  1. It's about time us Westerners fight back against these medieval minded people, the sad fact is that we are spoiled think all will go away. All around the world Muslims are creating problems.... and Why ? Because we choose not to be like them, choose not to pray 5 times per day, choose to live in peace, choose to accept modern times......... fuc_king freaks they are annoyed.gifannoyed.gif

Well why doesn't the US stop intruding and interfering in the Islamic States - then maybe you will get your wish

Are you a muslim too ? Because from most of your posts i can see how much hate you have in your heart for the americans. I understand you have your own opinion but what's it with u and the U.S.

No I do not practice the Islamic faith. I have no hate towards the US - but so many posts are completely one sided. US govt and many citizens wish the Islamic states to transition to a democratic model so why not cease actions that antagonise the extremists. Also many unrealistic expectations, as I said in a previous post quoted below:

The US Constitution was signed into being in 1787. It wasn't until about 170 years later that US citizens gained equal treatment for all from a more tolerant society. Still are Americans who are not tolerant (e.g. right wing extremists). Most Islamic states have been ruled by dictatorships for 30/40 years and before that by colonial rulers, totalitarian Emperors, monarchy etc. Last year some dictatorships were overthrown during Arab Spring last year with the encouragement of western countries.

Tell me why you expect the Muslim moderates in the Arab Spring states to be able to take control and establish their influence for transformation to a more tolerate attitude in a matter of months. Other than this you well know that moderates in Islamic countries who express their opinions are more often than not murdered by the extremists. The murdered were very brave people, would you stand up in the near certainty you would be killed?

Some of what ur saying sounds a bit one sided as well. Yes I do believe the US govt. should pull out of the middle east but a lot of Muslims don't. You think we should stop doing things to "antagonise" extreamists. In order to do that we would have to stop breathing. They wish death on us period. No matter what we do they will find another reason to be pissed off at the western world.

  2. I see only negative storys here all the time, I live in Chiang Mai and I see a lot of work has be done on the Ping river,

and I guess in other places also hard work was done, do you ppl ever go out to see what s been done and what not

and if you dont like what happen here, go back if its better in your own country

I love it here and I love the lay back mentality, thats why I am here

Still on your honeymoon huh? If you still haven't seen the incompetence that takes place here it shouldn't take too long with a little bit of observation and intelligence. My driveway is full of water and very little if anything useful has been done in this area. Should I be positive about this. My wife and I pay taxes. Should I be smile and be happy that 120 baht went to line corupt pockets. That "lay back mentality" is nice in a lot of ways and destroys in many others. If you have a personal emergency I hope that "lay back mentality" can get something done for you. Does this mean I should go back to my own country. No. I still like many things about it and will be staying for a while.

  3. For those political posters here on TV. You can slam this and the last goverments all you want. The coruption in ths country is, has been and will be the same with any government in power for a long time to come. I don't see any red /yellow shirt multi colored shirt supporters out cleaning the existing street drains and other drainage systems. So what are you doing to improve the situation? That's right. Sitting around writing a bunch of pointless biased rants.

  4. The problem is NOT heavy rain IN Bangkok, but heavy rain upstream........North and North East. This will cause the rivers to swell and the water-reservoir to fill up to unhealthy levels.

Heave rain in BKK is enough to cause big problems. Heavy rain upstream cause more problems. They can't even get water to drain off streets properly how are they gonna solve this problem??? Answer. They aren't.

  5. This is still a third world country folks. Call it developing if makes u feel better. The fact is they could develop a lot quicker if they would take advice/help from many countrie that have tried to give it. They don't want it to save losing face. So in their own words "Som Nam Na." It's just a shame that many of us that come from the countries that tried to help them live here and have to deal with it.

    • This is Thailand, the land where everything is bigger, better, faster, stronger, louder.
Until it is really tested, then it tends to be much quieter.
      Thad,
has any other government EVER tested IN ANY practical fashion the flood water scenario?
Not sure this question is really relevant. Mind you being Dutch I cannot really remember the Dutch government ever needed to do these type of practise tests ermm.gif
Yeah, you just got it right the first time. Without any tests and experiments you must be the superior race. clap2.gif Well done.

