  1. "So in the next wave of Chinese economy, I would like to see that greater reliance of domestic consumption and purchasing of foreign interests namely nuclear in UK, property in manhattan ...it's a good strategy like Singapore called economic defense."

Well if China is so good at nuke (if it's good enough for Britain must be good enough for China) why are they importing fossil through Burma. Nuke capability not enough presumably for the voracious demand in China. Btw. French consortium leads the build in the UK. China is a helpful financial passenger.

Not sure what this subtly inserted Manhattan property jibe is all about.

Chinese landlady in Beijing will get her knickers seriously twisted if the property bubble bursts.

    I know her well.

Sent from my tablet created in California, assembled in China.

Buying a 900 million building from JP Morgan is a jibe ? Wow you just made dinner conversation for me with my Chinese partners here on how low the hatred can get ...we will salute you with a toast and drink some fine scot whiskey

    ...

as for nuke technology it's called diversification of your energy needs ...

  2. I have skipped the lunch buffet although at 299baht if I am still on the area looking for a lazy afternoon I will head there

The dinner seafood BBQ is the winner and comparing that to the one in Shangrila

The HI one is a winner with the variety and the freshness of the BBQ ...the only caveat is to go right on the dot as the size of the shrimps and crabs gets progressively smaller as the night wears off

They have a current promotion of buying 5 adult voices and getting one free or use the HI card for the 15% off

  3.

At any rate, it gets difficult when all one has remaining is a fig leaf.

One important fact that you left out, Publicus, as to why China will burst is it's total lack of Inventiveness and creativity.

It produces NOTHING. It has invented NOTHING. It has created NOTHING.

It only copies, borrows, steals or outright buys technology. And it does so at the expense of it's own nation.

The only creativeness comes with they concoct new fake foods that end up poisoning their own people.

I was in Hong Kong for 8 years. For a city state that see's itself to be way above "Dalu"  Mainlanders, in manners, poetry, writing, freedom, critical thinking, literacy and education, it still has not put anything out in the world in the form of technology as the Western countries have.

They rely too much on Western inventions.

Check out AppleDaily just to get your daily dose of Chinese buffoonery.

That's a very good observation. China strength lies on its ability to make something cheaper and faster ...it has never professed to be an innovator

And frankly in all my travels, I believe the west will continue to lead in this area and that is great as everyone has to be good in something

So in the next wave of Chinese economy, I would like to see that greater reliance of domestic consumption and purchasing of foreign interests namely nuclear in UK, property in manhattan ...it's a good strategy like Singapore called economic defense.

Btw the has pipe line in Myanmar is fully operational as of Sunday to bring direct gas from Africa / Myanmar and the likes right into Kunming area. The adjacent oil pipe will be ready next year and this will have an impact on countries like Singapore and Malaysia which depends on port trades as the volume is bound to be affected

Basically if they fail, you won't do any better.

  4. Yep. The slippery snake with its posturing would have a hard time.

As for conventions and the Law of the Sea....the Chinese Way.

Stubborn and determined to have their own way.

Good descrip on the first line of the Japanese who hoodwinked everyone in their gentle and peaceful ways during WWII

I wonder of u have been to the shrine ...maybe if you visited you can understand why the Chinese are uncomfortable along with the South Koreans ...they remember the past and know the Japanese being the strongest in the military here in the region and the need of oil resources make them the danger and threat again ....

Good to have a strong china to protect their own interests

  5. History dictates the islands belongs to China according to archives and ancient maps. the Japanese were given control of those after WWII.

It's interesting that everyone refers to the UN when it comes to China...everyone knows for a fact that the UN has no bite and no real arbitrary powers except to negotiate and try to talk peace which is exactly what Asians like to do while trading

I didn't see the USA or UK consult the UN before they went for a full out war on Iraq ...history already tells us the fiasco on that one so I don't need to repeat it...that was pure aggression but I guess it is okay when you have the world policeman on duty and on call...as for boycotting of goods ...freedom fries ?

This is exactly what China has been doing on the background with Japan. in spite of the western media portrayal of in high tensions and imminent dangers, the grassroots are still talking to each other even though technically for political sake the 2 leaders are holding firm and not talking in public.

Again this is the Asian Way ...never embarrass the leaders in public not like the dumb mucking of the senate and the house laid bare to see influenced by their donations and extreme views ...silly and undignified I would think as the media left the leaders no place for any decision but to stick to their guns and later admit to a humiliating defeat while the citizens suffer.

