The Gist
I'm currently seeking full-time employment in Eastern Thaland (Pattaya, Chonburi, Chanthaburi, Trat) related to web design and front-end development with a company who can offer a work permit. I have 17 years of web design and programming experience and have worked for many large and well-known global corporations such as Warner Brothers, Pepsi, Ogilvy & Mather, Sanyo, Isuzu, Lionsgate, Tomy, and Audi. My designs have won awards from well-known publications and organizations, such as Communcation Arts, and my coding has been used on many high-traffic corporate websites.
Skills
My core strengths are graphic design, HTML 4 & 5, CSS 2 & 3, JavaScript, Flash, and ActionScript. I love jQuery and Bootstrap and lately have been developing responsive websites. I'm an expert with Photoshop and Flash. Over the years, I've picked up the basics of many different programming languages and technologies, so I have a very good general understanding of most of the popular web technologies in use. I frequently code in PHP with MySQL, however for this full-time position I'd like to find something that deals with the front-end. Additionally, I have a great deal of experience organizing small teams of outside contractors to take a website from concept to completion. Because of my understanding of PHP and other languages, I can closely monitor the entire process to ensure everything is completed correctly and on time.
Other skills that I posses, but don't necessarily market myself as an expert of, are photography, copywriting, proofreading, SEO and print design.About
I'm a United States citizen and a native English speaker. I'm 31 years old, male, and am currently living in Trat, Thailand. If I find a good position I will relocate to your area. Something I like to address from the beginning is that I have a stutter. Sometimes it's not bad, but other times it's difficult for me to communicate. If a position requires a great deal of telephone conversations, public speaking, etc, then it would not be a good fit for me.
Portfolio / Contact
For my bio, resume, work examples, and contact information, please visit the link below. You can also send me a message on ThaiVisa.
http://www.pixeldigital.com/folio/Two recent responsive design projects that haven't been added to the portfolio yet can be seen at:
http://www.the10thvail.com/ and http://www.gamecreekvail.com/
For these two websites, I was responsible for the front-end coding and PHP/MySQL backend using a customized WordPress installation.
Thank you for your time,
Gavin

You do not have to show the Embassy anything.
You just have to swear on oath your income.
Yes you have to do it every year.
Wow, that's good news. It sounds so unlike Thailand to go off of just your word...

Take a nice bottle of whisky like Black label , and you'll be fine.
dont turn up with a bottle of Hong Tong, sang som, or even a bottle of loa cow.
Word will get around, and it will be the last party you are invited to
I don't hang out with those people. If someone doesn't invite me to a party because they think I'm "kii nieow" than that's great and saves me a lot of time. Based on the comments here I decided to bring a bottle of Red Label to the party. My friend was upset that I bought it. He told me it was too expensive and to take it back to the shop LOL. He kept giving it back to me, but finally he gave in and took it. He would only drink the Blend 285 he bought for the party and didn't want to open the Red Label. He wanted to save it. We ended up getting really drunk and drinking it later that night though........
He's a really good person.

Thanks for all the good replies. She does drink with my friend and I occasionally so I'm pretty sure she'll be drinking tonight. I'm not even sure where to buy flowers around here and I don't have a lot of money, so I think I'll just pick up a decent bottle of whiskey. Thanks again.

Ask your good friend what his wife would like.
His answer will 100% be "don't bring anything", which is why I'm asking here.

I'm going to my good friend's wife's birthday party later today. According to my friend we're going to drink more whiskey tonight than should be humanly possible. I want to bring something to the party, but even though we'll be drinking whiskey it seems like bringing a bottle of whiskey wouldn't be appropriate. Also I know in Thailand it's typically the responsibility of the birthday person to supply drinks and food for their guests. So, what should I bring? Should I bring whiskey or some type of gift? Or nothing?

Rule number 1 to live here as a foreigner. Always stay out of Thai conflicts especially in the bar scene. Last week a Thai was beating up his wife in front of a fuel station Bang Na. Your instinct says to give help. Later other Thais guys hit him with a brick on his scull.
Unfortunately this is true, especially if you're somewhere without many foreigners. I was at a local Thai nightclub and a guy was smacking around some girl out front. There were probably around 30 Thai people out front who couldn't be bothered by this and almost seemed bored, just slouching over casually watching. A few of them were even off-duty police officers. It wasn't easy to watch but intervening would have been a mistake. I think the only way you'll get "hit with a brick on your scull" is if the girl's family are there or hear about it and come around.

Here's the flooding in my Chiang Mai neighborhood yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cg13fNEj_7w&feature=youtu.be
That's a lot of water obviously, but it's not very serious flooding. In Chanthaburi, Trat, etc. many places have a meter and a half of water. We've been bombarded by intense downpours day after day.