BTW with a quick search on this facinating thing called the internet, you can find one or two tests that have been done.

  7. good God man.

Well T-Bird67 we have some things in common ive been here 5 years and im from America as well and I lean to the right, politically. I think that is about where our commonality ends.

I explained "tosser" to you as it was explained to me when I first arrived here and befriended people from different areas of the world and subsequently heard some of the many different forms of English that is spoken around the world with its different terms, sayings, etc. So unless you have lived under a rock for the past five years, only crawling out for AMCHAM events, I assume you too have heard this term and thus were asking for its definition in sarcasm.

You are not helping our arrogant stereotype much by asserting that everyone speaks English like we do, especially on a forum that is mostly non-American. That claim would be impossible to prove as people around the world are constantly learning English in different ways from different teachers. Do I really have to explain this to you?

Funny that you fault the UK's immigration policy for THE SAME POLICY OUR COUNTRY HAS AND WAS FOUNDED ON. Do you think the population explosion on the East Coast from 1880-1920 was due to an influx of first world, wealthy individuals? What about the Asian/Mexican population explosion of the 20th century in California? All rich first world Anglo Christians?

Your arguments about blaming society vs personal responsibility have been your only relevant posts here and I actually agree with some of what you said there. I urge you to stick to that topic as your tangents onto other matters have only served to reinforce the stereotypes that I and other Americans have worked to reverse.

dam_n kblaze u beat me too it.

  8. Are all Thais of the human species? Sometimes I'm not sure.

It happens the world over TB67. Nothing new in it. You can say this about youth gangs in any country in the world. I would say myself they are less of a problem in Thailand than many other areas of the world.

If the "rest of the world" you are referring to is third world despotic hellholes than I would agree.

You sure do live up to the stereotypical view that us "yanks" are labeled with. You been to a big city ghetto or small city ghetto in the past 20 years? Get a grip.

  9. I was interested in the fact that they take pride in their respective schools. This leads me to think the schools may also be able to play more of a role (if they aren't already doing so). First, students who use violence should be expelled. Of course this should be evaluated on a case by case basis, with appropriate warnings where needed. But being ostracized from the school might undermine their need for group/pack bonding.

If this is about pride in one's school, and students have a surplus of physical energy, can't this be channeled into sport competitions and, for the brainier and less physically volatile, other sorts of competitions (I can't think of anything other than spelling Bs and speech competitions at the moment)? Oh, perhaps some multi-school activities such as art exhibitions? For the violent ones, how about kick-boxing matches? Just have an onsite kick-boxing coach (who's tough enough), and the kid's that think they are bad-asses get recruited onto the kickboxing team. Then there are competitions between schools. OK, maybe that's not a good idea, because it could too easily get turned into physical punishment. But a completely voluntary kick-boxing team with competitions between schools might be a good idea (anyone has a fight outside of the ring is penalized from fighting in the ring for a period of time).

I'm guessing the school is probably just a convenient way of the kids to self-segment themselves into various competing gangs. So, there needs to be a more meaningful way for them to gain respect among their peers.

The boot camp seems like a pretty good idea to teach students some no bullshit discipline, and force cooperation on them. At least the Thai govt. is taking some initiating in addressing the problem. I think they may do more to teach the students skills that will give them something of a future. If given a choice of doing something constructive that will get the respect of one's peers or whoever else AND help fortify one's future, I think kids will take that route rather than just do something nasty to look cool for a few minutes before accepting one's dim future as a subservient laborer.

I also agree with the people that said that 200 baht is NOT a penalty. Hell, those kids would probably pay 200 baht up front for the chance to stab another student in the head. The penalty should be some form of meaningful community service. I'm thinking something connected to a skill. Could be something like painting homes or landscaping. Just punishment won't work because it doesn't give kids something they can use to have a successful life.

You're one of a handfull that showed some thought in what u posted here. I've been living here for six years and reading the blogs here for about four. Many posts here are made with very little brain activity.