There is no estimate as yet on the effects of the shutdown, but the numbers when they appear will be doctored and hardly a true reflection of the people who suffered whether it was their wedding plans when the parks were closed, visas which cannot be processed etc

Asians will continue to talk and talk in the hope that the talk will prolong any danger of a dumb war. China and Vietnam have set up a hotline ...they are active foes on the island disputes but talking is the way, not fighting and demands of immediate actions

One should learn how to meditate like the Asian...you may not get immediate results bit you do stay relevant around for a long long time.

  6. I am a Chinese by race and have never hidden this fact from the forum...I have done business with everyone including China...

I am looking at China being successful and having opportunities that will benefit the world as well. The world stand to lose if the 2nd biggest economy fails at this time when the world is fragile.

In Nov ...I believe the CCP will introduce measures to curb excessive spending on public projects while cutting the red tape to spur domestic consumption..this will have a direct impact on countries that are reliant on China buying namely Australia and Indonesia and African nations. I do hope then the valiant few who have been critiquing China would have governments that will pick up the slack

I remember a few years back in a project I was involved in where I went to USA to buy up bankrupt hotels ...did the Chinese owners gloat or made the Americans feel small ? No ...the business was respectfully conducted and everyone benefitted from the deal.

  7. If China gets aggressive in the East China Sea there will be only one military and honourable winner.

China was left in the dark ages with a vengeance...and is pitiful.

Hence the belligerent aggression from Beijing.

I do admire the stoic determination to see China get in a war and get blasted

Sadly it will not happen as the Chinese is more keen to make money than start a war that will consume much resources and make nothing

Japan on the other hand is quiet and dangerous much like a viper snake. They have done it in the past and can surprise you again

  8. Put yourself in their shoes for a moment. What do you think they are doing about it?

    Options are:

    Repression

    Do nothing

    Fake reform

Do enough to head off social unrest

    Full scale political reform

    Foreign distraction adventure

    etc, etc

Bottom line almost every politician wants to cling on to power, with legacy as a secondary objective. So motivation and thus responses tend to revolve around these two priorities.

China is at a vital crossroads managing a rebalancing of its economy while seeking to avoid social unrest. It is in everyone's interest that this hideously complicated manoeuvre is pulled off without major drama.

Political reform tends to follow economic reform but if the transition is too messy or involves a political collapse, this desired outcome can be material impacted and delayed, see Russia for more details.

To answer your question 'What do you think they are doing about it?' (in reference to their manifold challenges): from your options, I pick 'Fake Reform'

This may sound like a 'tree hugger' response (and I am, unabashedly a tree hugger): China's focus is all about people (particularly those who are rich and politically powerful), and money. People, money, people, money, ....on and on. When will they come to the realization that there are many other species plus terrain/sea to consider? Perhaps we should all resign ourselves to the idea that; since people and money are all that really matter, the environment can just tough it out as best it can, what little is left of it. Natural habitat and species (on land and in the sea) are disappearing on an hourly basis. Granted, it's worldwide, but China is at the vanguard of voracious destroyers. They're are better ways to go about it. It starts with an attitude that all natural habitat is worth preserving, and all species are special - not just humans.

The first National Park in the world was designated in the US (Yellowstone). The US now has a National Park network that is awesome. It wasn't smooth sailing. Yellowstone had army units (under General Sheridan, acting outside of gov't orders) stationed there for its first 30 years, to keep the railroads, miners, tree cutters, animal killers at bay - until Park Service staff were instated. What has China done to protect natural environment? What we see, are giant cities getting built, many of which nearly uninhabited. China uses 1/3 of the world's concrete. For what?

Give them time ...the world seems to be impatient that China gets everything right while being the biggest manufacturer of crap that the world needs...

It's almost like wishing your kid comes up tops in the the gifted program.

The secondary reform will promise a lot of retraction and reflection on personal consumption in Nov

I am not convinced that the crowds would stop buying at a quick rate as the marketing is sleek...latest figures in Sep predicts that China would overtake the USA in online buying by 2014 just in a short span of 15 years when alibaba first introduced it to the market.

This is a huge question mark...they need them to consume to take over the infrastructure spending ...however increasing personal consumption means increasing resources for production

How to you please everyone ...economics, environmentalist, nationalists and western opinions ? I sat in some sitting committees and my advice was always the same ...do what you are comfortable with first because you cannot please everyone and it's silly to try.

  9. Fact is Mantis, If China starts getting aggressive they will be blown out of the water.

HK and Taiwanese with a vengeance will be as much use to Beijing as a bent chopstick.

