  1. I only provided proof of my son's adress in Thailand (Tabien baan details) and the Liverpool overseas team requested proof of my adress in the UK...this ended up delaying my son's passport details by a couple of months ( took 6 months in the end)! Doesn't do any harm to submit some family photo's as part of the application too.. Liverpool requested these off me to..

After submitting our son's passport application i returned to the UK....I was then required to send the additional information to my wife in Khon Kaen who had to make a 2 day trip( with our child) to submit the information..

    Cheers...

A friend of mine also living by co incidence in Khon Kaen had an easy ride and the passport was dealt with by a team in Hong Kong. They were sharp enough to discover he had lied on a passport renewal 25 years ago where he had lopped a couple of years of his age . However the passport was completed with no hassle.

I suspect you have complicated the issue by being in the UK for the application.

  2. Here in the UK where the Westminster system originated we need the Thai system now.

A battery of lawyers inside and outside Parliament waiting to pounce on people who oppose the premier.

Boris Johnson could be locked up along with most newspaper editors and vendors.

Mystic Meg could sort out our weather and economic problems while Cameron could announce on tv every day

that England was the land of milk and honey.

And the Labour party was now being run by Thaksin,

  3. There is an express train that leaves from the KL (Kuala Lumpur) airport every 30 minutes (or less during peak hours). The train costs at least one-third the cost of the taxi fare, the ride is smooth, the coaches clean and appear new. No hassles and no rude drivers.

Sometimes people should consider the excellent public transportation that is available and not always insist upon using cars.

I have used that quite a few times in to KL Sentral and then made the short walk to the skytrain.

Sadly Bangkok is not so integrated.

  4. "The programme aims to build up motivation through new styles of teaching. The students can enjoy classes while learning. "

Now that really would be something, students enjoying classes! Perhaps the new-style of learning actually involves the students, allowing them to participate and actually ask questions!

I'm sure the average Thai ' English ' teacher involved with he programme will ensure their authority in class isn't usurped in any way and that there's no lasting ' adverse ' ideas passed on by the native speakers.

For their part the graduates will have to ' trust ' their input is faithfully translated which for several reasons is unlikely.

And sadly the Thai 'English' teachers are unable to speak English themselves.

I have come across so called Thai Phd English teachers unable to have a conversation with me so how can they supervise students and teachers?

  5. If they leave Thailand on their British passports then they will have problems with Thai immigration due to there not being any entry stamps in their British passports.

Checking in with the airline using their British passports should not present a problem; unless Japan requires British passport holders to have a visa; which I don't know. If so, then they would need to get the appropriate visas in their British passports or the airline will refuse to carry them.

Do Thais need a visa for Japan? Again, I don't know.

Can't they renew their Thai passports before the trip?

    Sotonfarang...you have no problem.

British passport holders do not need a visa for Japan assuing normal tourist and sightseeing or visiting friends.

    see

    http://www.uk.emb-japan.go.jp/en/visa/temporary.html

    "

UK and Irish passport holders are NOT required to obtain a visa if they wish to enter Japan for the purpose of journey described above for a period of 6 months or less. (Note 1, 2)"

As our little friend Kamornwit has discovered certain items in the luggage will cause problems.

Your situation is simple. Check in at Bangkok using UK passports with airline. Clear immigration with your wife on her Thai passport and then she will show her UK passport prior to boarding.

There is no problem having two passports and dual nationality. Immigration officers see this every day and it is routine.

The regular posts I read here make me smile. There is no need to hide passports!

With four months left on your family Thai passports I cannot see a problem.

You can all return to Thailand on either UK or Thai passports.

    Bon Voyage

  6. https://www.gov.uk/tier-2-general/eligibility

According to this, a salary of 20,800 £ pa should do (less for an unregistered nurse)

That is the minimum income required to get a Tier 2 visa in the first place (unless the occupation is one of those listed where a lower salary is acceptable).

If the holder wants to extend it beyond 6 years then they need an income over £35,000 p.a. unless exempt, which nurses currently are not.

Why are limits set higher for immigrants without an official sponsorship?

The simple answer is; ask the government. But which category are you talking about? All Tier 2 applicants need a sponsor.
The answer to that question is simple.

If we want nurses we should train them not import them. The higher limit is to keep key people like doctors.

