  1. Update: Thanks all for the advice - arrived at 9:30, asked one of the farang assistants there and he assured me it was just a matter of paying 1,500 baht for the 3 day overstay and the 30 day extension (another 1,900 baht) was granted from today's date - no concession given due to the office not being open on Saturday/Sunday. Finished by 11:00..

Note for next visit: go to get photo taken BEFORE any photocopying you need done, and get your photocopying done while waiting to get the developed photos - the lineup for photocopying looks longer but moves pretty fast.. there was quite a delay between getting the picture snapped and actually getting the developed photos, could have saved a bit of time there.

More important note: get 30 day extension BEFORE permission to stay date is gone by... :)

  2. hmmm... i'm not so confortable with the conflicting advice being given here... logic would tell me that if i'm illegal, it shouldn't matter whether im at the airport or immigration office regarding the consequences.. but then again, TIT... logic would also tell me that i'm a bit more comfortable with listening to someone who has been around long enough to have made 23,839 posts compared to someone with only 11... it does suggest the possibility of him having more experience and knowledge than others.. however any other comments supporting either of the suggested resolutions would be appreciated... the visit to the Immigration office in the morning would certainly be my preference

  3. There are a couple of nudist resorts in the Pattaya area which can be found on the naturist thailand website listed above. AFAIK, they are open to all, not gay-only. I'm curious to hear from other gay nudists whether it's important for them that a nudist resort be gay-only or whether as in my case, I would be quite comfortable at any nudist resort that is welcoming to all.

  4. OK, I (my Business Consultant - BC) was able to get a 14 day extension to my WP expiry date in order to get the hotel license but that runs out on Monday and the tessabaan has just informed me they won't do the inspection until next week sometime then it can take another week or 2 to get the actual document so my WP will expire on Monday. My visa expires on April 21, when I am leaving the country anyways to go back to Canada for 6 months, so if I understand you correctly, my visa is still good until that time? I will then have to start the whole WP process over again when I come back later this year.. all due to ths very shoddy work my BC did (or dodn't do) in getting things in place for my WP application. I will have to come here again on a tourist visa, take a run to KL to get the non-imm B visa and do the WP application all over again... I'm not pleased at all, to put it mildly.. (Khun Joy, are you listening????)

Interesting about your side note.. this was a new building 1 year ago, we were delayed in opening at that time due to waiting for the same license.. Come to think about it, I think we had to cough up 1-2,000 baht incentive to encourage the tessabaan (through our BC) to move along the inspection/approval process a little faster than normal.. Obviously your accountant is much more capable of doing the necessary things in regard to your licenses than my BC.. I would be happy to know who your accountant is, if you wouldn't mind sending me in a private message.

When you’re WP is expired you are not allowed to work any more and your NON-O Business visa is also not valid any more and has to be cancelled.

Officially you have to go to the labor department in Phuket Town to hand over your WP after which you get a paper which mentions this, then you go to the immigration office to cancel your NON-O business visa and you can apply for a 7 days extension so you are able to get everything organized to leave the country.

This procedure is applicable for people who are on 1 year Business visa extension.

As you are on a 3 months B visa ( issued outside the country ) you can skip the immigration part and leave the country after your 3 months without problem, and get another visa which suits you.

Or you get the hotel license organized on time so don’t have to do this exercise. :whistling:

    On a side note,

It is only a little strange for me to hear that you are waiting for a inspection for your guesthouse!

I have two hotels in Patong with all the licenses and we had never an inspection for the hotel license.

But my licenses are done via my accountant and maybe this helps for me. :)

  5. Last week I was issued a work permit for my guesthouse business here in Phuket, and I am curently in Thailand on a 3 month non-immigrant B visa which expires April 21, 2011. I assumed the work permit would be issued with the same expiry date as the visa, however when I opened it up and saw an expiry date of March 14 and asked about it, I was told that my hotel license was about to expire on that date and until it is renewed, I can not renew the expiry date of the work permit. The paperwork to renew the hotel license has been initiated but I'm now waiting for the tessabahn to come and do the inspection required before they will issue the new license but they sometimes take weeks to getting around to do their inspection.

Can someone please enlighten me on my status here, should I not get my work permit renewed before March 14?

  6. I'm in the process of setting up a travel/tour desk in my guesthouse and looking for some place that sells the acrylic brochure holders - something that will hold a total of about 60 brochures - combination of single and double width.

Also looking for some place that can design and make a display sign for the front of the travel counter, in particular one that could wrap around a curved counter.

    Any suggestions or recommendations?

  7. There's a fairly new hotel supplies shop on Chaofa West, close to Sentral Furniture. I haven't tried it but it may be worth a look. You'll see the sign easily.

Glad you are nearly full for December. I bet most hotels and guesthouses can't say the same.

I stopped in there today - it's called Aqua Hotel Supply - they have a website but not much info on it as it's still under construction - www.aquahotelsupply.com. Their brochure shows sheets up to 600 TC - I didn't price them but the 220 TC are 600 baht per. Makro has 180 TC for about 523 per and 250 TC striped for 650 (all king-size). There's also another hotel supply shop up the bypass road - about 3-4 kms up from Tesco on the west sidebut they were closed - will try calling them tomorrow or Monday.

  8. Where exactly is that shop? I'm looking for some towels and bed linens and looked around when at Supercheap last week but couldn't see where you were talking about.. I saw Peenang furniture.. do you know where it is in relation to that place? Re the comment above about the shop near Chalong, I bought large quantity of towels and bed comforters before... good quality and reasonable price but had a problem with them after finishing the deal... they delivered the towels no problem but when the delivery truck arrived with the comforters, there was a hefty delivery bill attached to them that had never been mentioned so i'm not too enthused about doing business with them again..

Opposite super cheap there's what used to be a small but now big shop where i bought the same stuff used by Laguna hotels, very nice white with a white stripe in the weave.

6 years and still going strong think it,s Egyptian.

  9. Is there any decent place in Phuket that has a reasonable selection of audio stereo components - i'm not looking for audio/visual surroundsound type systems which seem to he about 95% of what's offered for sale at places like PowerBuy, Big C, etc... looking to buy amp, preamp, receiver (2 channel variety) speakers, etc.

  10. I'm bringing an iPhone 3GS from Canada with me (purchased and currently locked into Rogers network) and wondering if it's possible to get it unlocked somewhere when I arrive. I made the mistake of upgrading the OS on the phone to 4.0.2, and from what I've since been reading - making it much more difficult, if not impossible to unlock now. Any suggestions?

  11. Nice new rooms available in good location at Amethyst Residence for 5-600 baht now until November 1... 4 minute walk to Jungceylon, 5 minutes to Bangla, 10-12 minutes to the beach. Free wi-fi, bar, lounge, breakfast available...

  12. Yup ^^^ things have changed somewhat since this thread was started. Withdrawing to a Thai account from PayPal works just fine (at least to Bangkok Bank).

You need a proper Thai credit card in order to fund though, don't seem to be able to fund directly from a bank account.

Thai credit card will work of course but most ex pats cant get a proper credit card so a B1st will work and also a Kasikorn web shopping card works fine

How would this work with a business account? Can a Thai Limited Company be issued a K-bank web shopping card? Similar to the original poster, I'm faced with having to cough up 200,000 THB to K-bank in order to be able to accept reservation deposits or payments thru Visa or MC. This is only when I don't actually have the customer's card in hand. I have a Paypal account which i was considering using, but now that I've read this thread, I can see that's not recommended, as the Paypal account has been set up in Canada, where I still live part of the year.