Been watching too much Saving Private Ryan ? The days of fear when the western powers can blow someone out of the water is long gone

We were talking abut being less aggressive right ?

It seems these days this is a rather weird dilemma ...the west have the best weaponry but fear having troops on the ground as they know they won't win while China and North Korea has the most troops in the world but less high tech bombs and missiles

I am betting on the history realms that China would come out tops ..technology never seem to beat man ...

  10. China is engaging a Singapore practice called economic defense

Bring trade ties to every country possible and tie up your own countries success through others by looking for alternative streams in every resource

This diversity spreads the risk and ensure adequate supplies without overexposing yourself

If you want a good example look at Australia ..they survived the last financial meltdown through trade with China but relying on china alone is bad practice as their slowdown means yours. Well intended or not.

Sent from my iPod touch using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

  11. Indeed this was the biggest dilemma of being CCP ...the scale alone defies anything ever managed before

When they were rock poor in the 70s, you had constant western barrage that the country needs rapid development to uplift the poor, increase living standards and prevent a human tragedy that will move through Asia .

When they have done that thru opening up to trade in the 80s, you had tons of western companies moving in with their cheap orders and trying to make the fastest buck forcing labor practices into the market that will make the EEO folk blush. This was also the start of a pollution and ecological disaster with no further thought of the future. If you asked why they were not vocal about it ...the reality was the western states were richer then and were bullies themselves in forcing this on the Chinese manufacturers

In the 90s they tried infrastructure development and found the silver bullet to manage the booming growth

Now in their latter years, they get the same barrage about the air pollution brought in through the 80s practices, human rights, shopping malls, obnoxious tourists, being too rich and buying up the world ....and being a bully

Wow to be Chinese is to be resilient and indeed for the next steps in economic reforms they should steer well clear of the western experts and opinions and just focus on being who they want to be and continue to diversify trade and ensure resources are available for their citizens and in the process try to undo a lot of the industrial pollution

I will bet 50 coins the next industrial dump of the west will be either ASEAN or India ...very sad if these countries allow economy to dictate that

By all means listen to the well intended but for the doomsayers and the negative folks ...it's just like listening to a yapping chihuahua ...lots of noise and little bite ...what a waste of time !

    An identity crisis

  12. It's not often that I agree with Publicus and disagree with LawrenceChee on one topic, but calling Japan an aggressive military country prone to further invasions is simply ridiculous - the reference to history is not only laughable but also devoid of any sense of reality . . . beware, Portugal is having a tough time and may again go on a worldwide rampage!!!

Japan has been a model world citizen for the past 60+ years, something that cannot be said for China.

Japan has a civilised society based on order and the rule of law - China advocates mass demonstrations against whichever happens to stoke the nationalist feelings of the day, brutally suppresses minorities and engages in ethnic cleansing of an insidious nature - akin to Indonesia's actions in Irian Jaya.

China is not 'misunderstood', its leaders are scared feces-less of the growing rift between rich/poor, country/city, peasant/educated . . . 100 million un- or underemployed which could severely test the power of the state.

Long may the Communist Party reign because if they ever lose power and 'democracy' steps in we shall all be in trouble.

Holmes concluded that whoever best combined sea, land and air forces stood a good chance of winning a conflict.

This is the important factor, a combination of the three arms of any military - is paramount and comparing sheer numbers is useless . . .

It saddens me to say this, especially as an ex Navy Lt (subs), but the Navy is now by far the least effective and important aspect of any military - it can disrupt but its effectiveness has been marginalised by medium and long range missiles.

On the final point in your post concerning the Navy as a modern fighting force, Navies are becoming the main combat and battle force of many Western countries. The Japanese continue to focus on their Navy with the Air Force and the Army in supporting roles. Australia is moving decisively in the same direction. Asean countries are building their navies, as is India. So is the CCP-PRC.

In the strategic war plan of the United States presently and going forward, the Navy and the Air Force are the paramount military forces. The Marines remain important while the Army is being downgraded as a component of combat and battle, war.

The AirSea Battle strategy of the US going forward focuses on the Navy and Air Force as a joint coordinated strike force, The US will fight its future battles and wars based on sophisticated integrated Air and Sea forces, supported by Marine forces. The Army is now a remote backup force. What good is an Army in Asia? Think Vietnam, as one instance - and of course Iraq and Afghanistan.

    I speak of conventional warfare.

Ultimately, it is the US Navy that has more nuclear weapons than either the Air Force or the Army. It is the US Navy that has this awesome and destructive force in numbers and in decisive force. It is the Navy that will deploy and take the coordinated lead in any nuclear warfare, supported by the Air Force.

