For Phuket Sandbox, the medical insurance is minimum US$100,000 for the entire duration of your stay.

Up 60% from which base line?

I think you have misunderstood my post. I mean will insurance be accepted if it doesn't last the entire length of our visa?
At this moment, it's anybody's guest. The general assumption is 30 days insurance would be sufficient to cover covid infection when tested on arrival. I have not read any report that people are denied entry with 30 days insurance cover. You do not require covid insurance when you decide to extend your stay beyond your allowed stay.

So I'm staying as a tourist at the Shangri-La or Oriental hotel in Bangkok as a first time "quality" tourist and decide to stay another 30 days because I like the country so much. I have to go all the way to immigration in person to extend my stay and they tell me "need TM30 sir, no have, cannot". I say "OK and will leave in that case". So much for Thailand wanting quality tourists to come.
How do you think the tourist going to find out? The 5-star hotels may register the guest but not all hotels or guest houses. The tourist will only find out when he goes to the Immigration office for his extension.

If staying as tourist and at a hotel then how would one even know what the hell a TM30 is? It's the hotel's responsibility to file. Even if at a rented condo (airbnb) then a tourist could not be expected to know. As a long term stayer on anything other than a tourist visa/extension then the situation is different IMO.
So long a tourist wants an extension from the Immigration office, he/she will soon find out. Otherwise, no need to know.

Probably meant going into the third year of the pandemic (which will be correct in a couple of months).
You are very kind to the OP and he has been busy.

All forgiven and well. No curfew in Phuket until the next wave hit.

Yes I've been here for about 6 months...when I arrived, all the gyms were closed at some times by government order and at other times because the soi was deserted...with just a couple restos and the "Seven" open. Since the sandbox, and especially the Nov. entry easing, things have really picked-up...many young adults have returned for their muay Thai training.
You have been here for 6 months... and you are asking

Must be a very slow day for you or trolling.

Great update on Phuket procedures. Does anyone know if they are still grandfathering Visa OA holder's insurance requirements for extension of stays?
There is no grandfathering of Visa OA holder's insurance requirement for extension of stay at Phuket Immigration. They implemented the law correctly. I renewed my extension without the need of insurance. Kudos to Phuket Immigration.

I am yet to see a definitive answer on how long insurance is needed for expats on long term visas.
Will 30 days be accepted or does it need to last until the expiration of the visa extension?
Does anybody have any experience with this?
I spoke to someone who said that if you get insurance which ends before your extension of stay then they will only stamp you in for as long as the duration of the insurance. Which would mean having to apply for an extension of stay again within 30 days of arrival.
Covid insurance duration and expiry date of extension of stay are two separate issues. Covid insurance is for Thailand Pass application and the extension of stay is a Immigration matter. Do they ask you for covid insurance when you apply for your extension of stay? No!

It is required. Ask the hotel to file the TM30 for you. If they cannot, move to another one that can.

4500THB for 7 days in this traditional high season period is a steal. Ok, it is still pandemic period but is still reasonable. The 4000THB I presume is for airport transfer and PRC test which is also reasonable. PCR test varies from 2500THB to 4000THB.

Some paranormal activities must be going on in this housing estate (Phuket Villa California). Two vehicle accidents on the same day involving automatic vehicles.

Thanx for the advice but i told them straight, its only for 12 months and i have no intention whatsoever of renewing -
If they are honest, they will send you a reminder a month before renewal (you will have to react if you don't want it). Otherwise check your bank account after 1 year.

It was me who commented to a previous post. If of relevance to OP when I made my booking for hotel that is required for Thai Pass on the site was a service to apply for Thai Pass on your behalf
I submitted all the documents to them and within two hours I had my Thai Pass at a cost of approx B2,900. The bonus for you if not computer savvy is that they will accept documents in both pdf and tpg format and submit all in tpg format as required by Thai Pass
Good new line of revenue for hotel and at the same time good customer service.

I dont have any dealings with Bkk - My experiences are solely based in Phuket. I went into the local Immigration office in Patong, Phuket & told them i wanted to open up a bank account. I showed them my passport & paid 500 baht. They gave me a residency certificate which had my picture on it. They took my picture themselves.
I then took this to Bangkok Bank but they insisted that i take out one of their accident insurances. I didnt want to but i eventually agreed because i needed an account there and then.
Cheapest 12 month policy was 5900 baht - plus 500 baht deposit into account plus 500 baht deposit for an ATM card - Job done.
You need to try to be more clear about what it is that you are actually trying to achieve here long term so as people can advise you accordingly.

Be careful, this insurance policy is annually re-newed. You may have to cancel it when the time comes. SCB has similar insurance policy but costs only 599THB annually.

The vaccination certificate includes your passport number.
They should be able to cross reference between their databases ??
The Phuket Public Health Office should have a list of people vaccinated in Phuket. Unfortunately, the various Thai Ministries do not talk to each other.

The winds of change.........
I've been on Phuket for just over two months and the weather has been predominantly rubbish and I have been caught out four times on Bangla and been forced into "distress purchases" of the nasty (but extremely effective) rain coats to make it home reasonably dry.
However, at the end of last week the predominant wind seemed to shift from easterly to westerly and the last few days have been pretty good with plenty of sunshine and blue skies. The downside is that the sewers are starting to stagnate and, for the first time this visit, last night I got that nostalgic aroma on a couple of occasions as I was walking along Bangla!
When I look around at the major road improvements made over the last 18 months (Beach Road, Rat-U-Tit, Third Road (in progress) and the Patong-Kamala road, how can the main night-time tourist hub on the entire island be left in this state?
Nothing surprising. The "mess" is part and parcel of the experience of Patong all this while.

I was in and out within the hour.
Done for another year.
Sad that they are asking you for a copy of yours, OP.
The motto is always be prepared especially when you read that other places have been asking for it. It is cleared that the vax cert is not a requirement for renewal of permit to stay.

The IO was asking for it when going through the required document submitted with the application. Not at entry to Immigration building. Another person who was also applying for renewal has his on his phone and was asked to get a printout.
Today I went to collect my passport and took the opportunity to ask the IO why he requested for a copy of vaccination certificate yesterday. He said his "boss" wants to know how many expats in Phuket are vaccinated. Nothing to do with new requirement for extension of stay. All is well. Apologies for any alarm caused.

Went in this afternoon to collect back the passport after approval of extension. Took the opportunity to ask the IO outside Rm103 about the copy of vaccination certificate requested yesterday. He said his "boss" wants to know how many expats are vaccinated only. Not a new requirement for extension of stay application. All is well.

Phuket Sandbox insurance length - returning to Thailand for residents
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
All kind of visa, re-entry permit, etc., have stay up to date. If you are smart, choose one that gives you the shortest stay and get insurance for that. There after, you can extend in Thailand without insurance. Too bad for those with re-entry permit especially those who has just renewed their annual extension of stay. Otherwise come back nearer to your next extension. This medical insurance requirement is different from the Test and Go scheme (US$50,000).
