  1. Unless you know the volume by weight of DEET, I am not sure how you can say it is a lot. A pound of lead is going to be significantly less in size than a pound aluminum.

Then you have to take into effect the other drugs and alcohol in their systems too.

    http://www.inchem.or...emical/deet.htm

Main risks are: CNS depression, generalized seizures, hypertonia with opisthotonic spells and hypotension. Symptomsare more severe if ingestion is associated with alcohol orsedative drugs.

If the median lethal dose in rats (2 g/kg) is applicable to humans, 50 ml of 100% DEET may is potentially lethal for an 8-year-old child.

DEET-induced CNSdepression may be potentiated by ethyl alcohol or psychotropicdrugs

You correct in some respects, but the point is, it appears you would need quite large quantites of DEET for it to become fatal, now if one assumes the source of the deet is ground up mosquito coils as has been suggested, how many coils would you have to grind up to get a lethal dose of deet, considering the fact the average mosquito coil is not even close to 100% deet content...

Even the quantity of 50ml of 100% deet to kill an 8 year old is still a significant quantity to put in a drink...

You say a drink, when you go out to party do you have a drink or many drinks. 1 beer is not going to do much to you, want about 10?

  2. Electric fences I have been told work wonders in Thailand. In Oz they are very high voltage and low currant I believe, will give a zap kind of thing but you can pull away. Sometimes Thais, just connect 220v mains electricity to the fence or gate at night time. A home made Thai one will kill you. I knew a chap who just connected a 12V tot eh fence somehow, and warning signs, that was enough, gave a tiny zap and the fear of 220V as that was a Thai electric fence is right !!!

  3. We have many prawn farms in our area in Chanthaburi, some have tried geese but they are to agro and attack Honda Waves and have caused accidents. I think they went back to big black dogs !!! Some of these prawn farms are hundreads of rais, they have little huts that are manned at night, people say they are armed, but I have never heard any shots. They are line of sight and all have little radios. Some prawn farms have motion sensors and cameras. Some of the motion lights are on a little UPS as well. They don't have many problems with thief's, but are very suspicious of 'out of towners' new to the area. I would hate to get caught stealing Goong. I think you wold end up at the bottom of the sea wearing concrete boots.

Some of the big ones were interesting watching them build them, prawn farming is very high risk but has some serous coin to be made... IF.... you are successful. Many fail. The guy building some big ones we were friends with, he would want to be after we bought 3540 truck loads of rock and fill off him for the cricket pitch in the back yard.thumbsup.gif The staff used the place we were renting at the time as a kind of place to have lunch and drink beer after work. Nice guys all round.

The good thing is, the air is very clear, great beach around the corner and when I see them sorting prawns & draining a pond, 4 cold Leos = about 5kg of still live big prawns spilling out of the plastic bag the beers arrived in. I wonder what a bottle of whiskey will get me? w00t.gif

  4. I think you will be pushing it in English, but stranger things have happened here !!

I do not have a old fashioned TV antenna, I do not know if the same fun and games will happening as with the soccer re the free to air channels on PSI and True? (funny name for a lie company)

With luck the whole sorry waste of public money will be blacked out everywhere

Thanks for you opinion, now back into you cave LOL.

  5. By the looks of it, each Australian destination has good connections one way but down right nasty the other way.

Can be easily solved by using a different company, in the article it mentions which ones, Tiger, Air Asia and Jet Star uses what terminals in Singapore.

When I go to Oz, I normally go on Sing Air, I think that the main Singapore Airport is the best in the world for passengers.

I wont be rushing on Scoot any time soon, but if I had to buy 5 tickets for a family, it would be hard to pass up.

  6. With hot water, if you are thinking of also putting in a boiler (hot water tank), do the plumbing now. Getting copper pipes done is almost impossible in Thailand, well possible but difficult to find. I ended up using gal-pip, this should be insulated when in the wall or the slab as it can get very hot and expand, the insulation offer expansion room as well. You can get the same stuff they use on air-con pipes from global, or even inside pvc pip will do the trick, eg gal-pip inside bigger pvc pipe.

When water pipes are in the ground under the slab, bury them in sand, as the often clay in Thailand soil expands and contracts in dry and wet season the sad acts as a buffer a little bit, also avoid rocks touching the pipes.

As for the short verticle section penetrating through the slab into the bathroom floors etc no sleeve was used for cold water. I have never seen a sleeve used in this case for cold water.