The military commander in chief of all US forces in the Asia Pacific Theater is a navy four-star admiral headquartered at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (presently a Japanese-American).

To the United States, the Navy is the central combat force of present and, increasingly, future warfare both conventional and nuclear.

So fret not, my former naval friend. Even tho I was Army, I recognize present and future realities. For me its simple reality, but for you I can understand that some sentiment is involved. And your specialty, submarines, are integral to the whole thing.

New US destroyer deployed against China's Anti-Access strategy: US Navy

    Posted Image

Concept art of the Zumwalt-class stealth destroyers in operation. (Internet Photo)

The primary function of the US Navy Zumwalt-class stealth destroyers recently deployed to the Asia Pacific region is to counter the anti-access/area-denial (A2/AD) capabilities of China, reports party mouthpiece Global Times.

The new surface combat vessel is considered the future of the US Navy by admiral Jonathan Greenert, chief of naval operations, and will play an important role in supporting president Barack Obama's Asia Pivot Strategy.

The 15,000-ton USS Elmo Zumwalt DDG-1000's stealth design is able to reduce radar and sonar detection to the lowest levels of any destroyer in the world. It would be able to engage against Chinese warships in a littoral (shallower coastal waters) combat environment. The vessel's deadliest weapon system is its electronic rail gun that fires using electromagnetic pulses.

    http://www.wantchinatimes.com/news-subclass-cnt.aspx?cid=1101&MainCatID=11&id=20131017000112

This article best summarizes it all ...no matter how sophisticated the US Navy is and how battle plans look good in grids and charts, it's still ultimately the officers that bear the conduct of its operations.

As a fellow military man, it's sad to see someone with this amount of responsibility of being 2nd in command of nuclear weapons falling short of the integrity needed.

This fall in humanity is at times the biggest risk when compared to a fool up in North Korea who likes to ramble and most people understand he does it for food rather than any real claims.

Moderates understand the real threat of having someone in charge of nuclear weapons falling short in a casino or gambling ...the late Tom Clancy can spin a better tale compared to a lunatic leader from the North Korea that does not have the sophisticated weaponry he often threatens or the guys to carry it out.

    http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-24470259

  13. Yep.

So what is China gonna do?

    1) Continue to engage in peaceful talks with its neighbors, focus on increasing trade like the UK commercial nuclear plants announced today.

    2) not read TV comments and get pissed

    3) hope Japan would stop provoking them and South Korea and all nations affected by the war . The annual visit to the shrine at its politicians insistence in honoring war criminals is just inappropriate and does nothing to ease the tension

    1) Beijing negotiates publically only after all of its conditions have already been agreed to in private. Thus, Beijing is seldom involved in negotiations because other governments do not agree to privately capitulating to absolute demands. The CCP's notions of what negotiations are and how they are conducted are bizarre, highly risky, egocentric.

    2) Hard for the CCP and its types to do.

3). Japanese PM Shinzo Abe did not visit the Yasakuni war shrine this time. Japan is a peaceful nation that has spent the past 60+ years peacefully building an advanced and extremely wealthy country and population and in developing Japanese style democracy. Japan provoking no one. Japanese culture is popular throughout East Asia and promotes positive attitudes in the region towards Japan. Japan is a principal target of Beijing's designs to become the regional power of East Asia. Japan, by being Japan, stands in Beijing's way. This will not change.

    4) The CCP spends more on internal security forces than it does on its armed forces. That's what dictators do.

    1) Asians negotiate this way so that the government officials do not fall flat and look stupid later. It's used in business engagements all the time , move the thorny issues aside and anything potentially embarrassing for both sides. The republicans can learn from the CCP on that and avoid what they just did 2 weeks ago. Started with lots of bravado and now looking very very unreliable and reckless, and not thinking of the big picture.

    2) Yes anger is quite a human trait and I can only see them take offense to some extreme views, emotive rather than objective at times

    3) strange how you put that China thinks Japan is in its way of being Asia superpower. That was exactly the Japanese way of thinking 60 years ago when they attacked USA and China in the hope of neutralizing the 2 biggest threats to it being a regional superpower.

As you put in earlier threads, Japan has the most advanced navy and weaponry on the region and China is correct in its stance in protecting itself and its citizens to ensure a repeat does not happen.