The tax credit system ,engineered by Blair and Brown, has cost the country a fortune while keeping wages low.

Big companies such as McDonalds or Amazon exploit low paid workers and tax manipulation.

Tier 2 is not a back door for cheap labour.

  7. Actually I think it was Natalie Bennett (Green Party) who mentioned the scandal of Brits being unable to bring their spouses to settle in the UK because of the financial requirements. As I recall she was the only participant in the debates to mention this (she did it twice in 2 live TV debates) although I don't recall her giving a figure of 19000 Brits. As far as I'm aware none of the participants mentioned it and no one picked up on Natalie's comments.

It was because she was the only one to talk about this I actually voted for her party.

She is an Aussie with a weird agenda. Perhaps you should ask her why it is so hard for Brits to enter the land of her birth.

I would not trust her figures and the electorate agreed. Apart from the wealthy millionaire left wing voters in Brighton no one has elected a Green MP.

  8. 19,000 Brits with family's stuck abroad, due to the £18,600 requirement.

Where did you get that figure from?

Any figure must, of course, be an estimate.

But: Revealed: The financial cost of Theresa May's immigration policy

Home Office estimates suggested the policy would reduce family visas by 17,800 a year.

Recent figures suggest that guess was, if anything, an underestimate. There has been a 58% drop in overall applications, including an 83.6% drop in the number of visas issued to male partners of a British spouse.

The above article is from July 2013; whether the figure has increased or decreased since is open to debate.

However, this topic is about Tier 2 visas, not family settlement.

So, family members of Brits from Tier 2 countries are welcome to settle free?

Regardless of their religion or colour of skin?

Tier 2 is a temporary visa allowing a key worker to enter the UK on a time limited visa. EG a doctor.

Settlement is not allowed on this visa.

  9. I fail to see the point in H (iii). There is no requirement for planning permission if purely using the home as a business address otherwise anybody who took work home with them would be in breach of planning regs.

I hope this isn't a new rejection criteria to catch out all self employed people.

    Not at all.

Many small limited companies use their accountants office as a base.

A mobile mechanic does not need premises as he is mobile and his workshop is in his van.

The problem here is the OP did not think about his application when he filed a self assessment.

Had he spent a few hundred on an accountant he would not be facing the problems he has now.

And of course this is why decent visa agents are often a better bet than doing it yourself.

  10. This now happens both ways.

Just take a look at this guy and tell me why he should not be ejected from Australia....

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-07-02/robert-bertie-kidd-fights-plan-to-deport-him-to-the-uk/6589862

One of Australia's oldest and most notorious criminals, 81-year-old Robert "Bertie" Kidd has vowed to fight a plan to deport him back to his native United Kingdom when he is released from prison next month.

In a move his family describe as "inhumane", the Australian Government has told Kidd he will be sent back to England, the country he left in 1948, when he was just 14 years old.

Kidd's former barrister and friend, Brian Bourke, describes him as "one of the most complete criminals" the country has ever produced.

A safe blower, armed robber, burglar, horse doper and standover man, Kidd was regarded as criminal royalty from the 1960s through to his jailing for a series of home invasions in the early 1990s.

  11. It can only be collected where submitted as far as i understand which is bangkok. Section 2 is about my son who has never been to the uk so it wouldnt make sense to put a uk address, but as far as ive read because im applying on behalf of him as hes a child i need to also provide proof i live at the address who im submitting the application on behalf of him which i dont understand how i can do....

The easist way of providing proof of address in Thailand is a utility bill such as phone, water, internet or electricity.

Just go to the utility office and put them in your name. Needed as well for opening an international offshore banking account.

Just to correct myself I understand passports are no longer posted EMS in Thailand.

  12. Just tell the truth.

Give your UK address plus Thai address.

No need for tabian bans as we dont use this system in the UK.

You spend time in the UK as I understand it and time in Thailand with your child.

Without knowing your circumstances I assume you work in the UK to fund your Thai family.

Where do you want the passport posted to?

  13. Ok so i will not include it because at the time of me completing the application form for a uk passport my son wouldnt have had a thai passport but at the time of me submitting it, he would, just hope the HMPO cant find out he does have a thai passport or will once i get to bangkok

A pending Thai passport has no influence or bearing on his UK passport application.

The two nations do not cross reference.

Try to keep things simple and separate the two applications in your mindset.

    Good luck.
