  1. There's plenty of fish in the gulf, but you need to put the time in. It obviously depends where you're fishing, but it also depends on when. I've been on expensive trips where I chartered a big boat and only caught small fish, and I've been on small boats and caught big fish. And on both sizes of boats I've had many, many days/nights where I caught nearly nothing. Yes, the gulf is overfished due to a lack of (or no) regulations, but there are fish. You don't have to pay for an expensive boat to catch fish... the locals know where to find fish. But like I said, even though there is a spot that typically holds fish, it depends on if they're biting that day. If I was going to spend loads of cash on a fishing boat, I'd opt for the 7 Seas Pro Shop boat that operates out of Pattaya. I've seen many videos of them jigging up loads of quality fish.

Edit: Also don't forget the freshwater fish. Snakeheads (plaa chon and plaa chado) are a really powerful and fun fish to catch and they're all over Thailand.

  2. Hi,

The name of the shop is Help Service. It is located on the 3rd floor of Phantip Plaza in Room 363. The technician's name is Woodtichai Uooncamme, E-mail [email protected]. Telephone number 085-100-0811.

I told him about your situation today and asked him if he had the parts on hand to replace your motherboard and possibly more. He said that he does and estimated a cost of around 8,000 BHT.

Good luck with getting your computer fixed.

Awesome, thanks for that info. I'll get in touch with him soon.

  3. There is a very good Mac repair shop that seems to carry lots of parts in Phantip with at least one very helpful young technician. I can't remember the name right now but it is in the front part of the building on floor 3 or 4. I'm going to Phantip in a day or two and I will look up the name and post it here.

    Thanks!

  4. I'm looking for a respectable MacBook repair shop in Bangkok. Are there any that have parts like logic boards, dvd drives, etc. in stock already and don't have to send your computer to Singapore for repairs? After living on an island for 9 months, first my power adapter got fried from the bad electrical and then since my MacBook had no protection from the adapter, the MacBook got fried next. So I'm pretty sure the logic board and maybe other components need to be replaced. Thanks.

  5. I've done a bit of saltwater fishing... everything from the more expensive chartered trips, to just going out on tiny Thai boats with friends, to fishing off the piers, to fishing off the beaches. I live a bit south of Chonburi in Trat province. I'll give you a rundown of some of my trips. Hopefully it'll give you some useful info.

The chartered trips have not produced for me, although i've seen some companies in Pattaya that seem to have nice results. 7 Seas Pro Shop (the shop at Bungsamran Lake) has a fishing boat that operates out of Pattaya. They do lots of jigging trips. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=7+seas+jigging It's expensive though. At the islands around Trat and also at Koh Samui and Koh Tao I've done boat fishing trips. About 3,500 - 5,000 baht for a big boat for the day. The only fish I caught out of 3 fishing trips was a 1 kilo golden snapper.

As far as sharks, I've heard of people catching them, but they're small... like 2kg. There's definitely bigger sharks around, but I don't hear about anybody catching them.

A Thai friend of mine took me out on a small boat. We were catching small barracuda (~1 kilo) all night long.

At the islands I've done a lot of fishing from the piers with my Thai friends. I never got a big one, but my friends have. Out of 30 trips to the pier, he caught 2 queenfish at about 5 kilos each. A nice sized cobia went for my baitfish as I was reeling in and he missed it.

On the mainland I've fished a lot at the piers. Lately I've had good luck with the saltwater catfish (plaa got). Each time I've went I've got a 1.5 kilo catfish. I used cut squid and the bait was sitting out for about an hour. Last year I fished at the piers in the daytime. On one trip I caught 2 stingrays: one about 8 kilos and one about 4 kilos. The other times I caught nothing.

Another time I went out with some friends on a small boat. This time it was at the mouth of a river that goes to the ocean in Chanthaburi province. The water was muddy, but we caught small (0.25 kilo) saltwater catfish all day.

Basically, the best thing to do is to go fishing with your Thai friends. You'll start getting invited onto boats, or to places foreigners don't go to or know about.

For bait, at the piers I prefer squid over shrimp because there's so many small fish and crabs that will eat shrimp pretty quickly. Squid stays on your hook for much longer. I've used live shrimp quite a bit, but that hasn't produced for me in the ocean. In brackish waters I've caught some nice sized catfish (plaa dook) on live shrimp. At the piers and on boats I like using live bait... sometimes with a float, sometimes flylined.

  6. There is no limit on the number of days you can be in the country during any period of time on tourist visas or visa exempt entries.

Normally the only limitation is the number of back to back visas you can get from one location. But there are some embassies and consulates that have been reported as not doing a visa because a person had several already (Vientiane is not one of them).

The last visa run I did was in Vientiane and everybody (hotels, visa agents, visa run companies) was saying how they'll only issue you 2 double-entry tourist visas now. Also they don't allow agents to get your visa on your behalf anymore, you have to go in person to the consulate.

  7. It's usually one of the following combinations:

    user: admin

    password: password

    user: admin

    password: <blank>

    user: admin

    password: 1111100000

admin/password is always the first one I try. Either I mistyped or just forgot to try that one.

Also, FYI, for TOT their routers have their own logins, but it's usually on the sticker on the router. My last router from TOT was admin/tot.