Abe did not visit the shrine for the 3rd time running but he also failed to stop the other politicians from doing so. This act is viewed as a remembrance of its past and makes its neighbors uneasy. the shrine contains remains of 1068 convicted war criminals by its allies including 14 Class A criminals. You don't see Germany or Italy honoring theirs as they know how distasteful this is.

    4) Budgets budgets budgets ...get your own house right before it gives you a right to critique the rest of the world how they want to spend their $.

Made enough money for Mr Wang to buy up AMC cinema and build a new giant film studio in Qingdao that will produce more hits for the local market.

Not sure why this incident will be pulled into the forum and called worrisome action except its china bashing season.

I don't believe there is another market that makes it easier for the competitors...did you catch Ip Man movie in LA or Miami lately ? It was a great movie ...

  16. Never described in any of my posts that a bubble would end well or the bubble would be managed to zero effect.

The CCP is an imperfect government like any others around the world and decidedly in economic field have made a decision to move ahead and reduce the effects of the bubble and create a more sustainable economic model for its people

That is the right direction to go and having the right political courage to make positive changes.

Not one country can sustain a failure on any of the large economies around be it China, Japan, Germany , UK or USA the world without having an ill effect on is own citizens.

Correctly any country or government that believes in diversifying from china investments or assets is the right thing to do and in its best interests should do so.

Similarly those that believe a closer collaboration is healthy should also do so.

  17. As for the point of corruption, I ask you state a comparison point by point on real data with western democratic states

Since Xi & Li came into government, 129 senior government officials have been investigated and have jail sentences handed out including the most high profile one for Bo XiLai

They heard their people, they understand the frustrations and they acted. I can't see any other swifter justice dishes out anywhere else in comparison.

Even in UK with the huge scandal on allowances reimbursement with the MPs and the Lords...there was no adequate punishment and I wonder why.

On the ground, I can share that the recent grind down on showy government dinners and entertainment is indeed true and not a show as most international hotels would report back that there is a slowdown in bookings from government agencies in comparison to past years

The dieheart critiques will continue to bash China, the moderates understand and like the direction they are going with their governance

China's economy is too big to fail and the bubble is still a bubble that is treatable if the right and firm steps are taken and the potential is realized

I am truly sorry it has already burst in the USA ...many of my friends have suffered in recent years in the states and I hope politically they get it right to correct it.

Ordinary people are being played around with their lives when governments act like it's their right to dictate party lines along with government policies ...sad.

The ancient Greeks taught us about hubris and how destructive hubris is to human endeavors.

The Chinese missed that one too, hubris. You are full of it.

The CCP and you believe it can control a $22 trillion property market bubble? The equally huge bank credit bubble? The shadow banking system out of control huge debt? The local government illicit and already defaulting debt that amounts to as much as a third of GDP? CCP corruption is thousands of times worse than any instance of Western corruption you can point to.

    You kid yourselves.

Western and other governments around the world, global banks, global investment houses and the like have already begun to draw plans for a global economy post-crash CCP-PRC economy. Such planning began only this year, as the myth of the CCP's economy being invincible has suddenly become starkly apparent.

You're in for the shock of your life. All of you.

Yes I guess doing nothing equates to good governance in your books

If everyone in the world gave up at the first sight of trouble, there is no leadership.

Credit is due when the current Chinese govt is trying to do something to rein it in and make it better.

They may not be the government in 10 years to resolve the bubble, but they have jump start the need for action to make sure it does not get worse and the world benefits from that.

Far better in my books than a whole lot of lawmakers who made a decision to make a decision later in a few months.

That's weak leadership at its best..I will keep a lookout for the case study at the next Harvard Business Review on communication and negotiation failures at top leadership levels and it's impact on creditability

  18. As for the point of corruption, I ask you state a comparison point by point on real data with western democratic states

  19. That is inaccurate.

One only have to take the hexia line with their new trains and consider the volume of people they transport everyday and marvel at the scale of operations.

They compare favorably against any train system in the world even though like any system it is not perfect. I would say the amtrak is an embarrassment to train enthusiasts instead with its infrastructure and little modernization since inception

  20. This thread may be of interest to our readers. It's about the UK changing the visa regulations for the Chinese, which will make it easier for them to travel to the UK.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/674468-uk-visa-changes-bbc-report/#entry6922353

They are also starting a new VIP expedited visa next day approval device where they visit you at your office or home to have the visa processed.

Great for high street and those in the tourism business ...a boom will happen there and in the business arena as the Chinese do think highly of the Brits...after all we all drink tea

The UK government is finally reciprocating Beijing.

