I agree with the OP, In the past 15 years I've used both the marriage and retirement visa extension route, this year I did marriage at it was the most difficult to date.  My 4x6 photos (on photo paper) were too small, needed to be a full A-4 sheet for each, this year I needed to provide a witness even though the amphur paperwork says we're still married, the IO made a snide remark to my wife in Thai because a few of my papers weren't stacked identical to each other.  IO even went on to say in Thai to my wife "next year she won't be so nice".  They can try and make it difficult but so long as I meet all the requirements they can't deny my application.

But next year I will go the retirement visa route, less hoops to jump through and less made up drama from the IO.

Strange about them wanting a full A4 sheet for each photo. We took them like that as we did the previous year but this time they said no there have to be two photos on each A4 !

  2. I arrived on 25th December and was given a pink slip at Suvarnabhumi when they checked my documents. The pink slip is to give to the  hospital that does the second PCR test so you don't have to pay for it. I did my first PCR test on arrival at the Suvarnabhumi Novotel. I paid extra for an "express" service and got the negative test result after one hour and then checked out and drove home. I downloaded the Mor Chana app on arrival and scanned the Thailand Pass QR code. It showed my details in amber as "medium risk". Six days later I went to Hua Hin hospital for the second PCR test and got a printed copy of the negative  result the next day. Then I forgot about it.

When I looked at my Mor Chana app last night at the notifications I had three messages dated 9th, 10th & 11th Jan saying to upload the second test result on the link they provided. I did so and 10 minutes later the app showed my details in green and "very low risk" So the system does seem to work or perhaps I was lucky.

  3. I applied two days ago, received almost instant emailed registration receipt but no reference number.

Just applied again and was given a reference number immediately. Checked status and it showed "reviewing"

Let's hope they send a QR code soon. Apparently some lucky guys received their QR codes almost immediately !

Now as an airline employee I have to give a little support for those 'angry old dragons'

As much as a little eye candy for old men is appreciated, you have to understand what a flight attendants role is.

Yes they are doling out the food and booze. But if push comes to push comes to shove you want flight attendants who help you survive a medical emergency, or worse still some aircraft event.

Now I've flown millions of miles on a helluva lot of airlines, and with TG several other SE Asian airlines, I'm not sure in that 'push comes to shove' moment they would be a lot of use.

So, he/she may not be all that pretty, but think about their training and what you trust them to do for you in some crisis.

    Then make your choice

I was an airline pilot for 44 years. My experience with cabin crew with the airlines I flew for, including two Thai airlines, was that, although they were proficient at putting on make up, whenever there was any abnormal situation or emergency they were totally useless and couldn't remember their procedures.

  5. When I was eight years old I asked my mother where I came from. My mother quickly left the room saying that she had to take a pan off the stove. I then asked my father. He looked embarrassed, hesitated and then told me they found me in the garden under a flower. I spent the rest of that day looking around the garden. I subsequently learned about sex by listening to older children at primary school ! Even later on when I was at Grammar school the Biology lessons only discussed how plants reproduce !

All intending travellers should note that when coming from one of the 46 listed countries there is a provision that they must have resided in that country for at least the previous 21 days.

So any expat who needs to travel outside of Thailand for a shorter period will not be allowed to return.

At least that is how I read it.

It says on the TAT release that foreign residents of Thailand can travel from here to one of the countries and back again (without applying the 21 day rule)

One could rightly say that any foreigner who came to the Kingdom and hooked up with a Thai woman (or man) came here for sex.  Only those who came with a partner from their home country -- and never, ever got any action on the side from a local -- are exempt from that label.  Any foreigner with a Thai partner who says they didn't come here for sex is a liar and/or in denial.  The holier than thou attitude displayed by some folks around here is hypocritical at best.

Maybe they should create a new visa category: sexpat-in-training, minimum investment one baht gold chain, a pickup truck, and a Chang singlet  ????

That is a false generalization. I met my Thai wife on the internet before I visited Thailand. She is an educated woman and has never been to a bar in her life.

Terms of entry should make the insurance situation clear.  when returning from UK in Jan 2021 a condition of CoE was that I had insurance for Covid for $100,000.

Government web-site for CoE should make this clear.  When I applied it was 'No proof of insurance policy, no CoE'

My advice; unless you really have to leave Thailand, do not.  It is not worth the hassle and expense of ASQ to get back into the country.

Your advice is valid, probably best to delay my trip until the quarantine rules are relaxed and I get vaccinated here (whenever that may be as I would only have the Pfizer)

Covid 19 insurance is required for entry to the country. It will need to valid for the length of stay you get when you enter the country which in your case will be when your extension and re-entry permit expires.

You can purchase it online here. https://www.tipinsure.com/CovidRegional/product_detail

Understood thanks, do I also need a separate health insurance policy aswell as the covid insurance ?

You will need to get a Certificate of Entry (COE) from the appropriate Thai embassy (which I think is in Abu Dhabi). For this, you will need flight and ASQ bookings, as well as Covid insurance. Prior to departure from the UAE, you will also need a negative Covid test taken no more than 72 hours before departure.

Do I need covid insurance ? I thought if married to a Thai it is not a requirement. I am in Thailand now without insurance but I need to get a policy to come back ?