If you're worried about not getting another one, wherever you go to get a new visa use an agent instead of going yourself. You will pay more but there's a much better chance of not running into any problems. At the consulate it's you vs. the government official. If you use an agent it's a local vs. local and them denying you means no money for the local agent. I haven't seen this confirmed, but I've been on tourist visas for a year now without issues and I use an agent every time.

Yeah, the camera photo at the top of this article is the actual camera. After the bag was returned they took one of the cameras to a professional studio and had it shot along with post-production, just for this article...
How do people not realize that's just an illustration for the article? A full bag of professional camera gear can easily top 1 million baht.

Yeah the Thai business laws lag way behind technology. The purpose of requiring someone to have a company and to be required to hire thai nationals is to protect the Thais so there aren't any foreign-only businesses, taking all the possible work away from Thais. I can see the logic in that, but if someone is working remotely, taking nothing from Thailand and only pumping money into the economy, obviously there isn't a problem. Unfortunately the law doesn't reflect that. Perhaps if the law does change, if will be some sort of registration fee and tax on remote/Internet workers in exchange for a visa, but without land ownership, etc. Don't think that would happen though.

As far as I know Thai SIM cards are a different size then American SIM cards. Plus I just don't know if her phone will work with a Thai SIM card. It's an old Motorola Razr (the thin flip phone, not the new ones). Does anyone know if those should work in Thailand?
My Motorola Razr worked perfectly well in Thailand until I knocked a glass of water over it.
Recently at the airport I could not get a signal on either my 12Call or True sim cards. Pretty annoying as I had a 4 hour wait between flights and wanted to use the phone.
I'd tell mum to bring her phone and try a sim card she can buy from a row of booths on the ground floor against the outside wall.
Thanks for the specific information

I bought an under computer fan for my MacBook. It really didn't make a difference. Maybe a couple degrees. The MacBooks get hot on the top mainly, so that's probably why.
-
Do you guys know if the ice and fan method generates much humidity? I wouldn't think so, but who knows.
-
Gavin, do the decent thing and go and meet your mum off the flight at Swampie..... and buy her a phone too.
She has a connecting flight to my province. There's no need.
-
Ok, does anybody happen to know if the old Motorola Razr V3 phone from America will work in Thailand?
-
To the best of my knowledge, there are only two sizes of SIM cards.
The mini-SIM as used by Apple, and the full sized as used by pretty much everyone else.
I have bought phones in the USA and the Thai SIMs fit them just fine. Just make sure what you buy will work in Asia/Thailand.
Thanks. I didn't realize that.

In the tax free area they do sell phones btw, I forgot to mention that expecting you will be at the other side. Why not simply inserting a Thai simcard inher American phone ? Sent from my ME371MG using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I'm sorry but I don't understand these two sentences together.
Are you simply saying 'Why not simply insert a Thai simcard in her American phone?
What's the mularky on the end all about... letting us know that you use a ME371MG.....whatever that is?
uptheos, that line about which phone he's using is actually automatically added by the Thai Visa mobile app. Kinda stupid that they'd add that, in my opinion. There's probably a setting to remove it. Not sure though.

Far ad I know at Swampie no place where they sell pnones, sims you can get at the magazine shop near the exit. In the province there are lots of phone shops. In Thai they don't sell fake phones, just beware with second hand ones because Thais absolutely don't care and let phones fall out of there hands en into water. Most used ones have issues, some are new outside but old inside as covers has been changed.
Thanks rubberduck, maybe then it will be best for her to get once in America.

If she's just visiting you go into Tesco or somewhere....anywhere really and pick up a new Samsung or Nokia for 600 Baht. Buy a 12Call Sim and away you go,
The main reason for the phone is so she can call me when she's at the airport and once she gets into my town so I know when to come pick her up. Once she's with me it's not as big of a deal.
-
My mom decided to take a trip out here to visit me and have some R&R. I'd like her to buy a cheapo Nokia (simply meaning an old, durable phone) in Bangkok before flying to my province. She'll have an 8 hour layover at Suvarnabhumi. Are there phone shops inside the airport where she can buy a cheap phone and SIM card? How cheap can she expect the phones to be?
Edit: I should add I want her to buy the phone in Bangkok because if she buys it in the US she may run into problems with SIM card size, the phone not being an international phone, etc. Plus it'll give her something to do at the airport.

Actually 'return home' is กลับบ้าน, that is glab bahn. Different word - กลับ vs กับ
And now it all makes sense
Thanks man.

"gap" can be translated as "with", like "maa gap puuan" if someone asks me who I came with. However, I hear people saying "gap baan" sometimes when they're alone and going home. How does that statement work, and is there another definition for "gap" that my dictionary isn't revealing to me? Thanks

So when you went on the first couple dates with this girl you didn't catch on that she wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed? You're her boyfriend for god sake. Sounds like your interview process is what's letting these dimwits through.
