If anyone knew the future they wouldn't need to work would they.

Soros got out of gold 4 weeks ago in a big way. So I guess the Thai's will blame him again same as when the baht went west in 1998.
Where did it say he did that? He had gotten out once before, but then got back in. Perhaps he is just trading the trend. However, Jim Rogers who used to work with Soros is still in gold, and only plans to buy more as it goes down. That's the smart thing to do.
If I was going to buy gold, I sure wouldn't buy it now. I would wait until it bottoms out and then buy it. All this mess is just a marketing ploy to help the rich get richer and the poor to be worse off, than they are now ........
  2. From my experience from using wood or bamboo, here, two years is about the limit before rotting or being eaten by termites.... w00t.gif

What about T bar or even galvanized metal post for longer term survival of the fence ?

No quality steel here in Thailand, it is very soft and will rust away very fast. I would suggest using hardwood posts for the fence, they will last longer than the barbed wire. The barbed wire might last 2 years, if your lucky!
  3. These power mad idiots always love to use the ban method instead of actually analysing the problem before wagging their tongue.

Bans don't work in Thailand. Look at the 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm 'ban'. Widely ignored because the police can't or won't enforce it. Of course just ignore the bad driving habits of far too many on the roads. Kids riding motorbikes often on the wrong side of the road. Helmets, licences, insurance - forget it.

Alcohol on its own is only part of the problem but taken with local driving habits it becomes lethal.

Laws with teeth & actually enforced sans tea money might work. But that would take legislators to tackle a problem without a large budget & a police force to actually do their job fairly. Not in my lifetime unfortunately.

Also they cannot enforce the laws when they are just as drunk as all the revelers are. Saw that many places, the village police here are inebriated 24/7 and are only out, for the tea money!
  4. Went to six parties over the period (the Mrs drives), did not see ONE cop, not ONE. coffee1.gif

I saw a few police men in my neighborhood but they were just as drunk as everyone else. They were nice enough to let some of the cats out of the bag but in general did nothing to lower things here.
  5. Hi Khman, Just a pointer. Buy a new phone from a reputable store. At least there you might get a clean phone. Buying a second hand one here opens you up to a host of problems, security being the main one. These guys here have the tech but not sure on the know how to change your phone and all you do into a reporting device that you give away all your info to. The Russians do exactly this and are infamous for cleaning out bank accounts and other financial matters. They get live phones and download all the info on them, steal the funds and then turn around the phones using their own parts and the information they receive. Hope this helps.....

  6. Your current phone needs to be a QUAD (4) Band Phone. Most phones sold in Thai are 3 band and will not work in the USA. Go to walmart and purchase one of their phones, that will give you what you need. They work similar to here, with the buy time scheme. It will save you lots of headaches. When you get done with the phone, you throw it away. Ps. The phone from walmart WILL NOT work in Thailand.

  7. You can sign up for Bulang banking and you have online access, but sms they don't have yet!? Funny how this bank operates. I have multiple accounts here and I have never had any issue with them even, before I retired here it was not a problem. I do watch my bank statements closely though. I'm surprised they wont allow you to set your limit but 5K is very small. My limit is 50K per day

PS, go to the office that you originally opened the account at. Maybe where you visit, they won't or can't help you but they won't tell you either......lol

  9. If Thailand has an earthquake of 5 or better, beware. The building practices here are quite crappy and most commercial as well as private buildings, WILL come down. There is nothing to prevent it in place from . I came frlm a place that 100 quakes per day, most like this little guy here but the bigger then number, the more damage done. A 6 will likely hurt Thailand badly, an 8 will erase it.......

  10. @Naam, do you have access to a clamp on amp meter? It will tell you why you keep blowing a fuse on one leg. I would suspect a very imbalanced panel for starts with the entire house load on one leg, again, the clamp on will tell you this. If you have 30 amps on L1 and 5 amps on L2and 3 amps on L3, your problem is solved. Balance the panel by moving wires connected to the L1 to the L3, as well as the L2 and get it to where the phases are drawing the same amount of current. Don't understand all this stuff in a panel though. What are you trying to accomplish? An OLD "Sparky"

  11. that is ridiculous , so we have to carry passport and work permit all the time ? everywhere ? this witches hunt is going nowhere.

As far as I know, officially, yes...

Those of us with work permits or other long stay visas should be entitled to a more practical form of credit-card sized identification, not too dissimilar to the Thai national ID. Yes, it might cost a few hundred baht, but it's certainly more practical than carrying ones passport everywhere.

Getting a Thai drivers licence is the best alternative at the moment. It is suffice in most circumstances.

I used to carry all that extra baggage around all the time, then I got a Thai drivers license, end of problem and it has been my best option. When the police saw that, that was the end of carrying all that important paper. Yellow book, is the next issue.

  12. I would suspect bad fuel. Thailand just changed from gasoline to gasahol and that was a mistake that many other countries tried and it didn't work as planned. Is your wave, hard to start on a cool morning? Has the problem occurred before the last 45 days? If so, it is your gasahol causing the problem. Mine has the same issues as yours does.......

  13. Where will you be moving to next? I would recommend going to a heart institute and setting up services with them, especially if you have your medical records with you. I too have had similar operations but mine went considerably deeper. I have found the institute at Khon Kaen to be very helpful. They are heart specific and should carry all the meds you need. Relatively inexpensive I might add. For example, a pacer download in the USA costs $4500. I get the same thing done at Khon Kaen, for 600 BHT. I take 6 meds and the monthly cost is about 1500 bht.

  14. Well I have had 3 different workers lay tile in my house, the original builder, Home Pro and a local worker, and none did the job correctly. They don't know how to put the tile down so that there is space for the grout. These goofs think you put a lot of cement down then push the tile into it and let the cement ooze up between the tiles then wipe the excess away. Well that is not how it is done, unless of course you like cement for grout. It also ends up causing voids as air pockets are formed when they lay the tile on the puddle of cement. You can see this in almost any building in Thailand where there are cracked tiles with missing corners.

So, 200 or 500 a sqm, it doesn't matter, I believe you will still get crap work. I tiled my kitchen myself and even the Thai wife can see the difference in workmanship.

I do not believe there are any reputable contractors in Thailand. I don't believe there are any schools in Thailand that teach the building trades. There is no professionalism in the quality of work done here, no pride in their work and they just don't give a damn. They are just following the money. The crew that was building my home just quit. The couldn't put the roof on right after 5 tries. The whole house can be screwed up in many ways but the roof needs to be done right

  15. Sounds like a good idea to me but what about the timber thieves that will undoubtably steal all they can carry, let alone the locals that cut down every tree, to sell for making charcoal and getting 20B. In my area all the trees have been cut (stolen) because of other crop failures. Are these politicians really thinking and going to act or just spouting words like everywhere else?

  16. I agree with Soutpeel, It is a great way of keeping in touch with friends. That is my only regret of deleting my profile, but looking back it isn't worth having the missus questioning every photo or comment that includes you or something you did...That and the cringe-worthy photos of what I just cooked her for tea!

You FB information is still there my friend. It is very difficult to remove an account from FB. Type in your old info, you will be brought up to date with your supposedly deleted account. It is there forever......
