  1. Don't mention the war. I mentioned it once but I think I got away with it.
  2. Mine was sorted as well. Same problem 🙂 They were very helpful in the branch and seemed to have had proper training about the transition. Total opposite of my experience with the Thanachart TMB merger a few years ago which was a shambles.
  3. Any Citi credit card holders able to successfully register for the UOB app since the migration yesterday? I complete my passport number and date of birth and successfully receive an OTP, but the next screen asks to confirm my credit card number and then rejects it. Same issue when trying to connect with them on LINE
  4. I think they are quoting the PM2.5 concentration which is different to AQI
  5. More cutting-edge journalism from the Thaiger. I often wonder if there is some equivalent news website for Thai people who are living in the UK that breaks stories such as "Drunk Thai masters student caught urinating outside Thai Square in Putney", and perhaps a whole community of British "netizens" in uproar about it.
  6. Don't understand their reply but unless I'm mistaken the platform fee is not new and applies only to GrabTaxi. This is Grab's fee on top of the metered fare. For other ride types the fee is wrapped up inside the fixed price that you are quoted.
  7. You shouldn't take this as advice, as what is suitable for each investor is dependent on their circumstances and objectives, but for me I have found SCB Asset Management have a decent selection of funds. They have feeder funds which invest in offshore index trackers for the MSCI World or the S&P 500. Good way of getting the tax benefits without having to invest in Thai equities, which aren't to my taste. I use these to max out my THB 500,000 allowance per year in a combination of super-savings fund (SSF) and retirement mutual fund (RMF). Of course SCB adds a layer of fees on top of the underlying tracker.
  8. +1 Probably get a better exchange rate than your bank, and less hassle
  9. +1 I took the senior management from my company on this cruise during a regional meeting and it was very popular. Not cheap but good value for what you get.
  10. Just to briefly share my experience (applying with a lawyer assisting): 1. Applied in December 2019: they found an issue with one of my documents (they said my criminal record check from my home country was too old). They proposed a "solution" which I refused and so they did not accept my application. My lawyer asked for the regulation/announcement about the validity period for the criminal record check. They said they wasn't one - it was an internal policy. I do not know how genuine this was. 2. Applied again in December 2020: application accepted without paying anything. I had a different officer reviewing it and I made sure my criminal records check was brand new. They didn't mention it or seem to pay any attention to it. Got the approval in 2022
  11. Hunter's Garden Bar and Restaurant on Sukhumvit 101/1 is decent if you live out in that direction. Beef/Lamb/Pork/Chicken
  12. Yes no problem. I have used Deemoney to purchase Euros which deposited into my Wise account the next day
  13. Sorry I did not see your question until now. It took around 4 months to get registered. Eventually I had to hand deliver the district office's letter to the immigration department. There were an awful lot of documents they had to prepare to put me in the blue book but eventually it was done. Takes a lot of persistence
  14. It wasn't racist because it was based on residency which is not the same principal as the system in Thailand.
  15. Ok, please allow me to be more precise in my answer: Never heard of this before. They did not visit my workplace, my residence or any of my neighbours when I applied for PR last year. None of the other people I know who have done it are aware of any such visits either.

  17. I've been waiting 7 weeks for my wife's so far with no answer. Some friends who submitted their biometrics on the same day as us heard back in 3. Our flight to a big family reunion (4 years since the last one) leaves in 2 weeks... I emailed UKVI at a cost of £2.74 to ask what was happening and they replied that they can't give an update and I should not have booked travel until the visa was approved.
  18. Have any PR holders any experience of registering on a tabien baan in Phra Khanong district in Bangkok? I got my approval in February and I already have a yellow tabien baan from Phra Khanong but am having difficulty getting them to allow me to transfer into the blue one. Firstly they asked for a lot of irrelevant documents, which I nevertheless provided (work permit, marriage certificate, child's birth certificate) and then they questioned the authenticity of the of my residence certificate and alien registration book. They said they would need to confirm with Immigration and the police. It's been two months now and when I follow up they just say they don't get any reply and I should keep waiting. It's exasperating
  19. Hello I have a two unconnected questions for the PR experts on this thread which I'd appreciate some advice about: 1. Identification number I have had a yellow book & pink ID prior to achieving PR for a couple of years now with a "6-xxx" number. When I move to a blue book following PR approval will I keep this ID number or will they issue a new one starting "8-xxx"? My current number is shown on my son's birth certificate and various other documents. I am fearful this will be an issue if I suddenly change numbers. Does anyone know how to deal with this? 2. Future work permits: Can anyone shed any light on how having permanent residency affects the process of getting a work permit? I have heard that it is "easier" for permanent residents but I have no idea what that means. I also hear reports from some that the requirement for having 4 Thai members of staff per foreigner is removed for PR holders, so in theory a PR holder could get a work permit as a sole employee of a company. Has anyone any experience of this? Clear information on the subject is hard to come by Many thanks!

  21. Hello I submitted by permanent residence application in December and have completed the interview a few months ago. I am wondering when I might hear the outcome. My current employment may not last far into next year and I am not sure how this will impact the issuance process, assuming I am approved. Although I can stay in Thailand under my PR "under consideration" stamp I worry that a change of my work status may blow up the application if I have to show my work permit again to get the residence certificate. I was told by some that it was usually 18 months from application. My lawyer said perhaps this December, but I have a feeling they were guessing to avoid admitting they didn't know. Can any members with PR tell me when they received the approval? Thanks
