Interesting post, and some good advice. I have driven a Honda Jazz for three years in S Thailand and never had anything more than a parking ticket fine (my fault). Maybe I was lucky. Now I live in Pattaya, and having seen the crazy bike riders of all nationalities putting their lives at risk every day, I hope driving my new Brio will not turn out to be something I regret...

The focus should be on the unfortunate victim. She didn't deserve to be killed, and I would imagine her family are distraught with this wanton violence. RIP.

"My wife tells me that they have started the advertising campaign for tourists on T.V already, the only problem is that it is in Thai and not many tourists watch Thai television".
Nor do many ex-pats - it's for kids. And this is just another example of extracting Farang cash while showing the Thai viewers that the authorities are on top of the game - and is it coming up to voting time, already?

Is it the first of April already?
Move forward one year - CCTV, no mister, they kaput...

It annoys me no end when people ride their motorbikes the wrong way up a one-way street or even on the wrong side of a road - but it happens all over Thailand.
One Sunday on Pattaya beach road, police were stopping every Farang without a helmet, while Thai guys (I didn't see a Farang guy that day) were riding their motorbikes on the pedestrian walkway - both ways - with impunity. Now I'm not criticising anyone except the police for seeking extra income over safety.

This is quite common in undeveloped country like Thailand !!!
Sorry I don't think its common AT ALL!
It might not be unusual but it certainly is not common.
Well its certainly common in Pattaya. My condo overlooks a Burmese settlement. Every morning pick-up trucks arrive to take the workers - jam packed like sardines - to construction sites

I wonder why the crocs wanted to escape - didn't they like their pond? Or was there a lack of wildebeests at the farm?

Basically, you can't unless you remove the bike - i.e. park it inside for at least a week. The problem with revenge is that it could work two-ways, and we all know the consequences of that - the farang loses...

Lao dark makes a change, but it's no match for Old Speckled Hen available at the Stags Head Soi Metro - downside is that OSP costs 180 baht a pint - or is it 140, early doors?
Lagers in Thailand - ugh - hate all of them...

Too much speculation. And no comment about the allegation that the band member had stabbed others before. Which leads me to speculate that the Americans picked the wrong person to confront.
Yesterday, my Thai wife's son and nephew (in their 20's) were refused admission to Bamboo bar in Pattaya even though we were in a family unit together. I was told by a sympathetic staff lady that Thai men cause trouble...

But once I had set up the payee i.e. myself at BBK Branch London with my Thai BKK bank details,
please can you clarify what LONDON address details are needed to set up the payee at BKK London i.e. BKK london bank code, reference number?

No, it's not quite spot on. My UK bank needs to know where to send the money in London. I think this means using the BKK London code?
Please clarify.

The honoury consul on Samui does carry out documentation services, which is or should be a main function of this post.

Combination as of the time of the application is the law. That some offices choose to apply a different set of rules is because you forgot the bag of cakes from 7-eleven. Works wonders everywhere there is bureaucracy, which is most places...
