  1. I love this better than any soap opera. The army will not allow this to happen....period....I think they are just waiting to get new year out the way and then they will say that's enough from everyone.

There will be a coup before he and his goons trash Bangkok anymore.

Get you popcorn in this week and expect a day or so off work while the army dig out this tic. w00t.gifcrazy.gif

  2. After what the Army said yesterday, I can see a coup coming again....yawn.......reset the clock and everyone starts again....yawn....

I cant see Suthep and his cronies getting away with holding Bangkok under siege. The army wont let it happen.

having said that, all is not bad, the 2006 coup was great, streets deserted, great photo opportunities sitting on Thai army tanks, lets embrace it and hope for a holiday :)

  3. the crank pulley on my 94 Honda civic has sheared off. The resort we are staying on of course new someone that would help. He came down with his truck and compressor and attempted to remove the bolt that connects the pulley to the inside of the crankshaft, in doing so the bolt broke so only half came out. Now I know this kind of job is a ball ache because now not only do I have to find a new crank pulley and bolt, but also have someone drill out the old bolt. So the mechanic said he would sort it out the next day and give me a price for work and parts.

Two days later he turns up saying there are no parts on Ko Chang and he would need to get them from Rayong, ok fair enough. Then he quoted me Bt8500.

A little shocked, im looking for any advice or know costs of a pully and bolt for a honda civic lx 1994. Just seems a lot of money, even if the bolt needs drilling out.

Anyone know of a trustworthy mechanic on Koh Chang?, and second question is how much should a crank pulley cost? Honda parts are supposed to be cheap here in LOS, which why I bought a Honda.

    hanks

  4. She might get a temporary waiver for the teaching licence, which is needed for both work permit and extension of stay.

Normally that requires a degree, but I am not sure that also applies for nursery teachers. They might fall under a different department.

I would have her contact the teachers council and see what they say.

Many thanks for your answers, I will have her do this and find out some more.

  5. A degree is not always required to get a work permit. In her case it would depend upon what she is teaching.

There are many people teaching English without a degree.

I think many is an understatement. At least my wife has nearly finished. her degree is in early childhood and she will have finished next march. the school are ok with her, becuase she is a bloody great nusery teacher. we both know the law, this is why I was asking. Once she has her degree it wont be an issue. At least she is working towards it, unlike many other people.

  6. my wife is in her last year of an education degree through the Open University in the UK, She has worked in education for the last 8 years both in the UK and Thailand. She currently works at an international school and is on a year non Imm B until she gets her degree early next year. Someone last week told me if you are working towards your degree here in Thailand, and in education, that you qualify to apply for a work permit. can any one tell me if this is the case?

It would be a relief if she could as we know its not an ideal situation on a Non Imm B.

    thx in advance

  7. Dunno if it's help but there's a couple or so Thailand posts here:-

    http://www.passatworld.com/forums/53-asia/

As for getting the book sorted etc at the DLT your know when you go to do it, don't hand any cash over until you do, and take a Thai friend/wife/partner too whatever it will help no end.

Thanks for the reply, I will def take a Thai with me. My wife is English, so will need to take a friend. Not a great deal on VW, im getting a gut feeling to leave this one alone.

  8. My 1 year non imm B will reach 12 months in July. Can anyone tell me if I can do one last border run and get an additional 3 months to make it a total of 15 months in all? Ive been told this is the norm, but just wanted to check here first.

    thanks

Yes, if you have a non-b multi entry just do a visa run the day before your visa expire and you will get another 3 months.

Thanks for the reply. Thats a relief

  9. Just been to look at a car. the price is 107.000 its a VW passat 2.3GL with LPG

Took it for a drive and was very solid, still has a strong engine and the bodywork and interior is pretty clean. I've always had a VW or audi in the UK. I want to buy the Passat, but want to know if its going to be a real ball ache to fix and find parts for. Any one here with a VW that could share their experience. It it a no, no car in Thailand? They do sell cheaper than the Asian cars, and this is why I thought Id get some advice here first.

The second issue is the guy who is selling the car (an american) says he will go to the office on Monday with me, where we will make the transfer of documents and put the car in my name, but the car is not in his name, he says its in a Chinese mans name but there will be no problem with the documents. he says he has had the car for over 12 months so Im wondering why he didnt transfer the documents to his own name. Is this a common thing?

Ive done a lot of research and know what is required document wise, so If he has all the paperwork including the registrants ID card etc,do you think its a safe deal or am I asking for trouble.

    Any help appreciated.

  10. hi, just coming up to our first visa run, just wanted to confirm we can extend our 1 year multi non imm visa at the border? and not have to fly out the country and back. We plan to go to cambodia from Ko chang as we are on holiday. The other question is, as its the 1st 90 days, if my visa finishes on the 27th October, would I need to report that day with immigration, or is there a time limit from when you enter the country again to go and register?. The reason i ask is becuase we have family over and as mention will be in Ko Chang. I need to juggle my dates for the run and allow enough time get to immigration. or is there an esier solution to do this?

    thanks in advance

  11. Hi peeps my first post here and need a little help

My wife has been offered a good job at an international school in BKK. She has been a early years teacher in the uk for several years. We applied to the Thai consulate in Cardiff for her visa and submitted the documents from the school. The consulate have been really helpfully with the whole process. We had an email to say her NIB had been processed then yesterday they called up to say they had forgot to ask for the CRB. She obviously has an enhanced CRB because she works with children in the UK. These types of CRB shows every conviction no matter how old they are. my wife has two convictions, one in 1994 and another in 1999 for shoplifting. This is when she was (in her words) young and stupid. Since then she completed her degree and has been working in the uk with kids without any problems from the schools questioning her. So now the Thai consulate has asked for this we have sent it off and await Monday to see what happens.

I've read lots of posts on here about this topic but can't find any conclusion. Does anyone have experience in such a situation? We are really worried the NIB will be refused. What do you think?

    Thanks in advance.

By the way, my user name says Tubby, when it should be tibbsy, I need to turn off the spell correction on this dam iPad!!,!,

    Cheers
