  1. National Tsunami Warning System Turns Out To Be One Twitter Account

BANGKOK – Following this week’s massive earthquake and tsunami scare that sparked evacuations in almost 30 countries, it was revealed that Thailand’s entire tsunami warning system was nothing more than a single Twitter account.

The revelation was made by the opposition Democrats at a special news conference this morning, when spokesperson Buranat Samutrak showed what he claimed was incontrovertible evidence that the nation’s Bt6 billion tsunami warning system, installed by the Thaksin Shinawatra administration following the tsunami of December 2004, was just one person tweeting updates from a mobile phone.

“This is a perfect example of how Thaksin and his government exploited the nation’s fears and the tragic events of 2004 to line his own pockets,” Buranat said.

However, the Yingluck government was quick to deny any wrongdoing and instead praised the effectiveness of the warning system. Pheu Thai spokesperson Prompong Nopparit noted that the international media had hailed the event as a “successful test” of the system and that many media outlets had praised Thailand for learning the lessons of 2004.

“We managed to get hundreds of thousands of people away from the coast in less than 15 minutes, well in time to be safe from any tsunami, which we are grateful never materialized,” he said. “The fact that the Democrats would take this great achievement from the Thai people and make it an issue shows that they are bankrupt of ideas.”

  2. .Hope you all had a great Christmas morning and the kids actually slept in a few mins past dawn at least thumbsup.gif

Thailand defiantly is the Land of Cute Santa's Helpers in the pics above giggle.gif

Schools around here had a big X-mass party yesterday, the parade though the streets of the whole school, thousands of kids and finished at lunch time. the kids are getting into this X-mass thing.

Kind of fun. Now they are starting the cont down to Easter Bunny to shoot some chocolate eggs. blink.png

This is clearly not a Thai Santa, he would be out on "bail" now..... for ever.........

  3. As I write this Santa is en-route in Australia between Sydney and Melbourne, you can see here.

A backup but less user friendly is Googles version here, in the top left toggle between map and Earth to see Santa superimposed over Google earth terrain. He seems to stop at more places on this one in you live in Tin-Buk-Too.

If you think they don't do Santa in Thailand, well you are out of touch, in the last couple of years, Santa is regally finding Thailand. Spurred on my retail stores pushing any reason to convince people why they should spend.

Your little Thai goddess is defiantly expecting a Christmas present, parasitically if you meet her in a popular tourist destination that has been saturated in tinsel.

She may have even sat on Santa's knee...... cheesy.gif

So come up with something quick, ring her, fix her broken buffalo (sorry if that is you giggle.gif ), send her some flowers or a gift basket, McDonald's Delivers in Thailand, so you can send her a warm cherry Mc pie. wub.png

Don't forget her or you may just be forgotten yourself.....

    Merry X-Mass wai2.gif

  4. In Chanthaburi, but I may head up to Bangsan Beach Area or maybe even Bangkok over the New Year.

At this stage I am trying to find out if they are commonly available? If so I will rip the batteries out and bring an example of each case (and bat) I wish to replace. That Link was a great start. :)

  5. In Thailand, gypsum ceilings are hung on light weight fro,es dangling on wires from the trusses. As apposed in the many western countries where the gypsum is attached to solid timber frames. You need to have a steel frame welded up and bolted onto something solid, in a condo, that would be the concrete " floor " above the ceiling. I recommend going the option that "David" suggested above of wall mounted fans, a decent one is about 1300B.

  6. "that their parents might also be subject to charges of violating the Child Protection Act, which attracts a three-month jail term and/or a Bt30,000 fine."

Is this enforced like the non existent child support in Thailand? The word "responsible" doesn't exist in Thai.

  7. Hey Naam and the other gurus here, I was in Global, poking my nose around the water pumps recently. I came across a small filter that was in the ag pipe section. A little filter got my attention. The inlet and out let was 1 inch, it has a 120 metal mesh filter.

On the 2 pumps that looked the same to me on the out side had LF-C ticked and the other had LF-D ticked.

I didn't get a pic. Are these used to separate sand pre the pump?
