I have an O visa extension of stay based on marriage and I imagine I am not 'punished' because I have to keep 400K in the bank to renew (or 800k for retirement), or is my thinking incorrect?
If you have the money, go for the retirement route, it is so much easier. No interview, no waiting, no bankbook BS, just show them you have it and you get the stamp the same day.

Yes that sounds doable but any visa that needing more then 5 requirements I personally wouldn’t bother. Just give me stress.Visa you only have the first time, I wrote that already, and that is what defines your status. If you come in on longstay (free ride first year) you need to show health inusrance. If you come in on ordinary B or O you need to fulfil those requirements, like all that trouble with a wife, or work, but no health insurance. So it is up to you, no easy paths ????

Amazing there are still some long term stayers willing to put up with all the requirements for some visa.
I changed from O marriage to O retirement (not O-A, just O) last year and it's the best type of extension you can get here with the least effort. Just show them the money. Done.

It is not O-A, it is retirment for which you have to show the 800k, either O or O-A. Which is still the most painless option, compared to a B or O-Marriage.

Sounds like it will be all long stay individuals per this article
Long-stay foreigners will need virus cover (thephuketnews.com)
All foreigners living in Thailand as non-immigrants will in the future have to prove they have insurance coverage of at least US$100,000 (B3 million) against COVID-19.
Posting copied from BKK Post which was removed since. Wrong translation. But I still think Phuket and Buriram shall fall under it ????

you need to leave the country and come back in to get the O visa
Was said before, what counts is the visa you entered the country in the first place. If it is O or B you are safe, if it is longstay O-A or O-X you pay for glass palaces.

The financial requirements for extending the OA and the Non-O (Retirement) are exactly the same; insurance is the only difference.
True, and you have (or had) the option to enter the country with either one. Long stay got 1 year free ride, the other O's, B's whatsoever had to put more meat on the table. Up to you to change that.

Ok if Phuket implements that. Or Buriram. ????

Bangkok Post article seems to have been removed now.

A number of countries don't even certify your pension or other retirement income. Big discussion some months, or is it years now, back. Why would they start doing this for insurances where they have even less visibility and control over. Another one of those fantastic thought over policies, perhaps they can make an app for it ????

not any more read todays BKK post
He converts from currently B to an O extension, that is just "other", not longstay (O-A or O-X), thus no insurance requirement. Also no visa or re-entry, no 100kUS$ insurance required either. So same as before. You can also convert from O "Thai Wife" to O "Retirement" and no insurance is needed. What counts is only the visa category when you first enter the country.

BTW, I'm still working, but I'll likely apply for a Non-O next year.
Not a problem if you convert from B to O, longstay insurance is only required for longstay O-A and O-X visa and extensions.

Maybe something lost in translation as usual. Anyways, nothing (besides Wuhan) stops you from entering the country on a different type of visa than O-A or O-X. Of course the requirements will be different and higher. But hey, up to you as they say here ????. Nobody said Thailand is cheap.
Non-issue anyways nowadays as you need that 100kUS$ insurance regardless. So nothing but hot air.

This topic is about visa, not extension. You should understand the difference as this is important.

With an O-A visa you get the benefit of not needing to leave the country every 3 months. Only logical that insurance requirements for 1 year are higher than for a max 3 months stay with an O or B.

Honestly, it is getting boring. If you like to cheat yourselves, fine, but you don't need to show your complete incompetence every other day.

Getting a Wuhan jab has a higher probability than that. ????

Don't you have better things to do with your time or is there something special to play their silly games? It's been hundreds of times reported that it is not working before, yet and wont in the time to come as there is not enough vaccine. So wait until they throw it after you. Not that it would help for anything anyways.

This is all wishfull thinking. Just wait for the first "fully" vaccinated people coming down with the virus as we've already seen it in for instance the Seychelles or Singapore. We all know what happens then, total panic without any mindful plan. I don't want to be particularly in Phuket for this to happen.

Elderly expats given lifeline regarding mandatory insurance requirement for Non-Immigrant “O-A” visas

For retirement you need to show 800k everytime you apply for extension (yearly) and it cannot drop below 400k in between. That is the current status, may be grandfathered if they double it.
