  1. when I did that run a few years back, I hired a motor, it was a very enjoyable trip and quieter roads, but did experience one problem being that they only gave me a 30 day entry stamp in my passport and said it was all they ever did... perhaps you should check that out before if not desirable...

Sorry I cant help with coach or bus service...but I can recommend the stay over in the Anderman Club.... I paid for the best part of the expenses at the Casino..... of course you could lose too :))

The Malasia run is best by coach and bus from Nathon down to Had Yai then to Penang... takes longer because it slower.. much more comfortable..

  2. Possibly the most interesting fact from this reporting ( and I use that term loosely) is that Facebook has caught another suspect.... what a clever tool the police have encouraged, even less skilled forces like those in Thailand know to turn to FB first to find the 'perp '.. ... and I wonder what other 'network' facility is being used.... Check out Thaivisa next.... who is bragging about what... wheres their IP.......

  3. Why the f... don't they just do the required run. Sigh.

I think you lack experience and imagination..... perhaps the realisation that repeated long distance and high speed, visa dash and backs will eventually result in a collision.!.... convince some individuals that the risk of being caught on overstay is actually the better option, considering that paying 'The Fine' will remedy and normalise the situation.

I do not speak from experience, just repeating the casual 'bar talk ' one is accustomed to hearing.

Personally I don't think that having to constantly look over your shoulder and the hassle of disruption to status quo is worth it.... but then I don't need to do the border runs...

  4. Moral of this sorry ..if indeed there is one...if one is on an overstay then never discuss your visa details with anyone..... Visa runs are a popular subject among ex pats, keeps mouth shut and agree to doing boring visa runs and moan about them like everybody else..

I know a friend who had over a year overstay, when he was departing country, at airport immigration he told them he had overstay immediately , had 20k baht in his hand and passed it across, immigration official was very polite and said mai be lai ..mai be l ai..,.. passed the passport complete with Boarding pass/ticket , 20k bht to a collegue sitting at overstay desk, who filled in 2 forms which my friend had to sign, made an overstay stamp in his passport,... said naughty man to him... assured my friend that it would have no affect on future visa applications and waved him onto departure lounge.. ..

  5. I seem to remember reading earlier that part of the scam involved the westerner telling the Thai lady dupe that he had sent a large parcel of cash to her, that had been stopped at customs because a tax needed to be paid before it could be released...and could she please pay the 'fine '.... later a Thai pretending to be a custom official would phone confirming the parcel and asking Thai lady dupe if she was willing to pay..... T L Dupe now believing and getting excited by GREED pays up the fine and waits for parcel and waits...and waits...

You have got to have a chuckle.....

  6. My son attend a privat school in Surin 1 class or patum 1 or what they call it, english program. The english book they are using is written by two thais, i guess well paid for their effort. It is just terrible. When i complain to the teachers they just say, yes its all about practise. But when a 7 year old have to learn words he dont understand, i understand why the thais dont speak english. And i pay 25000 bth a term for this kind of rubbish, im at a loss what to do. Move to Bangkok or Chiang Mai to get him into an international school or what.

The total cost of books for my son was about 2000 baht for the year. He is in grade 4. These are mostly books from Singapore which are fine. They basically follow the primary course from the UK, Singapore style. The science book is based on the Thai curriculum but written by foreigners. I've not found any conceptual or grammatical errors in any book so far. There's no need to use material poorly written by overpaid Thais who don't have fluent grasp of the language, and won't accept there are any errors in their work!

My kids are using the Singapore books also.

Still don't grasp why they teach science and maths in two languages and then English separately also. Surely it would be better to teach English as a stand alone subject and let maths and science stay in Thai?

Total duplication of the subject matter is a waste of time massively increases the requirement to find more and more native speakers to cover the science and maths subjects.

What are the Thai words for hypotenuse, algorithm, simultaneity, radian, anhydrous, fission, meniscus? English, the language of science and technology.

    you left out Pomposity !

  7. Perhaps living on an Island with subsequent onshore/off shore breezes means less mossie probs....but I have never been overly troubled... only my bedroom has screened windows, chalet door open all day and until we go to bed around midnight, fans but no A/c... no creams or chemicals, other than tiger balm if ever needed for a quick successful bite ..its the very small ones ( babies ? ) that manage to get close....and its the time 5.30 - 6.30 pm to be extra vigilant.

I do remember when I first arrived in Thailand , now 7 years ago, that I was troubled much more, perhaps we can acclimatise... it is part of a tropical lifestyle...

  8. whistling.gif Alchohol does strange things.

It's easy for two or three young and sex obsessed males and females that have been drinking heavily to get the sexual language wrong.

She have meant one thing with her drunken flirting, the guys may have interpreted that as something else.

Hard to tell what they all really meant, but their signals (both the guys and the girl or girls) had different meanings to them and alchohol was the cause of the misunderstanding in the signals.

I had a Swedish friend who many years ago went to a wedding reception with his girlfriend and woke up in the morning with the bride, the groom, his (my friend's) girlfriend and his girlfriend's sister all in the same bed naked.

As he told me, at that point it was just better to say nothing, and just get dressed and leave as quickly as possible.

He claims he doesn't remember what happened or how he got there.

dont you just love those weddings.. ? been there, done it and yes loss of memory a bit of a prob but waiting for the next invite.......:D
