  1. I just did the TV speedtest from BKK to the Singapore server and get terrible performance... 43kbps down/ 83 up.

However, using the Speakeasy speedtests to the US servers is a lot better. 1316 down/ 388 up.

Not sure what's going on here... before the earthquake i could get a 2mb connection to singapore and less than a meg to the States. Now it seems to be the opposite.

    I'm using a 2Mb True home connection.

  2. Anyway I am considering a 360. I was quoted 16000 chipped and ready to go. There seems to be a fine collection of very good games available already i.e. Oblivion, Gears of War, Dead Rising. What is the general opinion on the 360? Am I making the right move in getting one now, or should I wait and get a PS3? Also, what do I do with my old Xbox if I get the new one?

At the moment there are far better games on the 360 than PS3 and that's not likely to change for quite sometime. Saying that, i always preferred the PS2 selection of games over the Xbox so i've no doubt that Sony will balance the scales sooner rather than later. Which is console is better though? Well there's probably whole websites dedictated to this topic already. I'm sure you'd be happy with either of them and if you can't decide then get them both.

  3. I've just copied 32gb of music from my old ipod to my new one. There is an easy way to do this.

    1. Download the program called Sharepod.

    2. Connect your ipod to the computer you downloaded sharepod on.

    3. Unzip sharepod and copy all the files to your Ipod which will be in My Computer as a new drive.

    4. Run sharepod executable from your ipod drive.

    5. Select all your music and click copy to PC.

6 Specify a folder where you'd like your files to be saved then continue.

That should be it. I've done this a lot in the past to give other people albums off my iPod and i've just transferred everything to a new iPod using this method. Never had a problem.

  4. I'd love to pick up a Ps3 now and was offered one at Art/Gun MBk for 45,000. Can't justify it though as i still use the 360 a lot.

With regards to the link about backward compatability, i wouldn't be too bothered. No point spending a fortune on console if you are only going to play your old ps2 games on it.

Looking forward to the Nintendo though, i'll pick one up when it comes out and get the PS3 when the price drops a bit. This is where Nintendo should luck out... PS3 too pricey so many people will buy a Wii instead.

  5. Cheers for the replies... i got my last pair in a shop in MBK, i forget the name. Good service but not too many frames i liked at that time.

Better Vision website is a ".co.th not a ".com" - i'll shop around and check out all your suggestions.

    Thanks again!

  6. Congrats to all those who have given up the weed or have made an effort to quit. I really hope to be joining you soon but feel like if i try now i will not be giving it 100%.

I've been smoking for 18 years (since i was 15), more or less a 20 a day habit unless i'm drinking and you can bump that up to 40 or more. I work on a ship 4 weeks on 4 weeks off... i'm at work now but am due back in Bangkok in a few days time.

I am planning to quit smoking when i come back to work next time in just over 4 weeks from now. I reckon it should be easier as i don't get any alcohol on board and that is going to be the time i really miss a cigarette in my hand.

I just wondered what others who have stopped think. Should i set a date like this, or is it better to just throw them away now and say never again?

  7. Just saw this thread and thought i'd throw my tuppence in. I don't do business in Thailand but i have emailed quite a few distributors of Hi Fi equipment in Bangkok and have had replies to all my enquiries.

Is it just sales people who reply or have i just been lucky?

  8. Sounds like a HDD problem to me. I remember we had a Toshiba laptop that wouldn't run due to a bad hard disk. It would boot up after it was left to cool down for a while (or the HD put in the freezer), managed to recover most files but quite a lot was still unreadable.

Your problem sounds a little different but could still be related to overheating.

  9. I just went to Amazon.co.uk to add up the UK price of the 360 + the 4 games i bought and the total was 29,211 bt at today's exchange rate. It would of been more than that 6 months ago as some of the games have come down in price now.

The same package at Amazon.com today is 590 US... so say 22,000 baht.

All 360's are imported in Thailand and if you want to own one here, your best bet is to bring one back from overseas or just pay the higher premium they charge here.

  10. Compared to the US then sure, the price may seem high. However, i come from the UK and the console with 1 game will set you back 300 pounds sterling there - thats 21,000 baht.

Add on 3 new games priced at 39 quid each then the Thai price i paid doesn't look so bad.

Certainly no bargain but comparable with the UK. Although saying that, UK prices are pretty much a rip off anyway.

  11. Got mine around 6 months ago in MBK - 20Gb HD, controller, remote, step-down transformer + 4 games (Burnout, Oblivion, GRAW, DOA4) for 28,000bt. You get a good deal on the games here, cheaper than the UK. EA games especially, go for around 1500 baht.

That was 6 months ago so you ought to get a slightly better deal on the console now.

  12. Word of waring to you... the worst food i've ever eaten in Thailand was at the international departures terminal in Suvarnabhumi. :o Cold, dry, tasteless, very poorly presented, overpriced and had to wait a long time for the pleasure.

The airport was only on it's 2nd day of opening so i really hope things have improved since then. However, next time i'll be sure to eat before i go there.

  13. In MBK i usually go to shop called Gun and Game (or maybe Game and Gun)... it's on the 6th floor. Just a counter really not so much a shop but they have quite a lot of accesories for consoles as do the other few shops around them.

  14. Is there such a thing as a teleconference phone for Skype (the ones you stick in the middle of a meeting table).

We have some permanently outposted staff in India and Vietnam and have been trying to involve them in our regular staff meetings.

Konftel make an audio conferencing unit which has very good quality sound. Not really a phone though, essentially just a speaker unit and a mic. You can connect it to any phone (landline, cell or Skype).

We have one in the office (not Thailand) a Konftel 50, the Konftel 60W includes bluetooth i believe. Good but not sure of their availability in Asia.
