Please, do tell me which law forbids me to sweep the floor, change a light bulb, or even paint a wall in my own (legit) factory????

The one that says you can't do work that a Thai can do. Yes, I'm being sarcastic. biggrin.png

  2. Ron

I can't see any disadvantages to getting the yellow tambien ban.

Among the advantages might well be:

    -- no more need for the "embassy verification of address" that is sometimes required;

    -- I don't have a Work Permit, am here on a retirement extension, and last year when I needed to open up a new bank account a bit upcountry, the bank asked for the WP, nada, so pulled out the YTB, worked fine, smiles all around;

-- Thai price for entry to national parks, etc? Haven't had to use this, as yet, as oftimes the Thai driving permit suffices.

    -- More??

    Mac

LTD in Surin and Prasat will not except yellow book. They only except certificate of residence from immigration.

Sukhothai Historical Park will not except yellow book or Thai DL. If your a farang you pay tourist price.

  3. Sorry for my confusion of checkpoints and immigration offices. I've read on various forums that other people did get re-entry permits at immigration offices near the border. Will that possible for me too? I don't want to go all the way to my usual Immigration Office in Kap Choeng first, because it's a long ride (more than half a day): we live very close to Korat province.

If you got your extension to stay based on marriage from Korat immigration they will more than likely issue a reentry permit, even if your area now is Kap Choeng. My advice is do not drive 300 km thanking that another immigration office will issue you that reentry permit, they may not.

  4. We live in Buri Ram and are thinking about making a 2-3 day trip to Laos. It will be either to south Laos (Pakse and surroundings) or Vientiane.

I'm on a 1 year extension of my Thai spouse visa (non-immigrant "O"). Does someone know if you can get a re-entry permit at Chong Mek / Vientiane checkpoint? Or will I have to travel (all the way) to my nearest immigration office?

Reentry permits are issued at immigration office not check points. Your in Buriram so you need to go to the Kap Choeng Immigration Office for your reentry permit.

  5. Just had a good friend convert his 30 day visa exempt stamp from Swampy with only 9 days remaining on it over to an O-retirement at Kap Choeng Immigration. They excepted a letter from his bank confirming his funds. The letter was 6 days old. Total cost was 1900 baht. He will return in October for his extension to stay based on retirement.

  6. There must be something I'm doing wrong, I get charged 150 every time I use AEON ATM machine. This has been true in the past and after reading this thread I tried it again last week at both the AEON ATMs at Siam TV and Tesco, it still charged me 150 baht.

Could this be because I'm using my American ATM card from BoA and they just charge Americans the 150 baht?

I use an American ATM from Wellsfargo and do not get charged.

  7. Both Rimping and McDonald thanks there is a great future for they are both building as we talk and opening their stores at the Star Avenue Mall between the super highway and the Arcade bus terminal. McDonald already has a 50 foot tall sign up on the highway side

  8. How does a bus get from Chiangmai to Luang Prabang without going through Vientiane?

New Chiang Mai-Luang Prabang bus route

A second class air-conditioned bus route opened Thursday from Chiang Mai to Luang Pabang as the 8th route linking Thailand with the Lao PDR. The route opening ceremony took place at the Chiang Mai Arcade bus terminal. The 44-seater air-conditioned bus departs once a day from Chiang Mai province and makes a stop in Chiang Rai before crossing the border to Louang Namtha, Oudomxay and Luang Prabang provinces of Laos. The journey takes 18 hours and the fare is 1,200 Baht. Once the fourth bridge across the Mekong River from Thailand, linking Chiang Khong with the Lao PDR’s Huay Xai, is finished next year, first class air-conditioned buses will replace the second services with a fare of 1,500 Baht.

In related news, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Transport Silapachai Jarukasemrattana said the high-speed train project from Bangkok-Chiang Mai should be ready for service in 2017. He said currently a study is beng carried out to see which route is to start first. Apart from the Bangkok-Chiang Mai route, two other preliminary routes are in the project: Bangkok-Nakhon Ratchasima and Bangkok-Hua Hin. The high-speed rail journeys are expected to link the entire country within 3-4 hours, Mr Silpacha said.

  9. Made my trip to kap choeng yesterday for my first marriage extension... Everything went smoothly and the staff in there where very nice... back in 30 days to pick my extension up hopefully

I have found the staff in KCI nothing but helpful and friendly since the reopening. If everything was in order and I'm sure it was your marriage extension could be ready early. Give them a call in about 3 weeks and ask. If it is you can get it early, I did. Their phone number is in post 18..

  10. I lived in Korat and did not appreciate the distance to immigration. Very hard for elderly folks without a car to get there. Two years ago they refused to allow 90 day address reporting by mail, the most convenient thing they could have done if they truely wanted to help foreigners living in the larger area.

The staff can be rude and after having received donations, slipped in passports, or just on the table for years, sometimes maybe think that it is the norm. I personally did not enjoy my visits there. But then I do not enjoy most visits to immigration in Thailand, as there is always some new requirement that I am being asked to produce.