  8. I couldn't login to my router to change the network name, so I figured the technicians changed the default Cisco router username and password when setting up the internet/router. I reset the router and tried all the different default Cisco modem/router login combinations, but none worked. Does True Online have their own username/password combination, and does anybody know what it is? Or do they set the default login to be unique to each customer? I have the paperwork from when they set it up, but I don't see any login information other than the wireless login info they wrote down. I tried that as the router login info and it didn't work. Does anybody know if there's a default login for True Online's routers, or if it's a custom login for each customer, what is the format of the login info? Thanks

  9. I'm taking the bus from where I live to Nakhon Ratchasima and then hopefully directly to Vientiane. I found some information on Google and here already, but it's somewhat dated. Can somebody tell me if there's a direct bus from Korat to Vientiane and if so what time it leaves? If there's no direct bus, what is the next best option? I'd prefer to avoid taxis/tuk-tuks if possible.

    The Gist

I'm currently seeking full-time employment in Eastern Thaland (Pattaya, Chonburi, Chanthaburi, Trat) related to web design and front-end development with a company who can offer a work permit. I have 17 years of web design and programming experience and have worked for many large and well-known global corporations such as Warner Brothers, Pepsi, Ogilvy & Mather, Sanyo, Isuzu, Lionsgate, Tomy, and Audi. My designs have won awards from well-known publications and organizations, such as Communcation Arts, and my coding has been used on many high-traffic corporate websites.

    Skills

My core strengths are graphic design, HTML 4 & 5, CSS 2 & 3, JavaScript, Flash, and ActionScript. I love jQuery and Bootstrap and lately have been developing responsive websites. I'm an expert with Photoshop and Flash. Over the years, I've picked up the basics of many different programming languages and technologies, so I have a very good general understanding of most of the popular web technologies in use. I frequently code in PHP with MySQL, however for this full-time position I'd like to find something that deals with the front-end. Additionally, I have a great deal of experience organizing small teams of outside contractors to take a website from concept to completion. Because of my understanding of PHP and other languages, I can closely monitor the entire process to ensure everything is completed correctly and on time.

Other skills that I posses, but don't necessarily market myself as an expert of, are photography, copywriting, proofreading, SEO and print design.

    About

I'm a United States citizen and a native English speaker. I'm 31 years old, male, and am currently living in Trat, Thailand. If I find a good position I will relocate to your area. Something I like to address from the beginning is that I have a stutter. Sometimes it's not bad, but other times it's difficult for me to communicate. If a position requires a great deal of telephone conversations, public speaking, etc, then it would not be a good fit for me.

    Portfolio / Contact

For my bio, resume, work examples, and contact information, please visit the link below. You can also send me a message on ThaiVisa.

Two recent responsive design projects that haven't been added to the portfolio yet can be seen at:

    http://www.the10thvail.com/ and http://www.gamecreekvail.com/

For these two websites, I was responsible for the front-end coding and PHP/MySQL backend using a customized WordPress installation.

    Thank you for your time,

  11. Take a nice bottle of whisky like Black label , and you'll be fine.

dont turn up with a bottle of Hong Tong, sang som, or even a bottle of loa cow.

Word will get around, and it will be the last party you are invited to biggrin.png

I don't hang out with those people. If someone doesn't invite me to a party because they think I'm "kii nieow" than that's great and saves me a lot of time. Based on the comments here I decided to bring a bottle of Red Label to the party. My friend was upset that I bought it. He told me it was too expensive and to take it back to the shop LOL. He kept giving it back to me, but finally he gave in and took it. He would only drink the Blend 285 he bought for the party and didn't want to open the Red Label. He wanted to save it. We ended up getting really drunk and drinking it later that night though........ whistling.gif He's a really good person.

  12. Thanks for all the good replies. She does drink with my friend and I occasionally so I'm pretty sure she'll be drinking tonight. I'm not even sure where to buy flowers around here and I don't have a lot of money, so I think I'll just pick up a decent bottle of whiskey. Thanks again.

  13. I'm going to my good friend's wife's birthday party later today. According to my friend we're going to drink more whiskey tonight than should be humanly possible. I want to bring something to the party, but even though we'll be drinking whiskey it seems like bringing a bottle of whiskey wouldn't be appropriate. Also I know in Thailand it's typically the responsibility of the birthday person to supply drinks and food for their guests. So, what should I bring? Should I bring whiskey or some type of gift? Or nothing?

  14. Rule number 1 to live here as a foreigner. Always stay out of Thai conflicts especially in the bar scene. Last week a Thai was beating up his wife in front of a fuel station Bang Na. Your instinct says to give help. Later other Thais guys hit him with a brick on his scull.

Unfortunately this is true, especially if you're somewhere without many foreigners. I was at a local Thai nightclub and a guy was smacking around some girl out front. There were probably around 30 Thai people out front who couldn't be bothered by this and almost seemed bored, just slouching over casually watching. A few of them were even off-duty police officers. It wasn't easy to watch but intervening would have been a mistake. I think the only way you'll get "hit with a brick on your scull" is if the girl's family are there or hear about it and come around.

  15. If you're worried about not getting another one, wherever you go to get a new visa use an agent instead of going yourself. You will pay more but there's a much better chance of not running into any problems. At the consulate it's you vs. the government official. If you use an agent it's a local vs. local and them denying you means no money for the local agent. I haven't seen this confirmed, but I've been on tourist visas for a year now without issues and I use an agent every time.