That is, since Deng's opening up of the CCP's economy in 1979, two passports in the PRC are said by foreigners with experience in the PRC to be "gold." They are for passport holders from the UK and the USA. The CCP wants our expertise, our technology, our advanced levels of education, our willingness to focus on economics and finance - and to teach English - and our overall eagerness to develop the PRChina market to our mutual benefit.

However, the PRChinese have had to jump through flaming hoops to get into the UK or the USA, where there continue to be strict controls over CCP state owned corporations making investments or making acquisitions, to include mergers, or to become employed in the domestic economy of either country. (PRChinese students have become all the more welcome in hugely record numbers in each country, and, closer to home, in Australia or Hong Kong.)

The present move by the UK is a reciprocation of decades of the UK passport being "gold" in the CCP-PRC. Indeed, the UK's technological inventions and their application to visa processing procedures are another dimension contrasted to the CCP-PRC's laborious and circuitous visa application procedures and processes.

The USA continues to be highly restrictive towards CCP entering the USA. The Confucius Institutes are the prime example.

Funded entirely by the CCP, the Confucius Institutes are accepted by universities in various countries throughout the world, to include N America, Europe, Australia. They provide CCP personnel for cultural education and, interestingly, provide grant funds to the host universities - grants of money, no repayment required.

However, the Confucius Institutes are controlled by the CCP in Beijing. So when the Institutes suddenly prohibited discussion of whether Taiwan is a sovereign country or a province of the CCP-PRC, and prohibited discussion of issues such as Tibet or Xin Jiang, among other topics the CCP doesn't want to be contradicted on, Prez Obama ordered all CCP Confucius Institutes' teaching personnel in the United States to have to return to the CCP-PRC to get visa renewals. No more going to the US Embassy in Canada or in Mexico, whichever is more convenient geographically - or even to Venezuela or to or a US Embassy in a Caribbean country etc.

And the Confucius Institute personnel are having a truckload of fun trying to get a visa renewed at the US Embassy in Beijing or at the US Consular General Offices in Chengdu or Guangzhou on the mainland. N-o-t. They'll grow a Confucius beard before they get a visa renewed to return to their respective Confucius Institute in the United States.

And good luck to any new CCP cadre trying to enter the United States to replace the lost CCP teaching cadre of existing Confucius Institutes. The result is a lot less teaching by a gradually decreasing number of CCP cadre at Confucius Institutes in the United States while the grant monies to US universities continue to flow.

    Message made, point clear.

Still, however, the USA passport in the CCP-PRC remains "golden". They need us more than we need them, if we need them at all.

As for China needing USA more, you are wrong ..most of the Chinese corp are steering clear of the USA ...after the first spun of sinopec about 2 decades ago ...it's interesting to see China engaging actively everyone in the globe except the USA ...almost an inverted C shape when you look at China's trade and investments if you will.

So yes there are countries that is increasing trying to stay relevant in a new economy model driven largely by China

I don't think the embassy staff were overtly impressed by the technology more the convenience and preference given to the Chinese which will probably piss their own citizens off as their visa and consular services even for passport applications and renewals is getting tougher with the consolidation of services and budgetary cuts

And if one critique the visa application process of China ...remember even when they adopt some western practices ..aren't they still communist ?

So why would expect it to be easy ...unless you do have a Singapore, Japan or Brunei passport which gives u 14 day visa free to enter and leave at will.

  21. With respect Lawrence, this thread is not about the issues of the US government, it is about China, the Chinese economy and the global economic implications.

With respect Singlepot, any critique of the Chinese government and it's governance ability deserves a fair comparison with governments of economies of similar scale.

If China's current government policies are ineffective, I am objective enough to want to see if there is a viable or better alternative.

I think they as holding true to their own ideology while adopting western business practices that suit their needs and the demographics.

At the moment, I believe this is the best model for them at their scale and their global connectivity.

I would find it unconvincing if there is still a huge group out there who think china is still purely communist in thinking or government economic actions.

  22. National People's Congress

Under China's 1982 constitution, the most powerful organ of state is meant to be the National People's Congress (NPC), China's parliament. In truth, it is little more than a rubber stamp for party decisions.

I suppose by that you are defining most governments in the democratic sense where unless the whip is lifted you will vote along the party lines.

Most Americans would rather have a rubber stamp moment now just to get out of this financial mess where parties ego are affecting the average man on the street more

Seen Singapore lately since their independence like 45 years ago ? Same political party PAP with as little as 2 opposition members in the parliament for most of the years until lately and would you define that country as a failure or evil ?
