  1. They have been struggling mightily for a few years now trying to figure out how to get the untapped heath insurance gold mine flowing into Thai bank accounts...

No telling how many man hours they have already sunk into this project...

But this is a very complicated problem....Lots of different visas, lots of different age groups, lots of people from many countries, lots of different languages, lots of different risk factors, lots of different preexisting conditions....

And the one visa that insurance was required on ,the O-X, it completely bombed out...

Sure they may only be talking about the O-A visa right now but you just know they would like to get everyone paying into some sort of insurance...

But they are between a rock and a hard place....Because if the insurance was any good they just might have 100s of thousands to millions of foreigners looking to cash in on their insurance policies over night to fix what ever ails them...

So they are only left with the option of writing scam policies that would not cover much of any thing.....Or just not requiring insurance at all....

If medical  insurance becomes mandatory for all long term expats. Will Thai Immigration  accept TRICARE?

I will not be surprised if it is required for those on retirement extensions in the near future.

I dont think Tricare or any other non Thai policy can be trusted....( To help line the pockets of the right Thai insurance companies that is)....This is a real problem they are working hard to figure out a solution too....

You missed out the "tourist" things......elephant rides, temples, floating markets, 5 days at a beach resort, full-moon party, jetskis, hill tribes, Grand Palace, Mekong Cruise, Emerald Buddha, etc, etc......etc.

    You're not a tourist.

You're living in Thailand and using your excessive Western wealth to live the "high life", you need to apply for some sort of long-stay visa.

Application for your 2nd/3rd/4th SETV this year refused.

    Get it?

Thats easy to say when your over 50...

I'm sure they want tourists, after all they have waived the visa on arrival fee again. They're just getting stricter about people attempting to live in Thailand without an appropriate visa/permission to stay. Are there any countries in the world that allow tourists to stay for months on end?

  5. They have sunk HUGE resources into making sure lottery tickets sell for 80 baht and not 100 baht.....Is this really a critical issue?....Who bloody cares really.....If you have 80 baht to blow on lottery tickets then you sure have 100 baht.....That extra 20 baht makes a big difference to the ticket sellers.....I always pay 100 baht...

Soi Bua Khao, Pattaya Tai end.

Rows of massage shops with 100 baht massages. Banana Massage is popular. 50 baht tip expected and even suggested by a note on the wall.

Well they ask for 100 baht but I usually try and haggle with them to get a lower price....If every one pays 100 it might start going to their head...

Only if the price is 200 baht per bag. One baht, 2 baht - 5, 10, per bag, sorry but that won't work as many would be happy to pay that. Total ban as in New Zealand is the only way - I was there for the start of it, and it was amazing to see how quickly people complied without complaining. Big, tough tattooed bikies meekly walking into supermarkets with their little pink reusable shopping bags - lol.

I dont plan on stopping using plastic bags ever...I will not be changing....

You people still don't get it. It's put up or pack up time. Do you know what you're supposed to do if a hospital stay forces you to spend the 800K in your bank account? Put another 800K in your bank account. The Thai gov't wants people who can afford to live here. You think it's about "walking away" from medical bills? What do you think happens when one of you uninsured morons dies in hospital--or joins the Pattaya Flying Club? Who pays for that? Non-Thais have no right to live here. Period. And if you can't afford to live here on THEIR terms (it's their country) you have to go live somewhere else. That's just reality. And if reaches the point where I can't afford to live here anymore (which it might), I will just leave--not whine like a bitch on Thaivisa.

So in your reality the one and only thing that matters in life is $$$......Families children marriages dont mean jack....If your rich your good and if your not rich your bad and have not rights.....

Thai goverment/immigration should look at this:
    https://www.expatbriefing.com/country/brazil/living/retirement-for-expats-in-brazil.html
When you retire in Brazil you get an 8 year visa, free work permit, an id card, FREE health care, 50% discount on all entries into goverment establishments such as museums etc, FREE public transport country wide. it goes on and on.

Come on Thai government stop being nasty to people who worked themselves to almost death and decided to live the rest of thair lives in a plesant environment.
Brazil and Vietnam are now looking really good.

And what does Thailand give expats?......Well if you catch immigration on a good day they might give you a free glass of water.....

I don't have any issue with the mandatory insurance, I have had to have it for other countries as well.

BIG question though is will you be able to choose your plan and provider and not be limited to the current Thai based provider/schemes like on the O-X.

There is nothing wrong with the O-X visa or insurance....All 10 people who have the O-X visa say its great...

I thought the government were going to charge tourists 100 baht entry fee to Thailand to cover this.

I think it was just torture for the Thai insurance companies the thought of farangs having money in their bank that was not going to them....After all farangs would just be spending their own money foolishly ......
