  1. . This is one of very few crimes where local vigilante justice is called for..... A very violent, very public, very permanent justice.
  2. . One day about two years ago I realized I'd gone a few days without a drink. Guess I was just tired of it. I still have one every so often, and find I no longer enjoy it. Easy for me I guess because I have a non-addictive personality; just ask any of the women who have known me.
  3. . Do you have an ATM card from your banks in Oz? Unverified, but I read on another thread today that you can take that into your Thai bank and transfer money using that card and its PIN. Perhaps someone else here can confirm whether or not that is doable.
  4. What's you phone do to get to you, call a taxi?
  5. . I completely understand the move..... Nothing worse than a drunk virus that will go home with anyone.
  6. . If they're such smart phones, why can't they find you....?
  7. . I tried a few times, out of curiosity, to sell American Gold Eagles.... Might as well have been copper for what they offered. .
  8. . Thanks much. So I use a credit card to buy online and they ship to my house, insured? Can I resell them anywhere but Aurora? I take it Thai people would be very familiar with the bars and would not hesitate to trust them?
  9. . Thanks, guys. That means I don't have to shop around beyond finding someone with a good attitude. Only interested in those tiny bullion bars. Ever been any instances of fraud in those?
  10. . Really, I had no idea this could be done! So I can go into Bangkok Bank, swipe my stateside ATM card at the teller window, enter PIN, and transfer money into my Bangkok Bank for a couple of bucks? What is the maximum one can transfer, if any, with one swipe? I usually just call my credit union every couple of months and wire transfer any amount for a flat fee of $30, but this saves talking on the phone for ten minutes.
  11. . Are gold shops regulated as far as pricing, or can they charge/pay what they choose per baht?
  12. . Understood. And I agree many expats deserve a wide berth. But... My local (ex-suicidal) friend is now in his 40s and works online, married with three kids. He and I talk numerous times every week. The married couple who are in the States are approaching fifty, with two wild boys. He works 50 hours a week as a plumber. Both are enormously generous with their time. The guys stateside are now actively spending lots of time trying to sell my truck. It is not easy finding friends like these, but rest assured, they are out there..... On the other hand, have you ever noticed it is often easier opening up to strangers than acquaintances? A study was actually done confirming this. Some one earlier suggested calling Good Samaritans.....
  13. No checkpoint in any case, but if they come back, my friend's Thai wife was vaxxed, he was not, and they waved both through a couple of weeks ago.
  14. . I have a friend who is the recipient of a trust fund. He will never have to work. Prior to covid, he stayed in many countries for 9 months, or more. Was he not a tourist? tour·ist | ˈto͝orəst | noun 1 a person who is traveling or visiting a place for pleasure:
  15. . I do have family back in the States. I can't count on them for anything other than large doses of judgment. But, I have a friend in the States, and one here in Thailand, that I could count on for anything. In fact, one of them was about to kill himself several years ago, when we met right here, on Thai Visa, he asking how to get to Thailand (a last ditch effort to prevent suicide) and how to bring his dog (who gave him comfort). I responded to his post. He drove to the airport, left his car in the parking garage, and was here two days later. The rest is history. If you are in a very rural atmosphere, might it be you are missing out on such a potential friendship? You certainly sound like a very decent guy with a strong mind; I can't imagine any difficulty in your finding friends like mine, though it might take some time. I wish you the best.
  16. . Yep, I agree. Been hanging on KC for years and it used to be wonderful..... Now parts of it it look like a war zone in third world country.
  17. . As of a few days ago no more checkpoint at the big mushroom..... That is subject to change in the blink of an eye, of course.
