing them up!!!!! :o

  3. I'm quite interested in mythology. It represents quite a bit about different cultures.

England has its dragons and dragon slayers.

    Australian Aboriginals have their Dreamtime

Greeks have their Tragedies... and so on... there are so much more that I don't know of

Some can be seen to be based on fact while others seem to be stories made up to explain why thing are the way they are. (I'm not judging any culture's myths)

Does Thailand have a mythological period? Stories that reflect Thailands history?

I've seen some mention of Nok Hasadee (Elephant with a birds body) that eats red meat only. Sua Peek (Tiger and Peacock).

Are there stories that relate to these mythological animals that someone can point me to?

  4. My wife is scared of ghosts as well. She says most of them have names as I have seen in another thread.

However, she can't name the ghost that emerges from under the dooner after a big night out. I know one is there because it fills the air but takes no form.

Anyone out there know its name? :o

  5. I'm from the happy suburb of Preston, Melbourne. :o

Didn't do much yesterday. Just enjoyed being Australian. :D

Too hot anyway. The sun down south burns a lot more than up north. Something to do with the thin ozone layer. Not the same as Thailand. I can walk around with no hat on for most of the day in Thailand but couldn't do that in Melbourne for more than 30 minutes. Follicly challenged.

Hope everyone in Thailand and Australia had a great day. :D

"That bi#ch is huge" - Duece Bigalow

  7. My posting of this topic is to better understand Thai culture :D . I don't think I ever questioned it :o .

One day I would like to live in the LOS and getting to know as much as I can beforehand would only be of a benefit. Four visits as a tourist doesn't qualify me to know anything about LOS, beliefs, culture, economy etc etc...

As a westerner, and being bought up with Christian beliefs does not mean my mind is closed off to all other cultures. In fact, I try to understand, and I accept all cultures and try not to judge any of them. Whether I adopt any of these cultural aspects would solely be up to me to make me the person who I am.

Being bought up with Christian beliefs doesn't neccessarily mean I adopt any of these beliefs either. In fact I would call myself a healthy sceptic open to anything.

One day I might take up meditation so I too can read the "busy minds full of thinking" people and know what they are thinking. Obviously, Pandit35 you have pidgeon holed me and most other westerners. I would be happy to read anything that you post regarding Thai culture and get your perspective on it and I was interested in what you had to say in your post. However, it is only one perspective. That is why I posted this topic on TV. To get many perspectives. Don't try to put all westerners in one basket. Others have open minds as well.

Show me what ya got :D

  8. My wife has been talking about stories she has read from Thai newspapers about Thai people seeing/hearing ghosts in Phuket and Phi Phi.

She believes it to be true (I can't disprove it so no arguement comes from me).

Stories of people on Phi Phi hearing Farangs swimming in the water at night, taxi drivers talking to ghosts but believing them to be alive.... and so on.

How entrenched is the "ghost" belief in Thai culture?

I remember seeing news stories whilst in LOS about people being posessed. My wife's friend won't let me whistle at night because she believes it calls ghosts.

Do Thais see it as a superstition or do they truely believe it? I know my wife believes it however she said she is not scared when she goes past a cemetary here in Aus but is scared if she goes past graves when in Thailand (eg when buried for 100 days before being cremated).

  9. IMHO AFAIK I C U R experts in abbreviations

I don't want to be a PITA but is there anyone else in the LOS, especially BKK, CM that knows any more.

Maybe HM, MIB or Toxin from TRT might know a few.

OMG I'm starting to type like an experienced OP (PM me if you think not).

FYI I have GTG now to have a QC ("Quick Coffee" abbreviation used at my place of employment) Maybe you can use it one day :D

BTW and this may be OT but we need more posts about the BG, TG, GF, BF and how you P4P ASAP.

Wolfie - Why FOAG when the well of information is here. :D Look how much I have learnt already.

    GTG GB :o

  10. Being new to forums (only registered with Thai Visa) I am having trouble working out some of the abreviations.

Although I come from an IT environment, one of my pet hates are abbreviations and keeping track of them all.

I've worked out LOL (Laugh out loud), BTW (by the way), IMHO (In my honest opinion) but the rest are beyond me.  Sorry for my ignorance.... :o

Could some of you seasoned forum users get me up to speed so when I read your posts I know the whole story.

Which ones do you not understand? :D

    TiT??? comes to mind

However, I've never seen ROTFLMAO before which was very good.

The thing is, when I see them I don't know what they mean so I can't remember them later on.

Off the top of your head, what are some others that you know? :D

  12. One hour into my first visit to LOS.

I was waiting in the street with mine and my mates baggage while he checked availablity of rooms at a hotel.

Four Thai guys started walking over towards me. Not knowing anything different I thought I was in trouble.

Turned out they were the nicest guys and told me what tourists sites I should go to in BKK and how to get around (Skytrain, taxis, tuk tuks etc), where the best places to eat and so on.

Fisrt impressions are always the best ... :o

  13. Thank you everyone, I think you just gave me the answer to the question I've been trying to work out since my wife came to Australia and started eating cheese (loves parmesan).

"Darling, I tort men. Stink Stink"

We thought it might be the bread but I think maybe it is the cheese :o
