  1. Why wouldn't 2 GB of RAM not be enough? Windows are trying to make their software less reliant on RAM are they not?

Because I was also in the market for a new tablet, I've tried Win 8.1 on my Laptop with 2GB RAM (usually 4GB, but removed 2 GB for the testing)

A fresh install, without any additional programs, runs (relative) smoothly.

But after installing several programs, which added entries into auto-start and installed several services, I could notice a real speed difference.

The free RAM decreased from ~900MB to ~500MB (idle without running programs).

And I did not even install any Antivirus software.

Opening Chrome/Firefox with several tabs and your machine will start heavily swapping.

Or, open a few programs simultaneously, same effect.

After adding the additional 2 GB, it was a difference like day and night.

After all, use the tablet, lets say one year, and you will notice how creepy slow it became.

(Like every many Windows machines tongue.png )

Serious question: would anybody buy a Laptop with only 2 GB RAM nowadays? NO!

I guess, the next tablet generation will be available in a few months.

Yes, got to agree. With the cost of RAM so cheap these days, we're being spoon fed old technology. I'm replacing my 6 year old Acer laptop - which has 6GB Ram - and is only just fast enough run to my video editor. With 2 GB of RAM, it was unusable.

  2. For me I wanted a HDMI output.. And it works brilliantly.

My second choice was an Onda V919 - that has WiDi, eliminating the need for a HDMI cable. I was put off after reading negative comments on a YouTube comparison about battery life and the display.

  3. X89.. Quality of unit 8/10. Screen quality and resolution 10/10. Battery time 7/10 (smaller battery than X98)

Software 8/10 mine is windows only. 8.1 bing plus office 365. Because of the resolution and screen size the windows icons are tiny.

I think the X89 is only 8'', opposed to 9.7'' for the X98. I'm reading lots of good reports about it.

  4. Been following many of the recent tablets to come out of China, and one of the hottest - the Teclast x98 air (dual O/S - 64Gb) is on offer from Banggood for only $185.99 - but there's only 16 hours left to order. If you know of anything better for the money, let me know - QUICK!

  5. Buy plan tiket fli 2 other play and b save 4 her. best you wurk U home countys and sen mony too her.

    I'll translate that as:

Buy a plane ticket to another place and be safe from her. Best you work in your home country and send her money. smile.png

Thanks for translate. Really i am feeling too tired and bad. But smiley now smile.png

I notice your spelling is impeccable - considering you say your English is 'not very well' LOL

  6. Don't worry to much, most Backpackers don't spend more then 1200 in a fortnight anyway.

Pad thai for breakfast, lunch and Tea and you will be fine.

14 X 7 baht bottles of water - lets say 2 a day - plus 14 packets of mama noodles @ 5 baht = 168 baht. Enough left over to buy a 499 baht tent from Tesco Lotus, and still have enough for night out on the town biggrin.png

  7. 'I just follow what the officer tells me' says it all, really! What if your business income showed 39,999.75 baht a month and you had 400k in the bank?

Best of luck to you trying to override an officer's decision. As it happens I did read the changed rule, I just can't find the rule right now. And to answer your question, Immigration do not even look for money in bank/bank letter. It's all about income, proved by tax paid. And to answer you question - no tax paid on 40,000 baht/mont (in my case, maybe more depending on nationality) then application rejected.

Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it? If your business has a bad year, you can't run, it or stay with your Thai wife - regardless of how much you have in the bank!

  8. BEREAVEMENT BENEFITS IN THAILAND

The Pensions Act 2014 became law on 14th May 2015, when it received the Royal Assent. It comes into force on 6th April 2016

With effect 6th April 2016, Thai Widows, living in Thailand, will not be eligible for any benefits under new laws which are known as Bereavement support payment. To be eligible to receive benefits (formerly known as bereavement benefits).....

    (1) A person is entitled to a benefit called bereavement support payment if—

the person is ordinarily resident in Great Britain, or a specified territory, when the spouse or civil partner dies,

Thailand, unfortunately is NOT a specified territory.

I may be wrong but I think this may lead to more people not advising the UK authorities of a death.

When a UK citizen dies in Thailand, it's inevitable the British Embassy will be informed by the authorities.

I am actually talking about the authorities in the UK i.e. DWP. I don't think the embassy advise them.

The British embassy needs to authorise the release of the deceased's body from a hospital.

Not so with a death at home. Any death of a foreign national or Thai citizen must be reported to the police within 24 hours. In the case of foreign nationals, the police will inform the appropriate Embassy and the next of kin or representative will be notified.

I'd be frankly amazed if the embassy didn't advise them!

  9. He is doing 'the marriage route', but not with 400 k but with work permit. And that means taxes have to be paid etc.

I am doing the same, and nothing has changed for years already.

Maybe the case, but it's certainly not correct. Show me a document that says you can't renew with 400k bank deposit if married to a Thai and working. Any will do...

It is very correct. As for showing a regulation about marriage extension applicant with WP must show at least 40,000 baht/month income - I just follow what the officer tells me. I can't exactly remember when this changed from showing 400,000 baht in bank to showing income, I would guess about 5 or 6 years ago. Prior to that I showed 400,000 baht in the bank. Believe me, this income route makes a lot more work for the officer, lots more paperwork, if the officer could make it easy for himself - he woul.

'I just follow what the officer tells me' says it all, really! What if your business income showed 39,999.75 baht a month and you had 400k in the bank?

  10. Last year the officer was reluctant to accept our family photo because it didn't clearly show the house we live in! They make up the rules as they go!

We had the same experience, our family photo was not accepted, needed to include the street number, company name, our office equipment. As I have a WP I can't go the 400,000 baht in bank marriage route. Have to show income, tax paid, accounts, and many other documents. Never the same requirements the next year.

You're married and can't go the 'marriage route'? That doesn't sound right at all! Several years ago, we were told it was desirable for me to be working when doing the annual extension. Like I say, they make the rules up as they go along - it's their prerogative!

He is doing 'the marriage route', but not with 400 k but with work permit. And that means taxes have to be paid etc.
