  1. 1000 thb per hour for labour? In Thailand? where they pay 10,000 - 15,000 thb for their mechanics?

C'mon, this is nonsense, it is even higher than hourly charges In USA or Europe.

This is a total rip off man.

How much does it cost to fly the mechanics to Italy for training?

I'd personally rather have European trained Ducati mechanics service my Ducati than Somechai the flip-flop wearer at 60b p/h.

But the choice of course would be yours.

  2. So you truly believe that EVERY bike without a green book will be confiscated? Now I understand why some people find your posts funny! No offence Richard but that is never going to happen.

Oh no, not all of them.

I'm sure that those with connections or make a nice donation to the police xmas party will be okay.

Remember the big bike raids around Isaan (and Chiang Mai?) about 2 years ago. TiT, anything can happen.

Enter a company like Honda into the game and anything can happen fast. I'm sure it wouldn't take much from them to get the authorities coming up with policies that make them all better off.

  3. Many teachers thought that the teachers council would not enforce education degrees they are. Things are changing and on big bikes they will change quickly when the big bike manufacturers start complaining about non registered bikes affecting their sales.

And let's not forget that there's a big new player in the legal big bike game...

    Honda

Apparently due to start manufacturing big bikes early next year as well.

Don't they also have plans for more Big Wings around the country? I'm sure they mentioned the plan to open more in Chiang Mai and Phuket.

  4. Well right then.. is the CBR 250 worthy.. opinions.. I'm looking into buying this bike.. Any comments suggestion would be welcome.

This CBR250R is the best selling bike in it's class in every market it's been released in. ;)

Because it is the best. :)

  5. For a Thai, a friend is someone they met once. In a lot of cases, the name of the "friend" is unknown.

True. It's often quite surprising, until you really get to understand the culture.

The noob can be amazed by seeing a Thai close to them meet and converse and be friendly with the someone everyday for 6 months. Then when asked what's their name? What city are they from? they don't know.

  6. by the way guys, my mechanic stated to me that the engine have to go down and the valves needs to be changed and some other work inside the engine on 40,000 km. He told me that he knew this from Honda Training program for cbr250.

So, emptybasementbin, there is nothing something like that right?

Sumet Cycle, do you know anything about it?

    Regards?

First I've heard of it. Sounds odd.

  7. HMF disease is of very little to adults. It is a disease primarily of young children. At this point in time, it will have very, very little, if any impact on tourism.

I await the first cases in the touristy areas and let's see.

I don't think many tourists hang around in kindergartens mate.

I know that a good few have been closed for a week already in Bangkok, and was the same last year.

AKA 'The Annual Hand, Foot and Mouth' Holiday by TEFLers.

  8. The selection is rather narrow if you don't speak good Thai.

    Incorrect.

There are numerous places and social circles where Thais who have either been educated overseas, in international schools, or EP's socialize.

And do you think they never speak Thai to each other?

Errr, they're not likely to speak Thai to a non-Thai speaker mate. rolleyes.gif

And who would want to befriend a spoit Inernational School graduate?

From the looks of these threads there's many people desperate to befriend anything at all.

  9. The selection is rather narrow if you don't speak good Thai.

    Incorrect.

There are numerous places and social circles where Thais who have either been educated overseas, in international schools, or EP's socialize.

They are a tiny fraction of the Thai population.

ACtually, they will generally socialize together, at places designed for them to do so.

There's certainly no massive emphasis on needing to speak Thai in order to socialize with them in Bangkok, if one wishes to do so.

At the other end of the spectrum look at the board members who were on about becoming 'good friends' with beer bar staff and prostitutes without being fluent in Thai.