My post is obviously misleading....by asking for reports I meant has any Buriram resident gone to Dan Kwien since Kap Choeng has re-opened for full service and been refused service and been redirected to Kap Choeng? and not the merits of one office versus another....or people just moaning in general....

I have just returned from Korat Imigration at Dan Kwien. When I was finished with my business i asked them about residents from Buriram or Surin still using them and their direct answerer was for a 90 report MAYBE one time, next time go to Kap Choeng.

  11. Just returned from th Kap Choeng Immigration Office. Their phone number is now working (044559278).

Their new fax number is (04455927). They had 6 officers on duty helping 4 foreigners. Info: They well convert a tourist visa to an O for marriage at Kap Choeng Immigration. Cost 1900 baht.

  12. I went to ChockChai immigration to renew my 90 day report yesterday 7/6/12 they processed it but told me as I live in the province of Buriram I must in future go to Kap Choeng. Wife not happy as she loved looking around the pottery village whiole I waited in queue. Thankfully the qhueue was at most times very short but I am happyas it will cut my distance by about half and save me money on more pottery

Anyone can give me directions for Kap Choeng immigration office.

Kap Choeng is on the 214 highway approximately 28 km south of Prasat on the way to the Chong Chome Border Crossing. Kap Choeng is a small community so you will not get lost. As you come into town you will see signs in Thai and English for KCI approximately 1 km from the first sign on your right is a very large 2m x 1m nice brown wooden sign on the highway saying Kap Choeng Immigration turn right and go about 70 meters you are there. Can not miss it. Oh when your finished go back out to the highway turn right and go about 9 km just visit the Chong Chom Market, keep the wife happy. If you need extra help feel free to pm me.

  13. NBTC steps into Euro 2012 broadcast dispute

    The Nation

    June 7, 2012 1:00 am

Amid TrueVisions fears that its subscribers may not be able to watch Euro 2012

It is still uncertain whether subscribers of TrueVisions will have a chance to view the Euro 2012 soccer tournament on free-TV channels via their True set-top boxes, though the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission will step in to look into the matter.

The NBTC will convene a meeting today with TrueVisions and free-TV operators - Channels 3, 5, and 9 - to seek ways to prevent problems for consumers.

This follows a complaint by TrueVisions to the watchdog on May 31 that its customers were confused and worried that they might not be able to watch the prestigious tournament - which will be aired from June 8 to July 2 - on Channels 3, 5, 9 via their set-top boxes.

The NBTC's broadcasting committee chairman, Natee Sukonrat, said yesterday that according to the commission's principles, free-TV operators had to treat pay-TV operators on a non-discriminatory basis.

However, the NBTC has to examine TrueVisions' contracts with its customers to see whether TrueVisions has allowed its viewers to watch free-TV channels. If it has done so, then it will have to honour the commitments.

Currently TrueVisions subscribers can view all free-TV programmes via their set-top boxes. But it has been made known that only those with either GMM Z set-top boxes of GMM Grammy or a conventional TV antenna can view the Euro 2012 tournament. If they don't have these boxes, their free-TV screens will be blank during the matches.

Natee said the commission would not summon GMM Z, the GMM Grammy satellite-content and set-top-box distributor, to the meeting as it does not operate under the NBTC regime. The watchdog will oversee only the incumbent operators such as TrueVisions and free-TV channel operators.

GMM Grammy won the right to broadcast the Euro 2012 tournament. It has leased airtime of Channel 3, 5, and 9 to broadcast the matches on a revenue-sharing basis.

TrueVisions' chief programming officer Attaphon na Bangxang said the company's 2 million subscribers would understand well the situation that they might not be able to view the tournament, which will last only two weeks. But TrueVisions' complaint to the NBTC is aimed at prodding the watchdog to set measures that would prevent this kind of problem in the future regarding the broadcast of some licensed content via free-TV channels.

GMM Z chief executive officer Thana Thienachariya said he believed that most of the 2 million TrueVisions subscribers also have conventional TV antennas, which would enable them to view the tournament.

He added that as the company had won the broadcasting rights to air the tournament only in Thailand, GMM Z had to encrypt the Euro 2012 programme to prevent satellite-dish owners in neighbouring countries from being able to view it.

  14. Hell if everyone keeps talking up the rural Issan life style the place will start to get western refugees. I was the first farang here 10 years ago and am still the only farang, wouldn't mind 1 or 2 good lads in the area, but too many whites will bring down the neighborhood. Jim.

    Sound like me, Jim..wink.png

I'm easily, the only Farang within a broad region.

    The fewer the better.

YES YES and YESthumbsup.gif but hear they come.biggrin.png

  15. Not so good news.

Will there be any option to stay with the immigration office in Dan Kwian ? For us who live in the northernmost part of Buriram (Napho district) it is about 50 km longer to drive to Kap Chong and the road is much worse.sad.png

Understand your feelings. You can check with Korat but I'm positive what their answer will be. NO.
