  1. A tip you might find useful. When you purchase your wacker, get one with a 4 cycle engine. PTT still sells actual gasoline and gasahol. Do not put gasahol in these cheap models, they are selling everywhere. the alcohol eats up the rubber in the carburator and the replacement parts are nonexistant and/or very hard to come by. Mine lasted 1 tankful of fuel before it was filling the crankcase with raw gas......lol

  2. Conversation between customer and shop owner:

"I think there is a slight leak in this oxygen tank"

"I'll get to it after I smoke a cigarette"

    "<deleted>!!!..."

Explain why smoking near an oxygen source is danderous ?

Oxygen that comes in these bottles is pure oxygen. It is an oxidizer and will self ignite under the right conditions and will help other gasses and materials ignite easier than normal. Smoking a cigarette around a leaking cylinder is like playing with rocket fuel. The same occurs with hydrogen peroxide (pure).

  3. Hi,

I've tried it several times; a Fixed Deposit Account was refused; a savings account with a history of at least 3 months was accepted...

    What immigration office was that?

Most offices now accept them as long as they are liquid. There are some accounts that do not allow withdrawals until the term is finished these immigration will not accept.

I too had it refused. For me it was Samui.

His argument was "This for saving, not for living. How you live?"

I tried to reason but it was a waste of time. In the end you have to go with the interpretation of the Immigration Officer where you're applying.

As an added note, always try and use the same officer that you applied with first and let them get to know you, makes the whole process much easier.

  4. This happened just before the HD on my iMac shit the bed.

about 3-4000 baht for a new one fitted in a couple of hours in the Siracha Apply store @ central.

Did you get to keep your data? I've only got part of mine backed up and am more than concerned i'm going to lose the data on my hard drive.

This morning it won't even manage to boot itself up, just see the apple and the whirring circle trying to get itself booted. We have an apple shop in chiang mai, so i'm assuming i'll just take it there.

Would be useful to find out about your data.

Nope - lost data, i usually keep everything on an external drive anyway so did not really lose too much, a few photo's though!!

Sounds exactly what happened to mine, whirly thing and would not boot up, there is a short cut you can do on start up that helps, i forgot what it is but found it on youtube, it might work - never for me!!

The best thing you can get is a time machine and then you will not lose your data. You can choose your backup times and it is always done. Do you have the original boot disk with you? (software installer that comes with each mac) The boot disk can help you restart your Mac and get you to the disk utility here you can get the status of your HD.

  5. Read the news: The USA is spying on everyone everywhere... Friends, enemies, anyone....

As always these days, their 'excuse' is national security (of course, only their own...)

They are very good in the 'policy of fear' bah.gif

This exactly why Facebook is alive and well. This is also why they are pushing everyone, to get a facebook account, so they have free access to all your information. The Gov't and FB have been butt buddies since day one........lol

  6. I obtained a new US PP in BKK in 2008. I don't recall having to make an appointment; just went in to US Consulate visa section, filled out the application with new photos, turned it in along with the fee and in about 2 weeks I had my new PP. Don't know what the new procedure is now, or if there is one.

To do business with any US Embassy, you must now make an online appointment. They won't give you the time of day if you don't.

  7. I moved my household from Ancharage Ak to Udon Thani. The cost was a little over $17,000 USD. There is no cheap way of getting goods from the USA to Thailand. It averages out to about $4.75 per pound using a 20 foot conex box. The less you ship the more it costs (by weight). Most carriers have a minimum weight before they will ship too. Then there is Thai customs, which always bend the rules in their favor. My wife is Thai and was entitled to one shipment duty free.....Ha!, it still cost me 30,000 Baht to get my belongings released from customs!

  8. I would hazard a guess that your chicks were not eaten by cats, you have a good sized snake there somewhere. A chick is to big for a cat but not for a snake. I have a cat that just looks at them but have had chicks still disappear. Turned out a large cobra was having snacks and it got into the rabbit cage and ate them too. Its downfall was getting too greedy and eating more than one and couldn't get back out through the wire mesh. It was added to the stewpot like everything else. It was 7 feet long.

