A question on when one person buys a ticket for another person.  EVA air for example demands to see the credit card used to purchase the ticket when I board.  How does somebody in this kid's situation get a ticket that the airline will accept if it is bought by somebody else?

    Emirates have a similar rule.

However they did advise me that I could purchase the ticket with PayPal, which would allow travel from BKK.

  2. The Jomtien located movie I would like to see- is Insee Thong. (golden Eagle)

Filmed on Dongtan Beach in 1970.

Mega Thai Movie star- Mtr Chaibancha  was tragically killed on the last day of shooting, when he fell from a helicopter.

There is a memorial to him, opposite the  Amphoe Bang Lamung Government offices, at the north end of the inner road Jomtien.

I would quite  like to see the how Jomtien has changed over  the last 47 years.

I'm not aware of any new law. The existing Hotel Act prohibits the short-term letting of condos but it is rarely if ever applied.

You are quite right. It is the Hotel Law -2004 that applies.

It would seem that the authorities in Phuket, have warned  all condo projects that they will now  enforce this law.

This was published in the Phuket News-2016

The notice, issued to all 234 registered condo projects in Phuket – hence affecting all 26,071 legally registered condo units on the island – was signed and issued by by Phuket Land Office Acting Chief Wisith Chokchai on June 9.

    The notice read:

    To managers/developers of condominiums,

“Today, there is a lot of news about condominium developers/owners renting out rooms or buildings that they have ownership of to foreigners or tourists on a daily basis (daily rental) rate that generate income as if they were a hotel (under the Hotel Act 2004).

“This type of operation is causes a public nuisance for renters in the same complex and creates unsafe places for tourists, which may lead to loss of life and property. It is inacceptable to operate an illegal hotel. The penalty for this is up to one year in jail or a fine of up to B20,000, or both.”

Wonder how most of the 'residences' hotels in Pattaya operate? do they have separate juristic person between the hotel part and the condo part? in case where there are separate building that is probably clear cut, but many operate within same building with shared facilities, the hotel operator would hold a decent chunk of the votes in the juristic person meetings

Some time ago, I read about a new law being promulgated- that would prevent any condominiums being leased out for less than a month.

The article indicated that Hoteliers in Bangkok, had lobbied the T.A.T for a change in condominium regulations..

As one well conversant with condominium law, they have no right to do this and should be made to remove the door. A condominium and its common areas are the exclusive common property of all condo owners.

VT 8 in Jomtien, has a similar problem.

The lower floors are let out to short stay Chinese tourists .

View Talay provides dining facilities and a hotel style reception.

    Residents are not best pleased.

You have my sympathy. Is noise polluton widespread or just confined to particular areas?

View Talay 8 Marina Condo, has now become less desirable...

Owing to the very loud  late night outdoor cabaret,  at the adjacent De Varee Hotel.

Waves of 4 metre height = 2 m in amplitude - which is nothing in the tropics.

If this ship can't handle such conditions, perhaps it will be better suited along the Bangkok river or canals.

Although I have to admit that the ferry is performing better than the aircraft carrier, which has not weighed anchor for years.

To be fair to them , a 2m wave height restriction sounds about right.

My local high speed ferry in the UK-  weighs 6000 tons, carries 880 passengers and 245 cars- currently has a 2.5m wave height restriction.

I've wondered about that for a long time. The courts issue orders and the owners of the buildings don't do anything. I know Thailand has some serious contempt of court law -- that's why newspapers almost never report on a case that is before the courts. I don't understand why private property owners can simply ignore the orders of the court. There was a department store in Bangkok that illegally modified its structure from the approved plans to add four stories. The BMA took them to court many times over a period of about twenty years and every time the court found the owner at fault and ordered him to remove the top four stories. He never did anything, was never fined, never charged with anything other than improperly modifying the building. Finally the damned thing collapsed, I think with loss of life. Still don't know if the owner has any liability (or the architect or operating engineer).

I met a chap once , who supplies steel for Thai building contracts.

He told me that he always supplies stronger steel than requested, knowing Thai developer's propensity to add a few floors to the original proposed design..

  9. I've left my car in a hotel carpark, in Nong Khai, whilst doing a visa run to Vientiane without any problem or charge.

We usually stay at the Pantawee Hotel . 1049 Soi Haisoke . Nongkhai www.pantawee.com 042 460850

They have a guarded car park, where you can leave your vehicle during your visa run.

The long serving reception staff, are pretty clued up on all things related to visas.

  10. Coach loads of school children arriving here daily in Jomtien.

They are disgorged into the new safe bathing areas by their teachers, and left to splash about for a few hours.

What an ideal opportunity to employ some swimming instructors to get them started.

I would suspect their teachers cannot swim, and much prefer to stay in the shade and sample the local seafood

  11. U-tapao. Air Asia issued a press release this week, in conjunction with their current and proposed routes to Kuala lumphur- Udon Thani, Macao and Singapore.

They say they offer shuttle buses to Pattaya and Rayong, and will in future offer ferry connections to popular resorts.

  12. The Bangkok Airways defective overwing exit, that Kim Samui reported, is indeed worrying.

I think Bangkok Airways operate an Airbus 319 on the Singapore route, with single overwing exits.- Total 6 exits

Other airlines such as Easyjet operate their 319's with double overwing exits.- Total 8 exits.

I would hazard a guess, that this is a "No Go" defect?

Any T.V. aviators like to comment?

  13. I have read a previous post, where the prospective Kan Air travellers, were transferred to Don Muang for onward travel.

It looks like Kan Air will have to up their game, when Thai Air Asia (TAA) create a hub at U-tapao later this year.

Air Asia, commence flying to K.L. on July the 16th from U-tapao.