  9. I was told recently by an older Thai, that Thai's do not follow the law. It doesn't matter what we (farang), think, do or say. They will do whatever they want, when they want it, laws bedam--d. There is no one around to enforce said law, only the tea money mongers. They are slowly changing but I forsee no change in my lifetime.

  10. Could it be that the gun was a 3D printed gun?

That doesn't ring true to me because the OP says that the gun would have to be modified.

I think I could come up with a list of almost 20 different 9mm cartridges, but the "other" one I hear about most is the 9x18 "mak" or "Makarov" but that ammo is still readily available.

The common one is called various names such as 9mm Luger and 9mm Parabellum and 9mm NATO and so on.

Could have been a .38 Special or a .357 magnum or a .380 Auto. The bullet size is approximatly the same size in all these cartridges including all the various types of 9MM

  11. I tried DTAC about 2 years ago and they were dreadfully slow. Their plans have no leeway and if you do things that have large files, you may get them the first time but then they reduce your download and speed accordingly, for the remainder of the month. Be aware of their pricing and payment policies. Even though they give horrible service, they will hold you to any contract that you signed, MAKE SURE that all is explained to you before you sign the contract. Never again will I use this company for any reason.

  12. everybody with eyes and a brain *knows* it's widely available in pattaya (and SE-asia in general). the "new" thing involves poor folks having their kids do all kinds of sicko stuff on demand in front of a webcam in return for money (paid by western union, paypal, bitcoins and the likes). u don't wanna know what is going on in myanmar for example.

Or Laos or Cambodia. Happens there big time......

  13. Predictably, now that the new O/S is installed, the other APP updates and accompanying update notices are starting to flow to the Apple Store APP icon! I have PC'd for 30 years and am 1 year into my first MAC. The orderliness, already thought-through processes, and just overall user-friendliness make me want to kick myself for waiting so long to become a convert. wink.png

Mac's have always been this way, and are almost always virus free. I just ordered a new, top of the line Mac, my third. I would use nothing else.

After using Windoze for 20 years, I took a bite off the mac, two years ago. I have no idea what took me so long to change over. It's been two years of not one error, in software or hardware. I'm using a macbook pro 2011, the more robust one, with 8 gig ram. I create a lot of music and video, as well as lots of high end graphics manipulation, and it is always rock solid. That and never worrying about another virus is enough for me to stay where I'm at. My macbook works better now than when I first got it, what a lovely piece of technology it is.

My new one is a 4 core 4gig with 32gb of ram and three flops of fusion drive and 3 flops of HDD, just got confirmation from the maker in Singapore......lol

  14. ummm so the police are able to demand to see ( hack ? )the private messages made on FB... assuming that he didn't discuss sales on open forum...

FB the greatest tool in crime investigation, every time you log in you are effectively logged into the police dept...

And whoever in the gov't, that happens to be looking too. The Thai's just haven't made the connection yet and many more will be arrested before they realize what is happening......(NSA< DHS<CIA<FBI) Nothing is "private" on Facebook

  16. How about a 500 baht "exit" fee, to cover admin costs incurred checking whether you have any unpaid hospital bills?

This fee already exists. We paid it upon exiting the country at the airport. It is still collected as an extra tax on your plane fare. What they need to do it stop the theft of the monies paid by travelers here and use it, what it was meant for. The monies collected in a year exceeds multiple billions of baht, by their stats it comes to 37.5BNBT

  17. The biggest problem to the internet not working correctly comes directly from your provider and Thai internet in general. The general part is that most ther countries see Thai internet as having a very large amount of spam and other issues (malware, scams, ect) so when you try to connect from a Thai ISP, you will be rejected or other means, will be employed to stop your usage. Then there is the "official stance" where the gov't controls the net and will only allow what they want you to see or know. The list goes on and on. The net runs itself and the ones who allow us access are the reasons it doesn't work.
